WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: May 9, 2017By Cassidy| May 13, 2017 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results Less than two weeks before he defends the WWE Title against Jinder Mahal at Backlash, SmackDown LIVE kicks off with WWE Champion Randy Orton. The champion says that, at Payback, he didn’t lose the House of Horrors Match because of Bray Wyatt and he didn’t lose because of that “damn refrigerator”, he lost because Jinder Mahal got involved. Orton is then interrupted by the #1 Contender for the WWE Title, Jinder Mahal, with The Singh Brothers in tow. Jinder says that he is going to become the WWE Champion at Backlash, showing some pictures from a photo shoot he took with the WWE Title belt. Jinder continues, saying that they will no longer “disrespect” and he will “cleanse their ignorance” with his “greatness”. Things then take an interesting turn with the arrival of new United States Champion Kevin Owens, saying that no one cares about the House of Horrors and no one cares about India. Owens then says that the only thing they should care about is him, saying that he “ended” Chris Jericho’s career last week, saying that there will be no more “drinking it in” and there will be no more “List of Jericho”. Owens then states that, at Backlash, he plans on ending another career and that’s the career of AJ Styles. Now on the ring apron, Kevin Owens tells both Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal that, after Backlash, he’s coming for the WWE Championship and, in addition to being the “Face of America”, he will be the “Face of WWE”. This brings out the #1 Contender for Kevin Owens’ United States Title at Backlash, AJ Styles, saying that this is SmackDown LIVE, the “house that AJ Styles built”. AJ then says that Chris Jericho is no AJ Styles and neither is Kevin Owens, saying that Owens will “never be the face of SmackDown LIVE”. Baron Corbin then comes out, but Sami Zayn ambushes “The Lone Wolf” from behind and this sparks chaos on SmackDown LIVE as AJ Styles also knocks Kevin Owens out of the ring. Randy Orton then goes for a DDT to Jinder Mahal, but The Singh Brothers rescue the #1 Contender. This leaves Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and Sami Zayn standing tall in the ring as Jinder Mahal, Kevin Owens, Baron Corbin, and The Singh Brothers collect themselves on the outside. After aligning herself with Naomi & Charlotte Flair in the battle against The Welcoming Committee last week, the opening match of the night would see “The Irish Lass Kicker” Becky Lynch, with SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi & Charlotte Flair in her corner, square off with one-third of The Welcoming Committee, Natalya, with Carmella, James Ellsworth, & Tamina in her corner. During the match, Tamina would get on the ring apron to distract Becky Lynch and Naomi would intervene, shoving Tamina before Charlotte Flair would restrain Naomi. However, the distraction would still pay off as Natalya would knock Becky off of the second rope, pinning Becky for the win. Backstage, an argument between Naomi and Charlotte Flair is interrupted by Becky Lynch, who proposes that they get on the same page and face The Welcoming Committee in a 6-Woman Tag Match at Backlash with the three accomplished Superstars reluctantly agreeing to join forces. Former Wyatt Family brothers would square off on SmackDown LIVE as Luke Harper would go one-on-one with Erick Rowan. During the match, Erick Rowan would grab his mask and, while the referee gets rid of the mask, Rowan would deliver a thumb to the eye of Luke Harper, following it up with a spinning front slam, pinning Luke Harper to pick up the win. Amidst his recent problems with Shinsuke Nakamura, Dolph Ziggler would make an appearance on SmackDown LIVE to confront “The King of Strong Style”. Dolph says that he’s headlined pay-per-views and he’s a “movie star”, saying that the fans treat him like a “contagious disease”. Ziggler then says that Nakamura has never had “match one” on SmackDown LIVE, saying that he suffers for his “art” but he doesn’t call himself “The Artist”. Dolph continues, saying that he never needed any of the fans and saying that the fans “never cared” about him. Ziggler then calls out Shinsuke Nakamura and “The Artist” wastes no time in complying as “The King of Strong Style” arrives in the O2 Arena to a thunderous response from the UK crowd. Dolph says that Nakamura has been on SmackDown LIVE for almost a month now before Shinsuke tells Dolph to “shut up”. Nakamura then says that Dolph wants to see what he’s got, saying that he will show “The Show Off” what he’s got right now! While a referee comes out to the ring for the impromptu match, Dolph Ziggler decides not to fight Nakamura, instead saying that he will expose Shinsuke for what he truly is at Backlash. Ziggler then throws his jacket at Shinsuke before attacking Nakamura, but “The Artist” battles back, giving Ziggler a taste of what he’s capable of and Dolph opts to back off for the time being. The #1 Contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles were in action on SmackDown LIVE as Breezango would face The Ascension. In the end, it was Tyler Breeze catching Viktor with the Super Model Kick before Fandango hits the Last Dance, pinning Viktor to pick up the win for Breezango. After the match, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos come out to the stage as the champions say that, in twelve days, Breezango better have their minds right, saying that it’s “not paranoia”, it “The Usos”. Then it was time for an explosive main event as WWE Champion Randy Orton would join forces with the #1 Contender for the United States Title AJ Styles and Sami Zayn to face the #1 Contender for the WWE Title Jinder Mahal, with The Singh Brothers in his corner, United States Champion Kevin Owens, and “The Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin in a 6-Man Tag Match. During the match, AJ Styles would lock in the Calf Crusher on Baron Corbin with Kevin Owens breaking it up, sparking chaos in the match. Sami then dives to the outside to take out Jinder Mahal and Kevin Owens. AJ then goes for the Phenomenal Forearm, but Owens pulls Styles off of the top rope, giving Corbin the advantage in the match. Later on in the match, Randy Orton would go for the RKO to Jinder Mahal but The Singh Brothers would provide the distraction, allowing Jinder to level the WWE Champion with a big boot. Sami then takes Jinder out with the Blue Thunder Bomb before Baron Corbin takes Sami out with a backbreaker and Styles takes Corbin out with the Pele Kick! Owens then takes AJ out before Orton catches the United States Champion with the RKO. Jinder Mahal is then quick to surprise Orton with the Cobra Clutch Slam, pinning the WWE Champion to pick up the win for his team. Orton then comes to, glaring at Jinder Mahal, who points and yells at his Backlash opponent. What did you think of this week’s SmackDown LIVE? Post your comments in the box below.
