WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 ResultsBy Cassidy| October 31, 2016 WWE PPVs Previous Page Detailed Results Appropriately enough, WWE Hell in a Cell would kick off with a Hell in a Cell match as, for the first time in history, the United States Championship would be defended inside the demonic structure as “The Bulgarian Brute” Rusev would step inside Hell in a Cell for the first time in his career to challenge Roman Reigns for the United States Title. It wouldn’t take long in the match for the Hell in a Cell structure to come into play as Roman Reigns would knock Rusev off of the ring apron, sending “The Bulgarian Brute” into the steel mesh. The champion would then repeatedly send the challenger face-first into the steel before dropping Rusev with an uppercut. Rusev then tries to mount a comeback, but it’s cut short by Reigns, who sends Rusev shoulder-first into the steel steps. Roman then pulls a table out from under the ring before Rusev mounts a comeback, sending Reigns into the Cell before running at the champion, using himself to squash Reigns against the steel. Sporting a cut on his arm from his first collision with the Cell, Rusev would bring Roman Reigns back into the ring. Rusev then hits a series of splashes in the corner before the champion is able to move out of the way, halting the challenger’s momentum. Roman then strikes with repeated clotheslines to “The Bulgarian Brute” in the corner, following it up with a boot to the face. The champion then sizes Rusev up for the Superman Punch, but Rusev is quick to roll out of the ring and, when Reigns goes for the Drive-By, Rusev catches Roman with a clothesline. Rusev then sends Reigns shoulder-first into the steel steps before making Roman taste the steel again. “The Bulgarian Brute” then picks up the steel steps, ramming the steps into the face of the champion! Rusev then follows this up with a second shot to the head with the steel steps before tossing the steps in the ring. Now back in the ring, Rusev places the steel steps on the top turnbuckle with the intention of sending the champion face-first into the steps, but Reigns is able to fight back, sending Rusev out of the ring. On the outside, Rusev would pick Roman up, ramming Reigns head-first into the Cell before Rusev grabs a kendo stick from under the ring. However, Roman would catch Rusev with the Drive-By before using the kendo stick himself, viciously wearing “The Bulgarian Brute” down with kendo stick shots to the back and chest of the challenger. Rusev then catches Reigns coming into the ring, tying the champion up in the ropes, ensuring that Roman is helpless as he wears Roman out with repeated kendo stick shots. Roman is then somehow able to break free and level Rusev with the clothesline, nearly putting Rusev away. Both men then get back to their feet, trading shots and going counter-for-counter before Roman is able to score with the Superman Punch, but Rusev kicks out. The champion then goes for the Spear, but Rusev catches Reigns with a kick to the face, following it up by sending Reigns face-first into the steel steps on the top rope, but Roman just manages to kick out before the three! “The Bulgarian Brute” then locks in the Accolade on Reigns, but Roman is able to slip out of the submission before Rusev catches Roman with another kick to the face. Rusev then grabs a thick steel chain from under the ring, wrapping the chain around his fist, but Roman fights back, hammering the challenger with right hands. However, after the champion brings Rusev back into the ring, “The Bulgarian Brute” grabs the chain, using it on the mid-section of Reigns before wearing Roman down with chain shots to the back. The challenger then brings the bottom half of the steel steps into the ring, sending Reigns shoulder-first into the steps before scoring with the Bulgarian Boot, but the champion kicks out again. Rusev then lays the champion face-first on the steel steps, grabbing the chain and using the chain to wrench back on the face and head of Reigns in a punishing version of the Accolade. Somehow, Roman is able to power out of the Accolade, planting “The Bulgarian Brute” on the steel steps with a Samoan Drop! The champion then follows this up by running up the steel steps, blasting Rusev with the Spear, finally able to secure the three-count to successfully retain the United States Title inside Hell in a Cell. A rivalry between two of the up-and-coming Superstars in the RAW Women’s Division would go one-on-one at WWE Hell in a Cell as Bayley squared off with Dana Brooke. Throughout the match, Dana Brooke would target the injured right shoulder of Bayley, but Bayley would fight through the pain as the former NXT Women’s Champion would score with the Bayley-to-Belly, pinning Dana Brooke for the win. In tag team action at WWE Hell in a Cell, Enzo & Big Cass would be out for revenge against the team that ambushed them a few weeks ago, Gallows & Anderson. In the end, it was Gallows & Anderson hitting Enzo Amore with the Magic Killer as Karl Anderson pins Enzo to pick up the win for the team. Then it was time for the second of three Hell in a Cell matches as the WWE Universal Championship would be on the line inside the Cell as Kevin Owens would step into Hell in a Cell for the first time in his career to defend the WWE Universal Title against Seth Rollins. Rollins would start the match in a ferocious manner, pummeling Owens outside the ring, sending the champion into the Cell before the match returns to the ring as Rollins gains the early momentum in the match. Seth then pulls a table from under the ring, setting it up at ringside. The challenger then gets back into the ring and this is when Owens would target the weakened back of Rollins that the champion weakened on RAW with a powerbomb on the ring apron. Owens would send Rollins back-first into the corner before using all of his body weight for back-to-back sentons to the back of the challenger. Owens then rips the athletic tape off of the back of Rollins before the champion sends Seth face-first into the Cell. Back in the ring, Kevin Owens would continue to methodically wear down Seth Rollins before the challenger mounts a comeback, but the champion is quick to toss Seth out of the ring as Rollins soars face-first into the steel! Owens then sends Rollins face-first into the Cell a couple more times before bringing the challenger back into the ring. Owens then hits the Cannonball in the corner before bringing Rollins to the outside, hitting a second Cannonball, this time compacting Seth between himself and the Cell! The action then returns to the ring where both men go counter-for-counter with Rollins hitting a kick to the face, but Owens fires back with a kick of his own and Rollins hits an enziguiri before Owens levels Rollins with a clothesline! The champion is then the first one to his feet and Owens exits the ring, pulling a second table from under the ring, setting the table up by propping it up between the ring apron and the Cell! Owens and Rollins then battle on the ring apron before Rollins is able to hit the champion with a sickening suplex on the ring apron! The challenger then looks to dive off of the top rope, but Owens exits the ring, pulling a fire extinguisher from under the ring. The champion then hits Rollins in the mid-section before Owens appears to accidentally spray the referee in the eyes with the extinguisher. However, this proves to be the plan all along as a second referee would come out to check on his colleague, having to open the Cell to get in. This gives Chris Jericho the opening to rush out, bringing the referee into the Cell with him before locking the door of the structure, trapping Seth Rollins with both Owens and Jericho! Seth would send Jericho off of the ring apron into the Cell before returning his focus to the champion, hitting his flying knee on the champion. Jericho then saves Owens from the Pedigree but Seth plants Jericho with the Pedigree instead. Owens then looks for a powerbomb to the outside, but Rollins counters before mustering all of his strength to lift Owens up, delivering a hellacious powerbomb to the outside, sending Owens crashing through both of the tables set up at ringside! Seth then brings Owens back into the ring, hitting the frog splash on the champion, but just when it looks like Rollins had won, Jericho pulls the referee out of the ring at the last possible second. Rollins then turns his focus to Jericho on the outside, pummeling Jericho as “Y2J” tries to crawl away from the challenger before Seth gets a hold of Jericho, taking Jericho out with a powerbomb into the Cell. Seth then heads back into the ring where Owens would take advantage of his best friend’s distraction, hitting Rollins with the Pop-Up Powerbomb, but the challenger is able to kick out! Owens then pummels Rollins as Jericho brings a steel chair into the ring as Owens wears Rollins out with chair shots to the back. Jericho then brings a second chair into the ring as Rollins fights back, but Owens would spike Seth with a DDT on a steel chair. The champion then sets up both chairs in the ring, driving Rollins through both of the chairs with a vicious powerbomb, pinning Seth to successfully retain the WWE Universal Championship inside Hell in a Cell with a major assist from Chris Jericho. After the match, Jericho would decide to take advantage of the helpless Seth Rollins, hitting a barely conscious Rollins with the Codebreaker, leaving Seth in a heap as Jericho joins Kevin Owens on the stage before the best friends head to the back. After exhibiting extreme desperation to become the Cruiserweight Champion, even asking the champion to let him win, the Cruiserweight Championship would be on the line at WWE Hell in a Cell as Brian Kendrick would challenge T.J. Perkins for the title. Towards the end of a back-and-forth match, Brian Kendrick would lock in his Captain’s Hook submission on T.J. Perkins, but the champion was able to counter, nearly pinning Kendrick. TJP then locks in the knee bar on Kendrick, but the challenger is able to get to the bottom rope. Kendrick then looks for Sliced Bread #2, but Perkins is able to avoid the move as the challenger appears to hurt his leg. This proves to be a ruse by the veteran as T.J. Perkins decides to halt his offense to check on his former friend and Kendrick would take full advantage, catching the champion with a headbutt before locking in the Captain’s Hook again and, this time, Perkins had no choice but to tap out as Brian Kendrick becomes the brand new Cruiserweight Champion! The RAW Tag Team Titles would then be up for grabs at WWE Hell in a Cell as, on their 434th day as the champions, The New Day’s Big E & Xavier Woods, with Kofi Kingston in their corner, would defend the RAW Tag Team Titles against the dysfunctional team of Cesaro & Sheamus. During the match, Sheamus would look for the Brogue Kick, but would accidentally take his partner Cesaro out with the move! However, “The Celtic Warrior” would do his best to correct his mistake as Sheamus would roll Cesaro back into the ring shortly after this to avoid losing by count-out. Then, as Cesaro has Xavier Woods locked in the Sharpshooter, Sheamus would use Xavier’s trombone to knock Big E off of the ring apron. This is when the controversy of the match would take place as, on the outside, Kofi Kingston would get involved in the match, hitting Sheamus with Trouble In Paradise. The referee would spot Kofi’s interference and would ring the bell for the disqualification just as Xavier was tapping out to the Sharpshooter. This means that Cesaro & Sheamus win the match by disqualification, keeping the RAW Tag Team Titles with The New Day. Then it was time for the historic main event as, for the first time in history, two women would compete inside Hell in a Cell as “The Boss” Sasha Banks would walk into her hometown of Boston to defend the RAW Women’s Title against “The Queen” Charlotte Flair inside the demonic structure. After both Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair make their extravagant and special entrances to the ring, the Hell in a Cell structure would be slowly lowered for the main event. However, the challenger would jump the gun as Charlotte Flair would cheap shot Sasha Banks before the match can even begin, knocking the champion out of the ring as the lowering of the Cell is halted. Charlotte would then try to send Sasha into the barricade, but the champion would counter sending the challenger over the barricade. Sasha and Charlotte would then brawl in the crowd before “The Boss” brings Charlotte back to the ringside area. The champion then exposes the German announce table before Charlotte fights back. With the Cell now all the way lowered, both champion and challenger would try to climb the Hell in a Cell structure, but Sasha would knock Charlotte to the floor before Charlotte grabs the champion, driving Sasha through the announce table with a vicious powerbomb! Charlotte then tries to prey on Sasha, but the referees keep Charlotte back so that they can check on the champion. However, “The Boss” would repeatedly refuse help from the referees, shoving the officials away while struggling to even stay on her feet. As the referees keep Charlotte back, EMT’s are called to ringside as they prepare the stretcher for the champion. As a neck brace is placed on Sasha, Charlotte shows no concern for her rival, wanting to be awarded the title. With Sasha visibly in a great amount of pain, referees and EMT’s load Sasha onto the stretcher as Charlotte continues to taunt her injured adversary. The announcement is then made that Sasha Banks is unable to compete, but before the announcement can be finished that would award the RAW Women’s Title to Charlotte by forfeit, Sasha somehow manages to pull herself off of the stretcher in a scene eerily similar to what happened in the Hell in a Cell match between The Undertaker and Mick Foley in 1998. Motivated by her unparalleled desire to be the RAW Women’s Champion, Sasha Banks would fight her way back to her feet, even slapping and stomping on an EMT! The champion then gets in the Hell in a Cell structure and orders the referee to lock the Cell door before shoving the referee in charge of the match and ordering him to ring the bell! The referee does just that and, bad back and all, “The Boss” would pull Charlotte out of the ring as the match finally gets underway. The challenger would desperately try to break the Cell door open and, after discovering that escape is not possible for her, Charlotte sends Sasha face-first into the ring post before using a monkey flip to send “The Boss” back-first into the Cell. Back in the ring, Charlotte would continue to target the back of the champion, suplexing Sasha into the corner. Sasha then manages to lock in the Bank Statement, but Charlotte is able to power out, dumping the champion onto the ring apron. The challenger then rolls Sasha back into the ring before grabbing a steel chair from under the ring. “The Boss” then battles back with a pair of baseball slides that sends Charlotte into the Cell before diving to the outside, sending Charlotte into the Cell again. Sasha then brings Charlotte back into the ring, setting up the steel chair before both Superstars try to send the other face-first into the chair. Charlotte then wears Sasha down with chops in the corner, taking the time to gloat and this would give the champion the time she needed to mount a comeback, beating Charlotte down in the corner before sending Charlotte face-first onto the steel chair! “The Boss” then repeatedly bounces the face of Charlotte off of the chair before Charlotte is able to counter, delivering a heinous backbreaker, slamming the injured back of the champion right on the steel chair! The champion would manage to kick out before Charlotte drags Sasha to the corner, trying to break “The Boss” in half by bending her back around the ring post. However, Sasha is able to fight out and, when Charlotte tries to launch the champion into the Cell, Sasha catches herself before leaping onto Charlotte with the double knees to the face! Sasha then twice sends Charlotte into the Cell before running at Charlotte and using her knees to send Charlotte into the Cell twice more! Back in the ring, Sasha would pay homage to her hero Eddie Guerrero, hitting Charlotte with the Three Amigos! “The Boss” then climbs to the top rope, hitting a frog splash on Charlotte, but the challenger would manage to kick out. Charlotte then avoids the Bank Statement, but Sasha would place the challenger in the corner for her signature double knees to the mid-section. However, the champion would insist on additional punishment, putting a steel chair underneath Charlotte before delivering the double knees to Charlotte, squashing the mid-section of the challenger, but Charlotte kicks out again. Charlotte then exits the ring and, when Sasha tries to follow, Charlotte smashes the champion face-first on the steel steps! Charlotte then sets up a table at ringside before heading to the top rope to meet Sasha. Charlotte would then try to superplex Sasha through the table, but “The Boss” would fight back, knocking Charlotte off of the ring apron and onto the table as the table cracks, but doesn’t completely break. The champion then rolls Charlotte back into the ring, attempting a pinfall, but Charlotte kicks out again. With a look of malice and determination on her face, “The Boss” would pull a new table out from under the ring, but as the champion is putting the table in the ring, Charlotte uses the table as a weapon, shoving the table into the throat of Sasha, sending Sasha into the Cell! Charlotte then sets the table up in the ring, waiting for Sasha before taking the champion down with a big boot. Charlotte then locks in the Figure-Four on Sasha, but before the challenger can bridge into the Figure-Eight, Sasha gets a hold of the steel chair, hitting Charlotte in the hip with the chair to force Charlotte to break the hold. The two weary combatants then battle back to their feet, only to knock each other down again. Sasha and Charlotte then battle back to their feet again as Charlotte catches Sasha with two backbreakers and a side slam, furthering the punishment of the already injured back of the champion. Sasha would kick out again and Charlotte would put Sasha on the table set up in the ring before Charlotte climbs to the top rope with the intent of hitting a moonsault on the champion, but “The Boss” would manage to roll off of the table. Sasha then pulls the table to the opposite corner, intending to powerbomb the challenger through the table, but Sasha’s back would give out. Charlotte is then quick to take advantage, twice hurling the champion onto the table before hitting Sasha with Natural Selection, securing the three-count to become the new RAW Women’s Champion for the third time in her career!
