WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: August 21, 2018By Cassidy| August 22, 2018 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results After defeating Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam with a major assist from a pair of brass knuckles, which were handed to him by his wife Maryse in the front row, SmackDown LIVE kicks off with The Miz & Maryse. The Miz says that “something happened” at SummerSlam, saying that he has a “family to think about” before mocking Daniel Bryan by announcing his “retirement” from facing Daniel Bryan. The Miz says that he has the “hardest punch” in the arena, saying that he did what he said he was going to do by defeating Daniel Bryan in front of his wife and newborn daughter. This leads to “The A-Lister” plugging his reality show before The Miz is interrupted by Daniel Bryan. Daniel has just one word for The Miz, making his way towards the ring while repeating the word “coward”. The Miz argues that the record books will show that he beat Daniel Bryan and Daniel will “never” have the chance to face him ever again. Daniel says that The Miz is a “façade” before saying that he is going to “expose” The Miz for what he really is and that is a “wannabe Hollywood star cosplaying as a professional wrestler”! Maryse then interrupts, telling Daniel to go back into retirement and saying that Daniel should just change his name to “Daniel Bella”. This brings out Daniel’s wife Brie Bella, who makes a beeline for the ring as Maryse makes a quick exit. However, Brie doesn’t shy away from taking her aggression out on The Miz, pummeling “The A-Lister” before Daniel takes The Miz out of the ring with a clothesline! With Daniel Bryan & Brie Bella standing tall in the ring, Daniel informs The Miz that he talked to SmackDown LIVE General Manager Paige and, at WWE Hell in a Cell next month, it will be Daniel & Brie facing The Miz & Maryse in a Mixed Tag Match! Daniel & Brie then lead a “Yes” chant as The Miz & Maryse are beside themselves at the announcement. After being repeatedly assaulted by Randy Orton in recent weeks, Jeff Hardy would get his shot at revenge as the opening match of the night would see “The Charismatic Enigma” squaring off with “The Viper” Randy Orton. During the match, the sadistic Randy Orton would once again torture Jeff Hardy by hooking the earlobe of “The Charismatic Enigma” with his finger and Jeff would respond with a blatant low blow to “The Viper”, ending the match in a disqualification. However, Jeff had revenge on his mind as Jeff would take Orton to the outside, sending Orton over the announce table. Orton would manage to get a couple of shots in but Jeff would not relent, sending Orton into the ring post before the action spills into the crowd and into the technical area. Jeff then grabs a steel chair, using it to punish “The Viper” with repeated chair strikes before laying Orton out on a table. The thrill-seeking Jeff Hardy then climbs some nearby anvil cases before “The Charismatic Enigma” takes flight with a Swanton Bomb, putting Orton through the table as both men crash to the concrete! Jeff then pulls himself out of the destruction with a smile on his face, having received a measure of payback against Randy Orton. One-half of The IIconics were in action on SmackDown LIVE as Peyton Royce, with Billie Kay in her corner, would go one-on-one with Naomi. During the match, Naomi would send Billie Kay into the ring post on the outside but this would cost Naomi as Peyton Royce would take advantage of the distraction, hitting Naomi with a fisherman suplex, pinning Naomi for the win. After her surprising actions at SummerSlam, where she attacked her best friend and new SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch would appear on SmackDown LIVE to explain her actions. Becky says that she should be standing there as the SmackDown Women’s Champion and, since that moment was stolen from her, Charlotte Flair “deserved” the beating she received. Becky then says that SummerSlam was supposed to be about her and that she is her own woman. Becky continues, saying that she has been made an “afterthought” and telling the fans that she has had it with the “opinions” and she decided to take action. Becky then says that she realized at SummerSlam that Charlotte Flair had been holding her back and she knew that she was going to rip Charlotte’s head off. Becky then says that there is not a woman on this roster or anywhere else that can tell her that she’s not the best. This brings out new SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, who tosses the title belt aside before charging to the ring where a brawl breaks out between the two former best friends. Referees would try to break things up before Paige brings out the rest of the SmackDown LIVE women’s division to try and break it up, but both Becky and Charlotte would break free to get a piece of each other before the Superstars are finally able to keep the peace. In a rematch from the SummerSlam Kickoff, SmackDown LIVE would see Rusev & Lana face Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega in a Mixed Tag Match. During the match, Andrade “Cien” Almas would try to bring a steel chair into the ring but Aiden English was there to take the chair away. This would benefit Rusev & Lana as Rusev would lock in the Accolade on Andrade, making Andrade tap out to pick up the win for the husband and wife team. After Samoa Joe sent him into a rage at SummerSlam, resulting in the WWE Title match ending by disqualification, WWE Champion AJ Styles would appear on SmackDown LIVE for an exclusive interview about his actions. AJ says that he’s not proud of how the match ended at SummerSlam but Samoa Joe “crossed the line” before the WWE Champion vows to rip Samoa Joe’s heart out if Joe ever mentions his family again. However, this is when Styles is ambushed by Samoa Joe as “The Destroyer” locks in the Coquina Clutch, putting the WWE Champion to sleep. Joe then grabs a microphone to address AJ’s family once again, saying that “daddy” has already gone “night night”. Then it was time for the main event as, after The Bludgeon Brothers got themselves disqualified to keep their titles, the rematch would take place on SmackDown LIVE as The Bludgeon Brothers would defend the SmackDown Tag Team Titles against The New Day’s Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods and this time there would be no disqualifications! During the chaotic match, both teams would use the lack of rules to their advantage before The Bludgeon Brothers would bridge a ladder between two chairs before grabbing Kofi Kingston and slamming Kofi on the steel with their crucifix bomb but Kofi somehow kicks out! Rowan then slides a table into the ring as Harper sets the table up before Rowan punishes Kofi with headbutts on the outside. Harper then hands one of the mallets and hands it to Rowan before Rowan charges at Kofi Kingston, but Xavier Woods pulls Kofi out of the way and Rowan crashes through the barricade! Back in the ring, Harper would look to put Xavier through the table but Xavier would use The Bludgeon Brothers’ mallet to intervene, following it up with Trouble in Paradise. Kofi then places Harper on the table as Xavier climbs to the top rope before taking flight with the Limit Breaker to Harper through the table! Xavier then hops on the pinfall, scoring the three-count as The New Day become the brand new SmackDown Tag Team Champions! After the match, Big E comes out to celebrate with Kofi & Xavier as, for the fifth time in their already legendary career, The New Day are the tag team champions.
