WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: May 2, 2017By Cassidy| May 3, 2017 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results After crashing Jinder Mahal’s photoshoot with the WWE Title belt that Jinder stole last week and returning it to Randy Orton earlier in the day, SmackDown LIVE kicks off with SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon. The Commissioner first welcomes everyone to SmackDown LIVE before asking the crowd to join him in welcoming the newest member of the SmackDown LIVE roster, introducing the brand new United States Champion Chris Jericho. The new champion makes his way to the ring, saying that he is giving the fans what they need, declaring that it’s the “new show of Jericho, smack it down man!” After Shane reminds Jericho that he will be defending the United States Title against former champion Kevin Owens tonight before the #1 Contender for the United States Title, AJ Styles, comes out to the ring. Styles tells the new United States Champion that Jericho is standing in the “house that AJ Styles built” before bringing up the past issues between himself and Chris Jericho. AJ then says that he would love to take the United States Title from Chris Jericho at Backlash, but that’s only if Jericho doesn’t lose the title to Kevin Owens later tonight. Chris Jericho responds by saying that he’s the new “Face of America” before the United States Champion is about to put AJ Styles’ name on the List of Jericho. However, former champion Kevin Owens interrupts, saying that Shane, AJ, and Jericho are talking about things that don’t matter because, tonight, he is going to take the United States Title back. Owens then tells AJ that this isn’t about Styles so AJ should get out of his ring. While “The Phenomenal One” does get out of the ring, AJ makes a beeline for Kevin Owens, sparking a brawl between Styles and Owens that has to be broken up by referees and Shane McMahon. After costing Randy Orton the House of Horrors Match against Bray Wyatt at Payback, the #1 Contender for the WWE Title Jinder Mahal, with The Singh Brothers in his corner, would go one-on-one with Sami Zayn. During the match, Sami Zayn would size Jinder Mahal up for the Helluva Kick but Sunil Singh would pull Jinder out of the way and, with the referee’s back turned, Samir Singh would trip up Sami Zayn. Jinder then takes advantage of the distraction, hitting the Cobra Clutch Slam and pinning Sami Zayn for the win. “The Perfect Ten” was in action on SmackDown LIVE as Tye Dillinger would go one-on-one with Aiden English. In the end, it was Tye Dillinger hitting the Tye Breaker and pinning Aiden English to pick up the win. Backstage, an interview with Charlotte Flair is interrupted by the trio calling themselves “The Welcoming Committee” as Natalya, Carmella, & Tamina surround Charlotte. Realizing what was about to take place, Charlotte would try to fire the first shot against The Welcoming Committee but it wouldn’t take long for the numbers game to overwhelm Charlotte as Natalya, Carmella, & Tamina beat Charlotte down just moments before Charlotte’s scheduled match. SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi was originally scheduled to team with Charlotte Flair to face Natalya & Carmella, but with Charlotte being assaulted backstage, Naomi would be forced to go it alone against Natalya & Carmella, with Tamina & James Ellsworth in their corner, in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match. During the match, Naomi and Natalya would knock each other down in the ring and, with Naomi in dire need of some assistance, Charlotte Flair would slowly make her way out to the ring, getting on the ring apron to accept the tag from Naomi, turning the match into the originally scheduled tag match! During the match, Naomi would catch Carmella with the Rear View but Natalya would keep the referee distracted. Naomi would then knock Natalya off of the ring apron only for James Ellsworth to get on the ring apron, distracting Naomi long enough for Carmella to surprise the SmackDown Women’s Champion with a roll-up, illegally grabbing the tights to pick up the win for herself and Natalya. After the match, an enraged Naomi would attack Carmella, which brings in Natalya & Tamina as The Welcoming Committee administers a three-on-two beatdown of Naomi & Charlotte Flair. This would bring out Becky Lynch as The Welcoming Committee stops their assault to see if Becky was going to side with them or Naomi & Charlotte. “The Irish Lass Kicker” then thinks it over before appearing to join The Welcoming Committee. However, Becky would instead use James Ellsworth as a weapon, shoving Ellsworth into Tamina before attacking Natalya & Carmella, getting the better of the two women before Tamina re-enters the ring, leveling Becky with a super kick. The Welcoming Committee then tosses Naomi & Charlotte out of the ring before Carmella blasts Becky with a super kick. The Welcoming Committee then stands tall in the ring, having shown their dominance of the SmackDown Women’s Division. Amidst his recent issues with Shinsuke Nakamura, Dolph Ziggler was in action on SmackDown LIVE as “The Show Off” would go one-on-one with Sin Cara. In the end, it was Dolph Ziggler catching Sin Cara with a super kick, pinning Sin Cara to pick up the win. Then it was time for the main event as, in a rematch from Payback, SmackDown LIVE’s newest Superstar Chris Jericho would defend his newly won United States Championship against former champion Kevin Owens and, as a result of the brawl earlier in the night, AJ Styles would be banned from ringside for the match. During the match, Kevin Owens would twice survive the Walls of Jericho before Owens brings Chris Jericho to the outside, catching Jericho with a super kick before planting the champion with a DDT on the concrete floor! Owens then brings Jericho back into the ring, delivering a second super kick, but Jericho manages to kick out. Jericho then tries to surprise Owens with a roll-up, but Owens kicks out and Jericho’s roll-up would prove to be all that Jericho could muster as Owens would kick Jericho in the head, following it up with the Pop-Up Powerbomb and pinning Jericho to become the brand new United States Champion for the second time in his career! After the match, Kevin Owens would leave the ring clutching the United States Title as paramedics rush to the ring to check on Chris Jericho. This is when Kevin Owens would decide to come back into the ring with evil intentions as the new United States Champion would pick up Chris Jericho and deliver another Pop-Up Powerbomb. Owens would then pick Jericho up again, but when Owens tries for a third Pop-Up Powerbomb, Jericho just collapses in the ring. Referees then come out to get Kevin Owens out of the ring as the new United States Champion exits the ring with his prize, showing no remorse for his former best friend. The referees and paramedics then help Chris Jericho out of the ring as it’s clear that Jericho isn’t even aware of what is going on. This is when Kevin Owens would rush back down the ramp, knocking Jericho down before the champion grabs a steel chair. With the referees trying their best to stop the assault, it was clear that Kevin Owens was determined to end the career of Chris Jericho as Owens would place the steel chair around Jericho’s head before sending Jericho head-first into the ring post, leaving Jericho lying on the floor screaming in pain and holding the back of his head. As the referees and paramedics again tend to Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens walks back up the ramp, picking up his United States Title belt and walking to the back with a look of euphoria on his face, having reclaimed the United States Championship and, more importantly, potentially ending the legendary career of Chris Jericho.
