WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: January 10, 2017By Cassidy| January 11, 2017 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results Despite the best efforts of The Miz & Maryse, last week’s SmackDown LIVE saw Dean Ambrose overcome the couple’s combined effort to defeat The Miz to win his second Intercontinental Title, SmackDown LIVE kicks off with the brand new Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose as “The Lunatic Fringe” would host The Ambrose Asylum. The Intercontinental Champion starts off by making the announcement that he is the first champion to announce his entry into the Royal Rumble Match in three weeks! As Ambrose is about to introduce his guest, his guest decides to jump the gun as former champion The Miz, along with his wife Maryse, makes his way to the ring. The Miz says that, every day that Ambrose holds the Intercontinental Title, it “taints” the integrity of the Intercontinental Championship and, now, Ambrose is going to “taint the integrity” of the Royal Rumble Match. This leads The Miz to announce that he too will be entering the Royal Rumble Match! The Miz then accuses Dean Ambrose of stealing the Intercontinental Title, pointing out that Ambrose “coerced” the referee when the match should have ended in a disqualification. The Miz continues, saying that, before he wraps Dean Ambrose up in endless legal battles, he is giving Ambrose the opportunity to do the “right thing” right now and hand over the Intercontinental Championship. The new champion admits that he does have something that belongs to The Miz and he deserves to “have it back”. However, Ambrose wasn’t talking about the Intercontinental Championship as Ambrose gives The Miz his very own Participation Award, the same award that The Miz gave to Dean Ambrose a few weeks ago! The Miz responds by throwing the award in Dean Ambrose’s face before attacking the new Intercontinental Champion, beating Ambrose down before holding Ambrose for Maryse to slap him, but Ambrose ducks out of the way and Maryse inadvertently slaps her husband! Ambrose then spikes The Miz with Dirty Deeds, handing the Participation Award to Maryse and leaving the ring as Maryse throws the award down before checking on her husband. Backstage, Nikki Bella is on her way to the ring when she is ambushed by Natalya. Natalya would knock Nikki down before tossing her into a nearby garage door, leaving Nikki Bella down and holding her knee just moments before her scheduled match against Natalya. Moments after ambushing Nikki Bella backstage, Natalya would make her way to the ring for her scheduled match against Nikki Bella. Despite some obvious trouble with her left leg, Nikki would make a beeline for the ring, attacking Natalya before the match can even begin, sparking a brawl between the bitter rivals that spills to the outside. Natalya would manage to get the better of Nikki, sending Bella back into the ring as the brawl continues. Natalya then tries to escape, but Nikki catches up to Natalya, bringing Natalya back into the ring. Additional referees then come out to break it up, but Nikki breaks free, attacking Natalya again. With Nikki’s back turned, Natalya would manage to chop block the injured left leg of Nikki. Natalya then knocks Nikki to the outside, locking in the Sharpshooter on Nikki, doing her best to cripple Nikki before referees are able to get Natalya to break the hold. Backstage, Dolph Ziggler is interviewed about why he super kicked Kalisto last week and why he got into a fight in the locker room with Apollo Crews, but “The Show Off” would refuse to comment as Dolph walks away from the interview. After getting unexplainably attacked by Dolph Ziggler last week, Kalisto would be looking for payback as “The Lucha Dragon” would go one-on-one with Dolph Ziggler on SmackDown LIVE. At the end of a back-and-forth match, it was Kalisto surprising Dolph Ziggler with a crucifix roll-up, securing the three-count to pick up the win. After the match, Dolph Ziggler would take his frustration out on Kalisto, taking the high-flyer down with a clothesline before hammering Kalisto with right hands. Dolph then appears conflicted as he leaves the ring before Ziggler decides to get back into the ring with a steel chair, delivering back-to-back chair shots to the back of Kalisto. However, as Dolph walks up the ramp, he is confronted by another victim of Dolph’s frustration, Apollo Crews. Apollo would initially get the better of the fight but once Crews tries to get into the ring, Dolph would catch Crews. Ziggler then grabs the chair again, driving into the mid-section of Apollo and following it up with a pair of chair shots to the back. Dolph then sees Kalisto attempting to get to his feet and decides to waffle Kalisto with another chair shot to the back. Ziggler then finally leaves the ring, leaving the destruction of Kalisto and Apollo Crews in his wake. The Wyatt Family would then descend upon SmackDown LIVE as the mysterious trio would get their rematch for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles as American Alpha would make their first defense of the tag titles against The Wyatt Family’s Bray Wyatt & Randy Orton, with Luke Harper in their corner. During the match, Luke Harper gets on the ring apron to distract Jason Jordan, allowing Bray Wyatt to take advantage of the match before tagging in Randy Orton. Later on in the match, Luke Harper would again get on the ring apron, distracting the referee long enough for Orton to catch Chad Gable with a thumb to the eye. Orton then goes for his patented DDT to Gable, but “The Viper” inadvertently knocks Harper off of the ring apron in the process! Orton then spikes Gable with the DDT before sizing Gable up for the RKO but Harper would get on the ring apron again, this time drawing the attention of both the referee and Randy Orton and Chad Gable would take advantage of the distraction, rolling Orton up and scoring the three-count to successfully retain the SmackDown Tag Team Titles! As American Alpha celebrate their successful title defense, Randy Orton is left seething in the ring before Luke Harper gets in the ring and into the face of “The Viper”. Harper then shoves Orton before Bray Wyatt gets in the middle of his two disciples and Orton tries to work his way around Bray to get to Harper before Harper tries to catch Orton with a side kick but accidentally kicks Bray right in the face! Orton and Harper then stare at their downed leader before an angry Bray Wyatt gets back to his feet, getting in the face of Randy Orton before getting in the face of Luke Harper as well. Bray then leaves the ring in a huff, followed shortly by Luke Harper, leaving Randy Orton alone in the ring. With James Ellsworth in her corner, Carmella was in action on SmackDown LIVE as “The Princess of Staten Island” went one-on-one with local competitor CJ Lunde. In the end, it was James Ellsworth’s involvement that would allow Carmella to take advantage as Carmella locks in the Code of Silence on CJ Lunde, making Lunde tap out to pick up the win. Then it was time for the main event as, with WWE Champion AJ Styles a guest on commentary, the #1 Contender for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble, John Cena, would compete for the first time since No Mercy in October as the fifteen-time former World Champion would go one-on-one with “The Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin for the first time ever. In the end, it was John Cena hitting Baron Corbin with the Attitude Adjustment, pinning “The Lone Wolf” to pick up the win. After the match, AJ Styles would get on the announce table, holding up the WWE Title as John Cena celebrates his victory. What did you think of this week’s SmackDown LIVE?
