WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: June 27, 2017By Cassidy| June 28, 2017 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results The historic episode of SmackDown LIVE kicks off with SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan as the GM hypes the two big women’s matches on SmackDown LIVE, the SmackDown Women’s Title rematch between Naomi and Lana and the second ever Women’s Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Match. However, the GM is interrupted by the woman who had the Money-in-the-Bank briefcase taken away from her last week, Carmella, along with James Ellsworth, as the duo make their way to the ring. Carmella calls SmackDown LIVE the “land of injustice” before saying that she won the Women’s Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Match “fair and square”, pointing out that the only rule in the match is the one that states that the first woman to “gain possession” of the briefcase is the winner. Carmella continues, saying that there has been interference in past Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Matches, pointing out that Seth Rollins was not stripped of his Money-in-the-Bank contract after Kane helped him win the contract a few years ago nor was Sheamus’ Money-in-the-Bank contract taken away when Bray Wyatt got involved a couple of years ago. Carmella continues to protest that she did “nothing wrong” and being more intelligent than the rest of the women on SmackDown LIVE gives Daniel “no right” to take away what is rightfully hers. The GM admits that Carmella makes some valid points before saying that never in history has someone climbed the ladder, retrieved the briefcase, and handed it to another competitor. Daniel then decides to poll the crowd as the fans in San Diego overwhelmingly support the second Women’s Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Match going on as planned. James Ellsworth then speaks up, saying that the fans are the ones that control this “stupid puppet”, referring to Daniel Bryan. Ellsworth says that, when he looks at Daniel, he sees a “gutless, spineless coward” who doesn’t have the “grapefruits” to cut it in the ring anymore so he made up some “hokey injury”! After a brief stare-down, the GM laughs at Ellsworth, saying that he should probably just fire Ellsworth, but it’s not about Ellsworth tonight, it’s about the “real Superstars” of SmackDown LIVE. Daniel then says that he’s not going to ban James Ellsworth from ringside for the Women’s Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Match, he’s banning Ellsworth from the entire arena! The GM then calls for security as a team of security guards come out to the ring, literally dragging Ellsworth out of the ring. James repeatedly tries to escape security to no avail before Ellsworth is carried out of the arena kicking and screaming. Daniel then wishes Carmella good luck before leaving the ring. The opening match of the night would see a promising tag team trying to regain their #1 Contenders’ spot as The Hype Bros would face SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos in a non-title match. In the end, it was Zack Ryder missing his Broski Boot before Jey Uso catches Ryder with a super kick. Jey then tags in his brother as Jimmy Uso hits the Uso Splash, pinning Zack Ryder to pick up the win and squash The Hype Bros’ championship pursuit. After the match, The New Day would come out to confront the SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Xavier Woods would congratulate The Usos on winning a match instead of running away like they did at WWE Money-in-the-Bank. Big E then says that they want the gold and, at next month’s Battleground pay-per-view, they’re going to take it. However, The Usos argue that The New Day doesn’t deserve another shot at the titles before the champions decide to accept The New Day’s challenge for Battleground. The SmackDown Women’s Championship would then be defended on SmackDown LIVE as, in a rematch from WWE Money-in-the-Bank, Naomi would defend the SmackDown Women’s Title against “The Ravishing Russian” Lana. However, before the match can begin, Lana attacks the champion from behind, putting the boots to Naomi before the referee breaks it up, making sure that Naomi is able to compete before calling for the bell to start the match. Lana would quickly go for her signature spinebuster but Naomi would kick out before the champion levels Lana with a kick to the head. Naomi then follows this up with a split-legged moonsault, pinning Lana to retain the SmackDown Women’s Title in decisive fashion. After dispatching Aiden English with an RKO, “The Viper” Randy Orton would take a seat on a steel chair in the middle of the ring. Orton says that he’s not leaving the ring until he gets what he wants before standing up and tossing the chair aside. “The Viper” then shows what he did to The Singh Brothers last week as WWE Champion Jinder Mahal narrowly escaped. Orton continues, saying that he’s not leaving until he gets a rematch for the WWE Championship and, if he doesn’t get what he wants, he’s going to go backstage and “beat the holy hell” out of Jinder Mahal! Orton then says that he’s going to “beat the holy hell” out of Jinder at every given opportunity. With the WWE Champion still not showing up, Randy was about to leave the ring to go looking for Jinder Mahal but he is halted by the arrival of SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon, who makes his way to the ring to confront “The Viper”. Shane says that he and Randy go way back and they can’t have Orton threatening to “beat the holy hell” out of the WWE Champion. An impatient Orton tells Shane to fire him if he has to because he doesn’t care what happens to him as long as he gets his hands on Jinder Mahal for disrespecting his family right in front of him. Randy then says that he can make this “complicated” or Shane can make it really easy right now by giving him a match with Jinder Mahal for the WWE Title. The Commissioner reminds Orton that “The Viper” has been known to use the same tactics that The Singh Brothers used at WWE Money-in-the-Bank and those tactics have led to he and Orton going one-on-one before. Shane then says that he’s never seen that look in Randy’s eyes before and, since he can “empathize” with what Orton is feeling in regards to his family being targeted, he is giving Orton his rematch against Jinder Mahal for the WWE Title at Battleground! However, Shane adds that there will be a stipulation placed on the rematch, saying that Jinder Mahal will get to choose what that stipulation will be. Randy says that he doesn’t care what the stipulation is, vowing to take the WWE Title back at Battleground. However, this brings out WWE Champion Jinder Mahal and The Singh Brothers as, staying on the stage, Jinder says that Randy is “not worthy” of a rematch. Jinder then says that, despite the “prejudice”, he will choose the stipulation for the match. Jinder then says that the match is the creation of a “giant among men”, a former World Heavyweight Champion, and his “personal hero” The Great Khali. Jinder continues, saying that, at Battleground, it will be he and Orton locked inside the Punjabi Prison Match! Lying dormant for the last decade, the dangerous and unforgiving spiked bamboo nightmare known as the Punjabi Prison where a bamboo structure is placed around the ring and, outside that structure is a second, larger structure. In between the two structures are a plentiful bounty of weapons to use with the only way to obtain victory is by escaping both steel re-enforced bamboo structures by climbing over the top! Maria & Mike Kanellis would then make an appearance on SmackDown LIVE as “The First Lady of SmackDown LIVE” would introduce herself before Mike Kanellis introduces himself. However, Maria & Mike are interrupted by Sami Zayn as “The Underdog from the Underground” is ready for his match against Baron Corbin. For the first time since winning the Money-in-the-Bank briefcase at WWE Money-in-the-Bank, “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” was in action on SmackDown LIVE as Baron Corbin would go one-on-one with the man who has had his number in recent weeks, Sami Zayn. Despite the best efforts of Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin would catch Zayn with the End of Days, pinning Sami as “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” picks up the win. Then it was time for a historic main event as, for the first time in the history of SmackDown LIVE, a Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Match would take place as Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Natalya, Tamina, and Carmella would compete in the second ever Women’s Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Match with the first woman to climb a ladder and retrieve the Money-in-the-Bank briefcase becoming “Ms. Money-in-the-Bank”. Early on in the match, four of the five Superstars would battle on the outside, giving Carmella the opportunity to bring a ladder into the ring. Carmella then sets up the ladder, starting the climb before Charlotte, Becky, Natalya, and Tamina get back into the ring, taking Carmella out. Tamina then gets taken out before Becky fights off both Charlotte and Natalya, taking out Natalya with a Becksploder before delivering a Becksploder to Charlotte as well. “The Irish Lass Kicker” then tries to set up the ladder but Tamina intervenes, hitting a Samoan Drop before scoring with the Superfly Splash. Natalya and Charlotte then battle for control with Tamina getting involved to take out Natalya. On the outside, Tamina blocks a super kick from Carmella before sending “The Princess of Staten Island” over the announce table. Meanwhile, in the ring, Charlotte sends Natalya to the outside where Becky catches Natalya with a Becksploder on the floor. Charlotte and Tamina then battle over the ladder in the ring and, amidst the battle, Becky would rush in and scale the ladder while Charlotte and Tamina hold it in place! However, Tamina takes out Becky before trying to set up the ladder but Charlotte kicks the ladder into the face of Tamina. Natalya then takes Charlotte down with the Discus Clothesline before Natalya sets up a ladder under the briefcase. Natalya then climbs up the ladder with Charlotte using a ladder of her own to quickly meet Natalya at the top. Carmella then gets back into the ring, tipping the ladder over to send Charlotte and Natalya to the mat. Becky then gets back into the ring, taking Carmella out with a Becksploder before Tamina blasts “The Irish Lass Kicker” with a Spear, leaving all five women laid out! Natalya is the first to get back to her feet as Natalya sets up a ladder in the middle of the ring, climbing to the top before Charlotte intervenes. Charlotte then climbs over Natalya to the top of the ladder as Becky Lynch climbs the other side, followed shortly by Tamina. The four women then battle on their respective sides of the ladder, which causes the ladder to tip over as Natalya, Charlotte, Becky, and Tamina all crash to the mat. This provides the perfect opportunity for Carmella to get back into the ring and set up the ladder. Carmella is just about to unhook the briefcase when the other four competitors get back into the ring, all working together to lift the ladder up with Carmella on top and move it away from the briefcase! The fight then resumes with Charlotte taking Tamina out with a big boot before Natalya tosses Charlotte out of the ring. Carmella then dives off of the ladder to take out both Natalya and Becky Lynch! Charlotte Flair then crawls back into the ring, slamming the ladder on Tamina before dropping a knee on Tamina’s head. Charlotte then makes the climb up the ladder with Carmella desperately trying to pull Charlotte off of the ladder. However, Tamina is able to position herself under the opposite side of the ladder as Tamina manages to tip the ladder over, sending Charlotte and Carmella crashing down! Tamina then blasts Charlotte with a super kick before Tamina sets up the ladder underneath the briefcase before making the climb. However, Natalya and Becky Lynch are quick to intervene, pulling Tamina off of the ladder and delivering a double-team powerbomb to take out Tamina! Natalya then snatches Becky up, delivering a vicious powerbomb of her own! Natalya then grabs Carmella, locking in the Sharpshooter on “The Princess of Staten Island” before Charlotte blasts Natalya with a big boot. Charlotte then takes Carmella out with Natural Selection before Charlotte tries to take Natalya out of the ring, but Natalya tackles Charlotte, sending both of them to the outside. Natalya then sends Charlotte over the barricade before hammering away at Charlotte in the crowd! Despite being banned from the arena earlier in the night by Daniel Bryan, James Ellsworth enters through the crowd to come to the aid of Carmella! Ellsworth then helps Carmella up and into the ring before James again climbs the ladder. However, this time, Becky Lynch would prevent history from repeating itself as Becky takes out Carmella before getting a measure of revenge from WWE Money-in-the-Bank as “The Irish Lass Kicker” tips the ladder over as Ellsworth crotches himself on the top rope! Becky then climbs the ladder with Carmella trying her best to stop Becky, managing to pull Becky off of the ladder. Becky would appear to hurt her right leg upon landing but would manage to take Carmella out before trying to make the climb again. The relentless Carmella would then enter the ring wielding a steel chair, using the chair to knock Becky off of the ladder and delivering a chair shot to the back of Becky. Carmella then tosses the chair aside before climbing the ladder and successfully unhooking the Money-in-the-Bank briefcase as Carmella makes history again by becoming “Ms. Money-in-the-Bank” for the second time, becoming only the second Superstar in WWE history to win two Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Matches! Having erased all doubt, the undisputed “Ms. Money-in-the-Bank” sits proudly atop the ladder with briefcase in hand as, for the second time in eight days, Carmella has a guaranteed shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship whenever she wants it!
