WWE SmackDown LIVE Results: December 20, 2016By Cassidy| December 21, 2016 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results The last SmackDown LIVE before Christmas kicks off with a WWE Championship match as, after two weeks of being unable to get his title match, James Ellsworth would challenge AJ Styles for the WWE Championship! However, the title match would be over almost as quickly as it began as AJ Styles blocks No Chin Music before hitting James Ellsworth with a flurry of moves, capped off with a forearm, easily pinning Ellsworth to successfully retain the WWE Championship. After the match, AJ Styles was determined to make sure James Ellsworth was out of his life for good as the champion savagely bounces Ellsworth face-first off of the second rope before bringing Ellsworth to the outside and tossing Ellsworth into the front of the announce table. Styles then drops Ellsworth face-first on the steel steps before exposing the steel frame of the ring, sending Ellsworth face-first into the exposed steel. AJ then catapults Ellsworth with Ellsworth’s head snapping back from the impact of his chin into the steel! The champion then suplexes James Ellsworth into the barricade. As EMT’s tend to James Ellsworth on the outside, AJ Styles says that what he just did to Ellsworth was a long time coming before saying that he’s looking ahead to 2017, saying that he doesn’t have to ask Santa for everything because he already has it “all” including the WWE Championship. This brings out the #1 Contender for the WWE Championship, Dolph Ziggler, who reminds AJ Styles that he’s the next one who’s getting a shot at the WWE Title. Dolph comments that it took AJ four attempts to finally beat James Ellsworth and AJ responds by saying that he only needs one shot to beat Ziggler. Dolph then says that he “went through hell” at No Mercy to keep his career intact and win the Intercontinental Title, so AJ can imagine what he will do to win the WWE Title. Baron Corbin then comes out to the ring and, as AJ Styles leaves the ring, “The Lone Wolf” says that he should be the one challenging Styles for the WWE Title, calling Dolph “little man”. Ziggler tells Corbin that he “earned” his shot at the WWE Title and Baron fires back, saying that the only reason that Dolph became the #1 Contender last week was because he wasn’t there. Corbin then says that Dolph “steals” opportunities and “wastes them”. Corbin then cheapshots Dolph and, while Ziggler tries to fight back, “The Lone Wolf” is quick to catch Ziggler with the End of Days, leaving Dolph laid out in the ring! After defeating The Miz at Tribute to the Troops last week, SmackDown LIVE would see Apollo Crews challenge The Miz, with Maryse in his corner, for the Intercontinental Championship. During the match, Maryse would get on the ring apron and was about to attack Apollo Crews behind the referee’s back, but the referee turns around just in time and, upon seeing Maryse’s intent to interfere, the referee ejects Maryse from ringside! Shortly after this, The Miz narrowly avoids making contact with the referee and, in the brief time that the referee’s back is turned, The Miz sneaks in a thumb to the eye, following it up with the Skull Crushing Finale, pinning Apollo Crews to successfully retain the Intercontinental Title. After the match, Renee Young enters the ring to interview The Miz, saying that The Miz let his “obsession” with Dean Ambrose get the better of him last week when he cost Dean Ambrose a shot at the WWE Title. However, The Miz is quick to make the interview personal, saying they should talk about Renee Young’s “obsession” with Dean Ambrose! The Intercontinental Champion then takes it a step further, saying that Renee is the one “sleeping with” Ambrose! Naturally, this upsets Renee, who slaps The Miz across the face before the interviewer storms out of the ring, having had her personal life exposed by The Miz. With accusations abound about her attacking Nikki Bella at Survivor Series last month, Natalya would make her way to the ring before asking for Nikki Bella to come to the ring. Nikki makes her way to the ring, but Carmella is quick to make her way to the ring, as well, saying that she just wants to see how Natalya “weasels” her way out of things this time. Nikki asks Carmella how she knows that Carmella wasn’t the one behind the attack, but Carmella again argues that she would be bragging about it if she was the one responsible. Carmella then tells Nikki that Nikki needs to stop daydreaming about the “Saturday Night Live after party” and realize that Natalya is a “liar”. Carmella then asks if some of Nikki’s “silicone” leaked into her brain. Natalya takes offense to this, saying that Carmella can’t talk to her friend like that. Carmella then tells Natalya “enough with the act” before saying that Natalya told her that someone needed to teach Nikki a “lesson”. Carmella continues, saying that Natalya was crying on her shoulder because Nikki was getting all the attention and that Natalya told her that the only reason The Bella Twins made it to WWE because “nobody cared” about them when they tried to make it on their own. Nikki then asks Natalya if she really said that and Natalya responds by saying that it is something that she said to Carmella “in private” before calling Carmella a “dirty little Staten Island snitch”! Nikki then asks Natalya if she was the one who attacked her at Survivor Series, but Natalya ignores Nikki’s question and tells Carmella that she is the one who “caused all of this”. Natalya then makes a beeline for Carmella, chasing Carmella up to the staging area and tossing Carmella into some of the Christmas decorations set up on the stage before Carmella flees to the back. Natalya then exposes the truth, telling Nikki “I did it, you bitch” before saying that she has “always despised” Nikki Bella! Natalya explains that she is “wrestling royalty” and Nikki is not, saying that Nikki and her sister got everything in WWE because they’re “beautiful”. Natalya continues, saying that Nikki got all the magazine covers and the Total Divas spinoff show that she should have gotten. Natalya then says that her cat has more “charisma” than Nikki Bella before saying that Nikki may be beautiful but she is a “nothing” and that is why John Cena will “never” marry her! “The Lunatic Fringe” was then in action on SmackDown LIVE as Dean Ambrose would go one-on-one with SmackDown Tag Team Champion and Wyatt Family member Luke Harper, with Bray Wyatt & Randy Orton in his corner. During the match, Dean Ambrose would go for a dive to the outside on Luke Harper, but Harper would get out of the way and Ambrose would instead dive on Bray Wyatt & Randy Orton, taking Wyatt & Orton out. Harper would nearly put Ambrose away with a sitout powerbomb, but “The Lunatic Fringe” would kick out before Ambrose manages to catch Harper with a roll-up, securing the three-count for the win. However, Bray Wyatt & Randy Orton are quick to ambush Ambrose, beating Ambrose down before Randy Orton plants “The Lunatic Fringe” with the RKO. The Wyatt Family then stands tall in the ring, lording over the fallen Dean Ambrose. The Wyatt Family then disappears as Dean Ambrose struggles to try and pull himself to his feet. This is when The Miz & Maryse would decide to make their way to the ring as the Intercontinental Champion preys on Dean Ambrose, planting Ambrose with the Skull Crushing Finale in the middle of the ring. After a confrontation with SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan where the GM would inform her that, not only will she defend the title against Becky Lynch in a rematch on next week’s SmackDown LIVE, she would also have to compete tonight or forfeit her SmackDown Women’s Title! Having no choice but to compete, Alexa Bliss would face a masked competitor by the name of La Luchadora in a non-title match. Alexa Bliss would have a fair amount of trouble with the local competitor before La Luchadora locks in the Dis-Arm-Her on Alexa Bliss, making the SmackDown Women’s Champion tap out to pick up the upset win! However, after the match, La Luchadora would remove her mask to reveal that she was Becky Lynch the entire time as Becky scores a non-title win over the champion ahead of their title match next week! With “Shooter” star Ryan Phillippe a guest on commentary, SmackDown LIVE would see Mojo Rawley go one-on-one with Curt Hawkins. In the end, it was Mojo Rawley catching Curt Hawkins with a running right hand in the corner, pinning Hawkins for the win. After the match, Mojo Rawley would invite Ryan Phillippe into the ring as the actor celebrates with Rawley. Then it was time for the main event as, following a confrontation earlier in the night, “The Show Off” Dolph Ziggler would go one-on-one with “The Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin with WWE Champion AJ Styles a guest on commentary and, per the orders of Daniel Bryan, if Baron Corbin wins, he will challenge AJ Styles for the WWE Championship instead of Dolph Ziggler next week! During the match, the action would spill to the outside where Baron Corbin tosses Dolph Ziggler into the barricade before picking Dolph up and tossing Ziggler right into AJ Styles! Corbin then picks Ziggler up before Dolph fires back with a super kick to “The Lone Wolf” but, as this is happening, the referee reaches his ten-count as the match ends in a double count-out. AJ Styles then gets to his feet, grabbing a steel chair and hitting Dolph Ziggler with a chair shot to the back before doing the same to Baron Corbin! The WWE Champion then continues to wear both Superstars out with the chair, delivering a few more chair shots. This brings out Daniel Bryan, who announces that next week’s SmackDown LIVE will now feature a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship as AJ Styles will defend the title against both Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin!
