WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: March 27, 2018By Cassidy| March 29, 2018 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results Less than two weeks before he defends the United States Championship against Bobby Roode and Jinder Mahal in a Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania, United States Champion Randy Orton would team with “Glorious” Bobby Roode to face “The Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal and Sunil Singh in the opening match of the night. However, before the match begins, Sunil Singh would accompany Jinder Mahal out to the stage sporting a sling and a neck brace. Jinder would claim that Sunil is unable to compete tonight before revealing that he has found a replacement in the form of “The Lion of Bulgaria” Rusev! During the match, Jinder Mahal would deliver a right hand to Bobby Roode, knocking Roode into Randy Orton. This would lead to a confrontation between Orton and Roode with “The Viper” taking out his own tag team partner with the RKO! Orton then turns right around into the Machka Kick from Rusev, who pins the United States Champion to pick up the win for himself and Jinder Mahal. With both of them set to compete in the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal, “The Irish Lass Kicker” Becky Lynch would go one-on-one with the leader of The Riott Squad, Ruby Riott, with Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan in her corner. After enduring interference from Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan throughout the match, Becky Lynch would knock Liv Morgan off of the ring apron onto Sarah Logan, temporarily taking them out. Ruby Riott would try to capitalize on the distraction with a roll-up but Becky would kick out before securing a roll-up of her own to pick up the win. After the match, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan would attack Becky but “The Irish Lass Kicker” would get the better of Liv & Sarah, tossing them both out of the ring. After being attacked by Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn last week, SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan would come out to the stage to address the attack. The GM says that last week was one of the best nights of his career when he was told he was cleared to compete again before saying that they have repeatedly said that SmackDown LIVE is the “land of opportunity”. Daniel then says that he is giving Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn one more “opportunity” before proposing a match that would see him team with SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon to face Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn at WrestleMania! The GM points out that, while Shane McMahon is currently hospitalized, he has reason to believe that Shane will be ready compete in time for WrestleMania. Daniel continues, saying that, if he and Shane win, then Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn will remain fired but, if Owens & Zayn win, they will be reinstated to SmackDown LIVE! The GM then says that he gives Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn opportunities because he’s known them for fifteen years and he’s competed with and against them. Daniel then says that he is sick of “meetings” and “paperwork” because he fought for three years to try and get back in the ring and wrestle but Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn tried to take that away from him. Daniel then emphatically proclaims that he will continue to get back up and he will compete at WrestleMania before shouting that he is going to kick Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn’s ass at WrestleMania! For the first time since Fastlane, The New Day would be reunited on SmackDown LIVE as The New Day’s Big E & Xavier Woods, with Kofi Kingston in their corner, would face the team that beat them down at Fastlane, The Bludgeon Brothers. During the match, Rowan would grab the mallets on the outside but this is when The Usos would attack Rowan, ending the match by disqualification. All three members of The New Day would then work together to send Harper out of the ring before The Usos and The New Day argue in the ring. The Bludgeon Brothers then grab their mallets and head back into the ring with The Usos and The New Day narrowly escaping the ring. With Breezango and Dolph Ziggler taking part in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania, Tyler Breeze, with Fandango in his corner, would go one-on-one with Dolph Ziggler on SmackDown LIVE. In the end, it was Dolph Ziggler hitting Tyler Breeze with the Zig Zag, pinning Breeze for the win. After the match, Dolph Ziggler would admire the Andre The Giant trophy at ringside before dropping Fandango with a super kick. Then it was time for the main event as, twelve nights before he challenges AJ Styles for the WWE Title at WrestleMania, “The Artist” Shinsuke Nakamura, with WWE Champion AJ Styles in his corner per Nakamura’s request, would go one-on-one with Shelton Benjamin, with Chad Gable in his corner. During the match, AJ Styles would pull Chad Gable off of the ring apron to prevent any interference. In the end, it was Shinsuke Nakamura connecting with the Kinshasa, pinning Shelton Benjamin for the win. After the match, Shinsuke Nakamura asks AJ Styles to join him in the ring, saying that he didn’t need AJ’s help. Nakamura then says that he just wanted the WWE Champion to see how he was going to beat AJ at WrestleMania. Styles responds by saying that this is a dream match for him just as much as it is for the fans, saying that, after he defeats Nakamura at WrestleMania, he proves that he is “the best” and he proves that this is “the house that AJ Styles built”. Nakamura then says that is why he will beat AJ at WrestleMania, because Styles it “too emotional”. Nakamura then leaves the ring but, once Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin attack AJ Styles, Nakamura makes the save, taking out Gable & Benjamin. Nakamura then looks like he is about to hit AJ with the Kinshasa, but Nakamura stops short, telling Styles “knee to face” before patting the WWE Champion on the head and leaving the ring, continuing his mind games with AJ Styles.
