WWE RAW Results: August 28, 2017By Cassidy| August 29, 2017 WWE Raw Previous Page Detailed Results With Michael Cole, Corey Graves, and Memphis’ own Jerry “The King” Lawler, who is filling in for Booker T due to Hurricane Harvey keeping Booker T in Houston, calling the action, RAW kicks off with Intercontinental Champion The Miz, his wife Maryse, and The Miztourage already in the ring. However, before The Miz can even say one word, he is interrupted by the arrival of RAW General Manager Kurt Angle. The GM says that he thinks he knows what The Miz is about to say, saying that Miz’s perception of the status of the Intercontinental Championship has been “diminished”, pointing out that the Intercontinental Title was the only title not defended at SummerSlam. Kurt then announces that the Intercontinental Title will be on the line at No Mercy, but before Kurt can reveal who The Miz’s opponent will be, The Miz interrupts, saying that the GM does not understand what “respect” means. The Miz then says that it is “disrespectful” to the prestigious Intercontinental Championship when you don’t give it the “showcase” it deserves. The GM then finishes his announcement, saying that there will be a good, old-fashioned over-the-top rope battle royal tonight with the winner of that battle royal challenging The Miz for the Intercontinental Title on next week’s RAW and the battle royal starts right now! As decreed by RAW General Manager Kurt Angle moments earlier, a #1 Contender’s Battle Royal would determine who will challenge The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship next week as Finn Balor, The Hardy Boyz, Jason Jordan, Elias, R-Truth, Kalisto, Curt Hawkins, Apollo Crews, Goldust, Gallows & Anderson, The Miz’s own Miztourage, and “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show would all compete for the title opportunity in the opening match of the night with Intercontinental Champion The Miz and his wife Maryse watching from ringside! As soon as the match begins, every competitor in the match, except for Big Show, would team up to eliminate Curt Hawkins from the match! After a group of the combatants try to eliminate Big Show to no avail, everyone breaks off and free-for-all truly gets underway. Shortly after this, The Miztourage would work together as Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel would eliminate Kalisto from the battle royal. Gallows & Anderson then work together to try and eliminate Big Show but are unable to do so until they get an assist from an old friend as Finn Balor helps his former friends eliminate “The World’s Largest Athlete”! The Miztourage then toss R-Truth out before, a little later on, Luke Gallows catches Goldust with a super kick before Karl Anderson pulls down the top rope, sending “The Bizarre One” over the top, followed shortly by Elias eliminating Apollo Crews. Matt Hardy then scores an elimination by pulling down the top rope, using Luke Gallows’ own momentum to eliminate Gallows from the match. This leads to Matt Hardy and Karl Anderson battling on the apron with Matt getting the better of Anderson, sending Anderson into the ring post to eliminate Anderson. However, despite already being eliminated, Luke Gallows would pull Matt Hardy off of the apron, eliminating Matt from the match before both men beat Matt down on the outside! Meanwhile, on the other side of the ring, The Miz comes to the aid of his Miztourage, knocking down both Finn Balor and Jeff Hardy to keep them from eliminating Bo Dallas. Finn Balor then takes control in the match, dominating the other five participants in the battle royal. However, this is when Bray Wyatt would appear, attacking Finn Balor from behind and eliminating Finn from the match despite Bray not even being an official participant in the match! Bray then disappears just as quickly as he appeared, leaving Finn Balor confused and enraged on the outside. The Miztourage then set their sights on Jason Jordan, but the son of Kurt Angle is able to hoist both Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel over the top rope, eliminating both men! In a lightning quick sequence, Jason Jordan is then able to eliminate Elias before the veteran Jeff Hardy quickly eliminates Jason Jordan to win the battle royal as it will be Jeff Hardy challenging The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship next week on RAW, leaving The Miz in shock at ringside! After making his surprise arrival in the Cruiserweight Division by confronting WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville on last week’s 205 Live, Enzo Amore would make his Cruiserweight Division debut against Noam Dar. In the end, it was Enzo Amore hitting Noam Dar with the Eat Defeat, pinning Dar for the win. After the match, Neville would be interviewed backstage regarding Enzo Amore as the WWE Cruiserweight Champion would call Enzo a “weasel” before saying that, if Enzo is his next challenger, then he’s going to be the champion “forever and ever and ever”. After getting manhandled by his No Mercy opponent Braun Strowman last week, Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and his advocate Paul Heyman would appear on RAW. Heyman says that they are not there to “sing the blues” regarding Braun Strowman, they are there to sing Braun’s praises. The advocate then says that Braun Strowman is the most legitimate contender for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship, recalling when Braun twice put Brock Lesnar through two announce tables at SummerSlam as well as dominating the Universal Champion with a pair of running powerslams on last week’s RAW. Heyman continues, saying that Brock Lesnar “ducks no monster” before saying that Brock is going to “hunt” Braun Strowman down. Brock then takes the microphone from his advocate, deciding to sum it up for Braun Strowman in just three words, “Suplex City, bitch”! Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman then leave the ring, having left no doubt that Brock Lesnar is looking forward to colliding with Braun Strowman sooner than later. One-half of the RAW Tag Team Champions were in action on RAW as “The Kingslayer” Seth Rollins, with Dean Ambrose in his corner, would go one-on-one with “The Swiss Cyborg” Cesaro, with Sheamus in his corner. During the match, Sheamus would try to get involved and this would spark a brawl between Dean Ambrose and Sheamus, which distracts Seth Rollins long enough for Cesaro to take advantage, rolling Seth up to pick up the win. Immediately after this match, the other halves of the respective teams would compete in an impromptu match as the other half of the RAW Tag Team Champions, Dean Ambrose, with Seth Rollins in his corner, would go one-on-one with “The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus, with Cesaro in his corner. During the match, Cesaro would get on the ring apron and Seth Rollins would pull Cesaro off of the apron before Seth uses his quickness to get the better of Cesaro as Rollins would quickly enter the ring but, when Cesaro tries to chase Rollins, the referee stops Cesaro. With the referee’s back turned, it would give Rollins the opportunity to springboard off of the top rope, catching Sheamus with a knee before Seth quickly dives out of the ring to take out Cesaro! This would allow Dean Ambrose to spike Sheamus with Dirty Deeds, pinning Sheamus to pick up the win. After getting squashed by Nia Jax last week, the outspoken Emma would be looking to get back on track on RAW as Emma went one-on-one with Mickie James. In the end, it was Emma surprising Mickie James with a roll-up, pinning Mickie to pick up the win. After the match, Emma would grab a microphone and proudly repeat “I started the women’s revolution” as she walks to the back. Following their surreal confrontation on last week’s RAW, a blockbuster match would be made official for No Mercy as sixteen-time former World Champion John Cena and “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns would be in the same ring at the same time for the official contract signing for their match at No Mercy! With RAW General Manager Kurt Angle serving as the moderator for the contract signing, the GM would first introduce John Cena, who makes his way to the ring. Cena says that, since arriving in WWE, Roman Reigns has been the “blue chip prospect” that has been “protected” from everyone in his path. Cena then says that there is “no protection” from him, saying that is why he wants to fight Roman Reigns because he knows that Reigns does not want to fight him. Cena then signs the contract before Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring for his part of the proceedings. Reigns tells Cena that Cena is not as big of a deal as Cena thinks that he is before saying that he did something that John Cena will never do by retiring The Undertaker at WrestleMania. Roman then says that it’s not that he doesn’t want to fight Cena, it’s that he doesn’t “need” to fight Cena. John Cena responds by everyone in the back knows that Roman Reigns is “The Big Dog” but everyone in the crowd is still trying to “figure it out”. Cena then says that he has long been a “polarizing figure” in WWE, saying that some of the fans cheer him because they believe in what he stands for while others boo him because they want him to change the content of his character. Cena continues, saying that the fans go back-and-forth with Reigns because the fans see what he sees and that’s a “cheap-ass, corporately-created John Cena bootleg”! Cena then says that Reigns is trying so hard to fill shoes that he will never fill before saying that’s he’s not The Undertaker, saying he’s not a “battered veteran at the end of his career with a bad hip”. Cena then says that the reason that Roman won’t sign the contract is because he knows that, if he does, then his Roman Empire will be no more. Reigns responds by saying that they don’t boo John Cena because they want Cena to be a bad guy, they boo Cena because he sucks and they boo Cena because he’s a “yes man” who can learn how to do anything or be anything, calling Cena a “fake bitch”. Roman Reigns continues, calling Cena a “part-timing fake-ass bitch” and he will be damned if he doesn’t bust his ass each and every night so that Cena can “hang out on the Today show”, saying that Cena will “hop on a bus” and show up at a WWE event if they pay him enough. Roman then says that Cena is going to jump off of that bus with a “big shovel” and “bury as much young talent” as Cena can because that’s what Cena does! Roman then calls Cena a “back-stabbing shark” and what bothers John Cena is the fact that he is the one guy that Cena cannot bury, saying that he’s the one guy that Cena “can’t see”. Reigns continues, asking why he would want to lessen himself and his legacy to be the next John Cena when he can be “the one and only Roman Reigns”. Cena then fires back, saying that Reigns is a “fool” for coming out there and saying the exact same thing everybody else has said before him, saying that Roman has the gall to blame him, telling Roman that it took him “five years to cut a halfway decent promo” before saying that he’s about to cut Reigns down to size. John Cena then says that he doesn’t have “magical powers”, saying that the fans hold the key and they always have and they always will, saying he’s been called “a lot worse by a lot tougher”. Cena continues, telling Reigns that he hasn’t main evented WrestleMania in five years and he was in the opening match of SummerSlam, saying that he was “honored and privileged” to win the United States Title at this stage of his career and use that championship to “introduce new Superstars” like Kevin Owens and AJ Styles. Cena then says that Roman Reigns considered the United States Title a “demotion” before saying that, if Roman wants to blame him, then he blames Roman, saying that he is still there because Roman can’t do his “job”. Cena then says that, over the years, there’s been a few to “step up” but none who can “keep up” then he hears about this guy named Roman Reigns who is finally the one who can “keep up”, but what he sees before him is someone who should be “ashamed” that Cena is a part-timer because he can do this “part-time” better than Roman could ever do it “full-time”! Cena then watches as Roman signs the contract to make the match official for No Mercy before Reigns flips the table over, clearly ready to fight. However, the intense confrontation is interrupted by Gallows & Anderson, saying that neither Cena nor Reigns are not a “good brother” so they need to be taught a lesson by a couple of “good brothers”. Kurt Angle then makes the impromptu match official, announcing that John Cena and Roman Reigns will have to co-exist as a team to face Gallows & Anderson right now! Following what was possibly the most scathing and intense contract signing of all-time, bitter rivals would be forced to team up as No Mercy opponents John Cena and Roman Reigns would team up to face Gallows & Anderson. Surprisingly, John Cena and Roman Reigns were able to co-exist as a team as, while John Cena hits Luke Gallows with the Attitude Adjustment, Roman Reigns would blast Karl Anderson with the Spear, pinning Anderson to pick up the win for his team. After the match, John Cena and Roman Reigns would stare each other down with Cena applauding Reigns. Elias would then make an appearance on RAW with a special song for Memphis before Elias is interrupted by WWE Hall of Famer and Memphis’ own Jerry “The King” Lawler, who brings out Southpaw Regional Wrestling star “Impressive” Pelvis Wesley. While Elias briefly humors Pelvis, it would not take long for Elias to beat Pelvis down and hit Pelvis with Drift Away. Then it was time for the main event as, in a rematch from SummerSlam, “The Boss” Sasha Banks would defend the RAW Women’s Championship against former champion Alexa Bliss. During the match, Alexa Bliss would hit a big superplex on Sasha Banks, but when the challenger went for the cover, Sasha would trap Alexa in the Bank Statement with Alexa countering the submission into a pinfall attempt, but the champion kicks out. Alexa then sends Sasha throat-first into the top rope before planting “The Boss” with her signature DDT, pinning Sasha Banks to win the RAW Women’s Title! After the match, Alexa Bliss’ friend Nia Jax would come out to the ring, hitting a running splash to Sasha Banks before Nia celebrates with the new RAW Women’s Champion, putting Alexa on her shoulder and parading the “Goddess” around the ring. Then, much to the surprise of Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax would drop her supposed friend in the middle of the ring before holding up the RAW Women’s Title, staking her claim to the RAW Women’s Championship. Nia then leaves the ring with a smile on her face, leaving Alexa down in the ring. What did you think of this week’s RAW? Post your comments in the box below.
