WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: May 16, 2017By Cassidy| May 17, 2017 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results Before he defends the United States Championship against AJ Styles this Sunday at Backlash, SmackDown LIVE kicks off with United States Champion Kevin Owens as, in a mockery of the man he tried to end the career of two weeks ago, Chris Jericho, the self-proclaimed “Face of America” would host his own version of The Highlight Reel. The champion says that the only list that Chris Jericho is on now is the “injured list” and that’s because of him. Owens then says that what he did to Chris Jericho is nothing compared to what he’s going to do to AJ Styles this Sunday. The United States Champion then starts to introduce his guest in French, but “The Phenomenal One” interrupts as the #1 Contender for the United States Title comes out, saying that Kevin Owens has basically been stealing everything from Chris Jericho for the past year. Styles then says that, this Sunday, he’s going to beat Kevin Owens for the United States Title and he’s going to bring it back to the “good old U.S. of A” before saying that they don’t have to wait until Backlash, they can do it right now. This brings out the #1 Contender for the WWE Title, Jinder Mahal, who’s flanked by The Singh Brothers as Jinder reveals that he was supposed to be Kevin Owens’ guest on The Highlight Reel. Jinder then vows that he will become the WWE Champion this Sunday before saying that AJ Styles will lose tonight just like Randy Orton will lose at Backlash. AJ then enters the ring, scaring Kevin Owens out of the ring before saying that they can have their match right now. With United States Champion Kevin Owens a guest on commentary, the opening match of the night would see the #1 Contender for the United States Title, AJ Styles, square off with the #1 Contender for the WWE Title, Jinder Mahal, with The Singh Brothers in his corner. During the match, one of The Singh Brothers would get on the ring apron to distract the referee, giving Kevin Owens the opening he needed to hit AJ Styles in the knee with the United States Title belt. Jinder Mahal is then quick to take advantage, hitting the Khallas and pinning AJ Styles for the win. AJ is then left hobbled in the ring as Kevin Owens has a grin on his face, having weakened the #1 Contender for the United States Title ahead of Backlash. With a match against The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at Backlash this Sunday, Breezango was in action on SmackDown LIVE as Tyler Breeze & Fandango would face The Colons. In the end, it was Fandango hitting Epico Colon with the Falcon Arrow, pinning Epico for the win. After the match, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos would come out to address Breezango, saying that they are going to take Breezango to “Uso penitentiary” this Sunday and telling the #1 Contenders that it’s not “paranoia”, it’s The Usos. SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon then makes an appearance on SmackDown LIVE to mediate the official contract signing for the 6-Woman Tag match at Backlash pitting Naomi, Charlotte Flair, & Becky Lynch against Natalya, Carmella, & Tamina, known collectively as The Welcoming Committee. The Commissioner first introduces The Welcoming Committee as Natalya, Carmella, & Tamina, along with James Ellsworth, make their way to the ring. Shane then brings out the opposition as Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi come out for the contract signing. Natalya says that Becky Lynch had her chance to join them and it’s too late for her now before Natalya signs the contract. Tamina then signs the contract as well followed by Carmella before Becky Lynch says that she can’t wait to slap the face of each and every one of them. Becky then signs the contract before Naomi vows to snatch all of The Welcoming Committee bald, signing her name to the contract. Charlotte Flair then says that, this Sunday, they are going to solve The Welcoming Committee’s problems and then she is coming for the SmackDown Women’s Title as Charlotte signs the contract as well to make the match official. After James Ellsworth adds his comments, Naomi tries to get a piece of Ellsworth before Shane McMahon breaks it up. Before they are on opposite sides in the 6-Woman Tag Match at Backlash, SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi, with Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch in her corner, would go one-on-one with Carmella, with Natalya, Tamina, & James Ellsworth in her corner, in a non-title match. During the match, James Ellsworth would pull Carmella to safety and the referee would respond by ejecting Ellsworth from ringside. Later on in the match, Natalya & Tamina would get on the ring apron and, much like James Ellsworth, they would get ejected from ringside as well. However, Natalya & Tamina would refuse to leave, instead fighting with Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch and the brawl on the outside would distract Naomi and Carmella would take advantage, rolling Naomi up, pinning the SmackDown Women’s Champion for the win. Backstage, an interview with Sami Zayn is cut short by Baron Corbin as “The Lone Wolf” attacks Sami from behind, telling Zayn that, if Sami shows up to face him at Backlash this Sunday, he’s going to put Sami down “permanently”. Then it was time for the main event as, five nights before he defends the WWE Title against Jinder Mahal at Backlash, WWE Champion Randy Orton would go one-on-one with “The Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin in a non-title match. Throughout the match, Baron Corbin would seemingly have the number of the WWE Champion, but Randy Orton is able to battle back, surprising “The Lone Wolf” with the RKO, pinning Corbin to pick up the win. After the match, Jinder Mahal would come out, saying that he is going to destroy Randy Orton’s “pride” and “future” this Sunday. With Randy Orton’s attention on Jinder Mahal, The Singh Brothers would attack Orton from behind but the WWE Champion would get the better of The Singh Brothers before Jinder Mahal blasts Orton from behind. This leads to a three-on-one assault by Jinder Mahal and The Singh Brothers, capped off with Jinder planting Orton with the Khallas. Jinder then stands tall over the fallen champion, holding the WWE Title belt in what could be a sign of things to come this Sunday at Backlash. What did you think of this week’s SmackDown LIVE?
