WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: January 31, 2017By Cassidy| February 1, 2017 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results SmackDown LIVE starts off with the now former WWE Champion AJ Styles backstage with SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon and SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan as Styles is quick to remind Shane & Daniel that he has a contractual rematch for the WWE Championship and that he doesn’t want his rematch to be inside the Elimination Chamber. Shane & Daniel assure AJ Styles that he will get his one-on-one rematch for the WWE Title but now they are focused on the next defense of the WWE Championship in less than two weeks inside the Elimination Chamber. AJ expresses his curiosity over who will be the five challengers joining champion John Cena in the Elimination Chamber Match. Shane informs AJ that Styles will be one of the six men in the Chamber, along with defending champion John Cena, Bray Wyatt, Baron Corbin, The Miz, and Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose. As if on cue, Dean Ambrose enters the office just long enough to hear that he will be in the Elimination Chamber Match before the Intercontinental Champion is on his way out. However, AJ Styles tells Ambrose to “get out” and Ambrose tells AJ to not get “snippy” with him before the Intercontinental Champion says that he and AJ have some “unfinished business”. Ambrose then challenges Styles to a match tonight and, despite AJ’s reluctance, Shane McMahon makes the match official for later tonight. After defeating AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble in an incredible title match to win his record sixteenth World Title, SmackDown LIVE officially gets underway with the new WWE Champion John Cena. After declaring that “the champ is here”, John Cena tells AJ Styles that he is “sorry” before saying that Styles is an “elite level Superstar” who brings out the best in him. “The Champ” then says that the Royal Rumble was a history-making occasion before saying that it’s not time to drop confetti and he is going to “celebrate” by doing what he does best. Cena then declares that SmackDown LIVE is the place to be, he’s the “man to beat”, and, if you “want some, come get some”. This brings out The Wyatt Family as Bray Wyatt leads the man who won the Royal Rumble Match to earn a shot at the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, Randy Orton. Bray says that the more things change, the more they stay exactly the same, saying that the “hands of fate” have brought the WWE Championship back to John Cena. Bray then says that, in less than two weeks, Cena will be “trapped like a rat” inside the Elimination Chamber. Wyatt then vows that he will leave the Elimination Chamber as the new WWE Champion and the world will have finally entered the “era of Wyatt”. Bray continues, saying that things are “changing” and, if Cena doesn’t believe him, then Cena can ask the man who won the Royal Rumble Match, Randy Orton. Orton then addresses his old rival, saying that, if by some miracle, Cena survives the Elimination Chamber as the WWE Champion, he will be “waiting” for Cena at WrestleMania. “The Viper” then says that, one way or another, they are going to end this “vicious cycle” because The Wyatt Family are going to set the WWE Championship “free”. Wyatt & Orton then make their way down to ringside, surrounding the ring as John Cena prepares himself for a fight. However, just as Wyatt & Orton enter the ring, Luke Harper appears in the ring, but, after attacking Bray Wyatt during the Royal Rumble Match, it’s clear that Harper is now his own man as Harper stands with John Cena as Wyatt & Orton retreat. This brings out SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon to make a unique tag team match, announcing that Bray Wyatt & Randy Orton will face the team of John Cena and Luke Harper! Following a confrontation moments earlier, new WWE Champion John Cena would team with former Wyatt Family member Luke Harper to face Bray Wyatt and 2017 Royal Rumble Match winner Randy Orton on SmackDown LIVE. During the match, it would become clear that Luke Harper could not bring himself to attack Bray Wyatt as Harper would refuse to compete against Bray. Later on in the match, Bray Wyatt would try to stand between Luke Harper and Randy Orton but Harper would catch Orton with a right hand. Bray would then set Harper up for Sister Abigail before Harper reverses, trying to hit Sister Abigail himself. Harper would then catch Orton with a big boot but would walk right into Sister Abigail by Bray Wyatt. John Cena then lifts Bray Wyatt up for the Attitude Adjustment, but Orton makes the save, hitting Cena with the RKO, pinning the WWE Champion to pick up a huge win for The Wyatt Family in what could be a sign of things to come at WrestleMania. With James Ellsworth in her corner, “The Princess of Staten Island” Carmella would go one-on-one with local competitor Delilah Dawson on SmackDown LIVE. During the match, James Ellsworth would trip up the local competitor, allowing Carmella to lock in the Code of Silence, making Delilah Dawson tap out to pick up the win. Friends turned rivals would square off on SmackDown LIVE as “The Lucha Dragon” Kalisto would go one-on-one with Dolph Ziggler. In the end, it was Dolph Ziggler connecting with the super kick to Kalisto, pinning the high flyer for the win. After the match, Dolph Ziggler would try to humiliate Kalisto by removing his mask, but Apollo Crews would make the save as Dolph would quickly leave the ring, escaping into the crowd. In a mash-up of feuds, SmackDown LIVE would see Naomi team up with Becky Lynch to face SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss and Mickie James in tag team action. During the match, Becky Lynch would tackle Mickie James to the outside, leaving it down to Naomi and Alexa Bliss with Naomi hitting the split-legged moonsault, pinning the SmackDown Women’s Champion for the second time this week to pick up the win for herself and Becky Lynch. Tired of waiting for a tag team to step up to face them, SmackDown Tag Team Champions American Alpha would appear on SmackDown LIVE to issue an open challenge to any tag team in the back and this challenge would be answered by familiar rivals in The Usos. However, as American Alpha and The Usos go face-to-face in the ring, The Ascension also answer the challenge before The Vaudevillains come out as well as Breezango and former tag team champions Heath Slater & Rhyno! However, will all these teams clamoring for a shot at the tag titles, a massive brawl would break out between the six teams as referees struggle to try and restore order to no avail. Eventually, the fight would end with American Alpha and Heath Slater & Rhyno left standing in the ring. Then it was time for the main event as, twelve nights before they compete in the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match, a rivalry would be renewed on SmackDown LIVE as “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles would go one-on-one with Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose in a non-title match with The Miz a guest on commentary. During the match, Dean Ambrose is about to dive onto AJ Styles on the outside when another Elimination Chamber Match participant, Baron Corbin, comes out to be on commentary as well. During the match, Baron Corbin had heard enough from The Miz as Corbin would leave commentary to confront The Miz, sparking a fight between the two. The Miz would try to escape into the ring, but Corbin would grab the leg of The Miz. This would keep the referee occupied and Dean Ambrose would remedy the situation by diving out of the ring onto Baron Corbin, sending “The Lone Wolf” careening over the announce table. Ambrose then tosses The Miz into the barricade before heading back into the ring, walking right into the Styles Clash as AJ Styles pins the Intercontinental Champion to pick up the win. After the match, The Miz would pick up the scraps, planting Dean Ambrose with the Skull Crushing Finale. Baron Corbin then grabs The Miz, planting “The A-Lister” with the End of Days before “The Lone Wolf” gives Dean Ambrose the same treatment, hitting the End of Days on the Intercontinental Champion! This leaves Baron Corbin standing in the ring as “The Lone Wolf” stares down AJ Styles on the stage. What did you think of this week’s SmackDown LIVE? Post your comments in the box below.
