WWE Fastlane 2018 ResultsBy Cassidy| March 13, 2018 WWE PPVs Previous Page Detailed Results After the team of Tye Dillinger and Breezango was victorious over Mojo Rawley, Chad Gable, and Shelton Benjamin on the Fastlane Kickoff, Fastlane gets underway with the winner of the 2018 Men’s Royal Rumble Match as “The Artist Known As” Shinsuke Nakamura would go one-on-one with “The Bulgarian Brute” Rusev, with Aiden English in his corner. In the end, it was Shinsuke Nakamura avoiding the Accolade before scoring with the Kinshasa, pinning Rusev to pick up the win in the opening match of the night. In the first title match of the night, “Glorious” Bobby Roode would defend the prestigious United States Championship against “The Viper” Randy Orton at Fastlane. At the end of a hard-fought match, Bobby Roode would come off of the second rope but Randy Orton would catch Roode out of mid-air with the RKO, pinning Roode to pick up the win and become the new United States Champion! After the match, Orton would celebrate with the one title in WWE that has eluded him his entire career, but his celebration would be cut short by the arrival of Jinder Mahal, who makes his way to the ring to confront the new champion. Jinder would get the better of the weary new champion, putting the boots to Randy Orton before Bobby Roode gets involved, hitting Jinder with the Glorious DDT. Roode then picks Orton up, hitting the Glorious DDT on the new champion as well! Roode then leaves the ring in a huff, clearly frustrated over losing the United States Title. The women of SmackDown LIVE would be in tag team action at Fastlane as Becky Lynch and Naomi would take on “Ms. Money-in-the-Bank” Carmella and Natalya. During the match, Natalya would get on the ring apron with Carmella’s Money-in-the-Bank briefcase and Becky Lynch would turn her attention to Natalya, knocking Natalya off of the ring apron. This distraction would give Carmella the opening she needed to catch Becky with the super kick, pinning Becky to pick up the win for herself and Natalya. The SmackDown Tag Team Titles would then be on the line at Fastlane as The Usos would defend the tag titles against The New Day’s Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods, with Big E in their corner. During a match that would see both teams use their opposing team’s signature moves to try and score the win, The Usos would take the skies and dive to the outside to take out Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods. This is when The Bludgeon Brothers would arrive on the scene, attacking both teams to end the match inconclusively. Harper & Rowan would take it to all five competitors as Harper would slam one of The Usos on the floor before both big men deliver simultaneous big boots to the head of Xavier Woods before delivering a suplex to Xavier on the floor. Harper & Rowan would continue to decimate the two teams before Rowan grabs the large mallets. Rowan would swing and miss at the head of one of The Usos before Harper uses his mallet to clothesline the other Uso over the barricade. The Bludgeon Brothers then drag out the larger bottom half of the steel steps before turning their attention to Xavier Woods as Rowan hands Woods to Harper, who powerbombs Xavier right on the steel! With their mallets over their shoulders, The Bludgeon Brothers would then calmly walk to the back as medical personnel rush out to check on The Usos and The New Day. The SmackDown Women’s Title would then be on the line at Fastlane as Charlotte Flair would defend the title against The Riott Squad’s Ruby Riott, who would noticeably be without Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan in her corner. However, it wouldn’t take long for Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan to show up at ringside and, with Morgan & Logan closing in on Charlotte on the outside, Becky Lynch & Naomi would rush out to stand guard against Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan. Later on in the match, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan would slide into the ring to bait Becky & Naomi into the ring. Their plan would work at first as the referee would eject Becky & Naomi from ringside and, with the referee distracted, Liv & Sarah would attack Charlotte before the referee ejects Morgan & Logan from ringside as well! While Ruby Riott would counter the first attempt at the Figure-Eight, Charlotte would persevere, locking in the Figure-Eight on Ruby Riott, making Riott tap out to successfully retain the SmackDown Women’s Title. However, after the match, things would take a very intriguing turn as the winner of the 2018 Women’s Royal Rumble Match Asuka would make her way to the ring to confront Charlotte Flair, going face-to-face with the SmackDown Women’s Champion before pointing at the WrestleMania sign, making it clear that “The Empress of Tomorrow” has made her choice as Asuka will challenge Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Title at WrestleMania! Then it was time for the main event as, with SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon at ringside, a Six Pack Challenge would decide would determine who will walk into WrestleMania as the WWE Champion as AJ Styles would defend the WWE Title against Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, and John Cena where the first Superstar to score a pinfall or submission would leave Columbus and head to WrestleMania as the WWE Champion. The match would start off with a flurry by John Cena as Cena would immediately hit the Attitude Adjustment on Sami Zayn before hitting the Attitude Adjustment on Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler, and Baron Corbin in succession, leaving it down to just AJ Styles and John Cena in the early going. Cena and Styles would briefly trade shots before Zayn, Owens, Ziggler, and Corbin would get on the ring apron as, along with AJ Styles, they would all gang up on John Cena, beating Cena down and tossing Cena out of the ring before all alliances are thrown out the window as the match breaks down into a wild free-for-all. Later on in the match, John Cena and Dolph Ziggler would trade blows in the ring with Cena ultimately locking in the STF but, desperate to keep his title, AJ Styles would break up the submission. AJ would then hit Cena with the Styles Clash but Sami Zayn would break up the pinfall attempt. Baron Corbin then takes out the opposition before Dolph sends Corbin out of the ring. “The Lone Wolf” then tosses Ziggler over the barricade before resuming his fight with Dolph in the crowd, which ends with Ziggler and Corbin taking each other out. Meanwhile, at ringside, Kevin Owens exposes two of the announce tables with the intent of putting AJ Styles through one of the tables but AJ would battle back before setting his sights on Sami Zayn, sending Sami over the barricade. John Cena then looks for the Attitude Adjustment to Kevin Owens but Owens wiggles free before Styles tries to take Cena out but Cena grabs AJ and puts the WWE Champion through the announce table with a huge Attitude Adjustment! Back in the ring, it would come down to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn as Sami tells Owens that he’s a man of his word before literally laying down for Kevin Owens. However, Owens would not believe Sami and would try to pick Zayn up but Sami would counter with a roll-up with Owens kicking out. The best friendship between Owens and Zayn would then go out the window as Owens and Zayn would try to take the other out with Sami dropping Owens back-first on the ring apron. Sami then notices Shane McMahon at ringside and Zayn would decide to get in the face of the Commissioner. Owens would look to take advantage of the distraction but Sami would move out of the way and Owens would inadvertently level Shane with a super kick! Back in the ring, Kevin Owens would take out Sami Zayn before Dolph Ziggler re-enters the fray with Owens getting the better of Dolph, hitting Ziggler with the Pop-Up Powerbomb. However, with the three-count seemingly all but a certainty for Kevin Owens, Shane McMahon would pull the referee out of the ring at the last second, costing Owens the WWE Title! Owens would then lock his gaze on the Commissioner and Sami Zayn would look to take advantage, hitting Owens with the Helluva Kick but Shane would then pull Sami out of the ring, doing whatever he can to make sure that neither Owens or Zayn win the WWE Title! On the outside, Baron Corbin would use the steel steps to take John Cena out before Corbin brings the steps into the ring, using the steps to take out Owens, Zayn, and Ziggler before trying to deliver another shot to Corbin with the steel. However, Cena would block the attempt before Cena hits Corbin with the Attitude Adjustment onto the steel steps with Dolph Ziggler able to break up the pinfall attempt. Cena then looks to level Dolph with the steps but Ziggler gets out of the way before catching Cena with a super kick, but Cena rebounds with the Attitude Adjustment to Dolph. Kevin Owens then comes back into the ring, planting Cena with the Pop-Up Powerbomb before AJ Styles takes flight, scoring with the Phenomenal Forearm, pinning Kevin Owens to successfully retain the WWE Championship in a hellacious Six Pack Challenge, ensuring the dream WWE Title match between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura will go ahead as planned at WrestleMania! After the match, Shane McMahon would look at Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn on the outside before walking to the back as, in the ring, Cena sits in the corner, disappointed and frustrated at again being denied his Road to WrestleMania while AJ Styles celebrates with the WWE Title as “The Phenomenal One” now looks ahead to defending the prestigious title against Shinsuke Nakamura on “The Grandest Stage of Them All” on April 8 in New Orleans.
