WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: March 7, 2017By Cassidy| March 8, 2017 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results SmackDown LIVE kicks off with SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon and SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan as management make their way to the ring. Shane brings up the controversy surrounding the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania with Daniel saying that he believes that Randy Orton deserves to be the #1 Contender and Shane stating that he believes that AJ Styles deserves to be the #1 Contender. The GM then explains his position, saying that it’s “tradition” that the winner of the Royal Rumble Match gets to compete for a World Title at WrestleMania, saying that Randy Orton won the 2017 Royal Rumble Match to earn the right to challenge for the WWE Title at WrestleMania. The Commissioner argues that there has never been a Royal Rumble Match winner before that won the Royal Rumble Match but then abdicated their title shot at WrestleMania as Shane shows Randy Orton doing just that three weeks ago. Shane explains that they had a battle royal to decide a new #1 Contender that ended in controversy so they settled that controversy last week with a one-on-one match pitting AJ Styles against Luke Harper with Styles winning the match to earn the title shot at WrestleMania. Daniel says that they thought they had the controversy settled last week, but Randy Orton’s actions sent their WrestleMania plans “up in flames”, showing Randy Orton’s torching of The Wyatt Family compound last week. Daniel again states that he thinks that Randy Orton should get the WWE Title shot at WrestleMania before both men poll the crowd for their favorite. The GM then declares that tonight will be a “must-see” episode of SmackDown LIVE as AJ Styles will go one-on-one with Randy Orton with the winner earning the right to challenge Bray Wyatt for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. The opening match of the night would see John Cena team up with his girlfriend Nikki Bella for the first time ever to face James Ellsworth and his “friend who is a girl” Carmella in a Mixed Tag Match. However, as soon as the bell rings, The Miz & Maryse make their way down to ringside, giving James Ellsworth & Carmella the early advantage as Carmella catches a distracted Nikki Bella with a super kick before The Miz & Maryse sit down to be guests on commentary. During the match, Nikki Bella would tag out to John Cena and, per the rules of a Mixed Tag Match, James Ellsworth would be forced to enter the ring to face John Cena. However, Ellsworth would refuse to face his fears until Carmella shoves Ellsworth into Cena, who takes James down. Carmella then shoves John Cena and gets leveled with a forearm from Nikki Bella for her trouble. The couple then hit simultaneous Five Knuckle Shuffles before Cena hits the Attitude Adjustment on Ellsworth while Nikki hits the Rack Attack 2.0 on Carmella. Cena & Nikki then lock in the STF on their respective opposition, making Ellsworth & Carmella tap out as Cena & Nikki pick up the win. After the match, The Miz & Maryse would pull Cena & Nikki out of the ring as The Miz sends Cena into the steel steps as Maryse sends Nikki into the ring post. The Miz & Maryse then get into the ring as The Miz says that Cena’s relationship is the “biggest lie” in the world, saying that, when you have “true love”, you don’t have her “sign a contract to be your girlfriend”. The Miz continues, saying that he and Maryse have been the “it couple” in WWE for almost a year, saying that John Cena is “emotionless”. The Miz then says that he’s found the “lottery ticket” in Nikki Bella because Nikki is as “power-hungry” as Cena is. The Miz then says that Cena & Nikki’s “plastic, fabricated lives” spits on every “real relationship” and it “stops now”. Maryse concludes by telling Nikki to “break that, bitch” before The Miz & Maryse share a kiss in the ring. After again taking out Curt Hawkins, Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose would call Baron Corbin out again. However, “The Lone Wolf” would again appear on the Tron, saying that he doesn’t come out and fight just because someone tells him to. Corbin then tells Ambrose that he needs to enjoy what he has while he has it because, when he’s ready, he is going to take “everything” from Dean Ambrose, including the Intercontinental Title. Ambrose then says that, if Corbin isn’t going to come out there, he’s going to go back there and find “The Lone Wolf”. The Intercontinental Champion then exits the ring to head to the back, but not before spiking Curt Hawkins with Dirty Deeds on the floor. Backstage, Dean Ambrose is searching for Baron Corbin when he is ambushed by “The Lone Wolf” as Corbin throws a security guard at Dean Ambrose before hitting the Intercontinental Champion in the leg with a steel pipe. Corbin then delivers a steel pipe shot to Ambrose’s mid-section before shouting, “you found me”. Baron then delivers a couple of kicks to Ambrose before placing the Intercontinental Champion under the steel forks of a nearby forklift before “The Lone Wolf” lowers the heavy steel contraption onto Dean Ambrose, choking the Intercontinental Champion! Referees and security then rush in to rescue Dean Ambrose from the predicament before calling for medical assistance. SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss and Mickie James would then make an appearance on SmackDown LIVE as the champion says that she is going to reveal her opponent for WrestleMania. Before doing that, Alexa says that her opponent isn’t going to be the injured Naomi before ruling out Nikki Bella, Carmella, and Becky Lynch as well. The champion refers to Becky as a “Chuckie doll” and saying that she’s already bored just talking about Becky Lynch. Naturally, this brings out Becky Lynch, who tells Alexa Bliss that she is going to beat Alexa and take back her SmackDown Women’s Title at WrestleMania. However, this would bring Natalya out to the ring as Natalya says that her and Alexa came to an “understanding” last week, saying that her and Alexa are “championship material” while Becky is not. Alexa argues that her and Natalya do not have an understanding before telling Natalya that she is “the worst there is, the worst there was, and the worst there ever will be”. This sparks an argument among the women before Mickie James intervenes, saying that they are all arguing over who Alexa Bliss is going to face at WrestleMania when it’s clear that it’s going to be her facing Alexa for the title at WrestleMania! This seems to perplex the SmackDown Women’s Champion, leading to Mickie saying that it was part of the “deal”. Becky then takes issue with Alexa handing Mickie a title opportunity after Becky beat Mickie twice last week. Natalya then decides to call Mickie James “ugly” and an argument again breaks out in the ring. SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan then comes out to the stage, saying that Alexa claims to be the “greatest female Superstar on the entire SmackDown roster” before the GM makes the huge announcement that, at WrestleMania, Alexa Bliss will defend the SmackDown Women’s Title against “every available woman on the SmackDown roster”! Alexa argues that Daniel Bryan can’t do that and the GM reminds the champion that he can absolutely do that because it’s his job. Daniel then announces a tag team match to take place right now pitting Becky Lynch and Natalya against Alexa Bliss and Mickie James. In an impromptu match made by SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan, “The Irish Lass Kicker” Becky Lynch would team up with Natalya to face SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss & Mickie James in tag team action. During the match, Natalya would show her true colors by taking former rival Becky Lynch out with a release German suplex. Alexa Bliss then tags herself into the match, stealing the pin from Mickie James as Alexa & Mickie pick up the win. After the match, Mickie James would respond to this by dropping Alexa Bliss with the Mick Kick! Mickie then leaves the ring as Alexa Bliss comes to, realizing that it will be every woman for herself come WrestleMania. Before facing Randy Orton in the main event to decide who will face Bray Wyatt for the WWE Championship, AJ Styles would make an appearance on SmackDown LIVE. Styles would say that he has been shown nothing but “disrespect” by Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan while Randy Orton “burns down a man’s house and gets rewarded for it”. AJ then says that he was “built” for the main event of WrestleMania and nobody is going to keep him from making WrestleMania “phenomenal”. Then it was time for the main event as “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles would go one-on-one with “The Viper” Randy Orton with the winner earning the undisputed right to challenge Bray Wyatt for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. Throughout the match, AJ Styles would work on the leg of Randy Orton before locking in the Calf Crusher, but Orton is able to get to the bottom rope to break the hold. Shortly after this, AJ Styles would set Randy Orton up for the Phenomenal Forearm and Orton would look to catch AJ out of the air with the RKO but Styles had it well scouted as AJ would stop himself from leaping into the air, resulting in Orton landing flat on his back! Styles then goes for the springboard 450 Splash but Orton moves out of the way before lifting Styles into the air and delivering the RKO, pinning Styles to pick up the win and ensure that he will be the one challenging Bray Wyatt for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania!
