WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: October 17, 2017By Cassidy| October 22, 2017 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results With Michael Cole filling in for Tom Phillips on commentary, SmackDown LIVE kicks off with a homecoming of sorts as, in his home state of Washington, the show opens with SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan. After the chants of “Daniel Bryan” and “welcome home” settle down, Daniel gets down to business, announcing a 6-Woman Tag match pitting Natalya, Tamina, and Lana against Naomi, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair. The GM then promotes the “very special announcement” from WWE Champion Jinder Mahal as well as the rematch between Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode. Daniel then addresses the actions of Sami Zayn at WWE Hell in a Cell before the GM is interrupted by Sami Zayn, who makes his way to the ring. Daniel asks if this is the same Sami Zayn that he’s known for thirteen years with Sami saying that he’s the Sami Zayn that Daniel has always known, saying that he’s still a “great guy”. Sami then says that all he did was “take ownership” of his career back, asking if that really makes him a “bad guy”, saying that he thought that, of all people, Daniel would understand. The GM admits that he knows what it’s like to be in Sami’s shoes before Sami interrupts, saying that they are not the same. Sami admits that they are both “gifted, in-ring performers” before quipping that at least he still is before saying that management never believed in either one of them. Sami continues, saying that the difference is that Daniel had the fans, saying the fans “made” Daniel Bryan before saying that, when it comes to him, the fans didn’t uphold their end of the “unspoken contract”. Sami explains that he comes out there and does everything that’s right and, in exchange, they cheer and chant for him so loudly that they make him “undeniable” to management but they “never” did it for him. Sami then says that he doesn’t care what the fans think anymore and it feels “amazing”, saying that Daniel should have taken back ownership of his career a long time ago and lost his “martyr complex”. Sami continues, saying that the fans got into Daniel’s head and, if Daniel had done what Sami did and worked “smarter” instead of working “harder”, Daniel would not have had to retire in this very arena. Sami then says that Daniel was the performer of their generation, saying that he always tried to keep up with Daniel but he was always “two steps ahead” but, now, Bryan is the “last person” he would ever want to be like. Sami then says that Daniel broke his body for the “glory” and the “adulation” just to end up a “housewife”. This brings Kevin Owens out to the ring, telling Sami Zayn that he’s glad that Sami has finally “seen the light” and listened to what he’s been saying. Owens then says that he feels like he has to “clarify” a few things, saying that Daniel Bryan was a “pathetic martyr” and, at one point, he was practically “Mr. Bella” but, now, Daniel has become what he spent so many years fighting against, calling the GM a “hypocrite”. Daniel responds by saying that he can see right through Kevin Owens, saying that Owens doesn’t care about Sami Zayn and he never has, saying that Owens doesn’t care about anyone but himself. The GM then says that, maybe, Owens resents him because he cares about what is “best for the fans”. Owens responds by saying that Daniel does what is “best for business”, saying that Bryan is now “the authority”. Sami agrees with Owens, saying that Daniel Bryan has become the very thing that Bryan spent his entire career fighting against and there’s only one word for a person like that, calling Daniel a “sellout”. Sami then thanks Owens for “saving” him from becoming like Daniel Bryan. Owens and Zayn then hug in the ring as Daniel shakes his head before leaving the ring. However, Owens asks where Daniel is going before saying that walking out of this arena is the best thing that the GM has got nowadays. Bryan responds by saying that he’s going to go find a couple of dudes to come punch Owens and Zayn in the face! Following their brawl in the backstage area last week, the opening match of the night would see Charlotte Flair team up with Becky Lynch and Naomi to face the team of SmackDown Women’s Champion Natalya, Lana, and Tamina in a 6-Woman Tag match with “Ms. Money-in-the-Bank” Carmella a guest on commentary with a firm hold on the leashed James Ellsworth. In the end, it was Charlotte Flair locking in the Figure-Eight on Lana, making Lana tap out to pick up the win for her team. After the match, Natalya would pull Charlotte out of the ring, sending Charlotte into the announce table before grabbing a steel chair. However, Charlotte would catch Natalya with a kick to the face before chasing after the SmackDown Women’s Champion with chair in hand, but Natalya would make a quick escape through the crowd. After successfully defending the United States Title against AJ Styles last week, the United States Champion was in action on SmackDown LIVE as Baron Corbin would go one-on-one with Sin Cara in a non-title match. During the match, Sin Cara would dive out of the ring onto Baron Corbin on the outside. Sin Cara would then get back into the ring before the referee’s ten-count but Corbin was unable to do the same as Sin Cara picks up a big count-out win over the United States Champion. WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, along with The Singh Brothers, would then appear on SmackDown LIVE as Jinder would issue a “special Survivor Series challenge”. Jinder says that he was given the “royal treatment” upon his return to India this past week. The WWE Champion then says that he’s beaten Randy Orton multiple times and beaten Shinsuke Nakamura multiple times, saying that he has beaten “anybody worth beating on SmackDown LIVE”. Jinder then declares that he must beat a man who the fans see as being “unbeatable”, saying that he must beat the “most dominant force” in WWE before Jinder makes the shocking announcement that he is challenging “The Beast” Brock Lesnar to a Champion vs. Champion match at Survivor Series! Jinder then says that he wants all of them to bow before him, declaring that he is the “greatest WWE Champion of all time”. The WWE Champion is then interrupted by “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles, who makes his way to the ring. AJ points out that Jinder has never beaten him with Jinder saying that there is “no worthy competition on SmackDown LIVE”. Jinder then says that AJ is a “loser” while he is a “winner”, pointing out that he is the WWE Champion. Styles says that, since Jinder thinks he’s a loser, then Jinder should have no problem putting the WWE Title on the line against him. Jinder says that he says that AJ is at the “back of the line”, calling Styles “delusional” just like the fans, saying that it’s a “joke” that AJ is even out there challenging him. Styles responds by attacking the WWE Champion with a forearm before chasing off The Singh Brothers and catching Jinder Mahal with the Pele Kick. The Singh Brothers then pull the WWE Champion out of the ring to safety as AJ Styles proves to Jinder Mahal that he is more than worthy of challenging for the WWE Title. Backstage, Jinder Mahal and The Singh Brothers confront Daniel Bryan, demanding to know what the GM is going to do about it. Daniel then asks what the WWE Champion is going to do about it. Jinder responds by saying that he is going to “make AJ Styles pay” before putting Sunil Singh in a match against AJ Styles next week in Jinder Mahal’s honor! Daniel then makes the match official, saying that it sounds like a “phenomenal idea”. After using Dolph Ziggler’s own underhanded tactics against him to pick up the win over Dolph at WWE Hell in a Cell only to get laid out by the Zig Zag after the match, the rematch would take place on SmackDown LIVE as “Glorious” Bobby Roode would go one-on-one with Dolph Ziggler. Much like WWE Hell in a Cell, both men would try to cheat to win with Dolph Ziggler ultimately out-cheating Bobby Roode, hooking the tights of “The Glorious One” for the illegal advantage to pick up the win, evening things up between the two rivals. Then it was time for the main event as the team of thirteen-time former World Champion “The Viper” Randy Orton and “The Artist” Shinsuke Nakamura would face the reunited Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. During the match, Randy Orton and Sami Zayn would fight on the outside with Orton going for his signature slam on the announce table but, when Orton slams Sami on the table, “The Viper” sends Zayn crashing through the table! Shortly after this, Kevin Owens would pull Shinsuke Nakamura off of the ring apron before sending Nakamura into the steel steps. Owens then distracts the referee so that Sami Zayn can deliver a low blow to Orton behind the back of the referee. Sami then follows this up with the Helluva Kick to “The Viper”, pinning Orton to pick up a big win for himself and Kevin Owens. Backstage, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn run into Daniel Bryan following their victory, rubbing the victory in the GM’s face before asking what Daniel has for them next week. However, Daniel says that it’s not up to him, revealing that SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon will return next week! This instantly changes the mood of Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn as Shane will no doubt have revenge on his mind for what Sami Zayn did to him at WWE Hell in a Cell. However, it would not take long for Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn to get back into a celebratory mood as Owens & Zayn would come back out to the stage, mocking Daniel Bryan’s “yes” chant and reminding Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura that they just beat theme. Owens then proclaims that he and Sami Zayn are SmackDown LIVE and there is “nothing” that anybody can do about it, declaring that Sami Zayn is his “best friend” before Sami embraces Owens before the best friends head to the back.
