WWE SmackDown Results: May 19, 2016By Cassidy| May 20, 2016 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results SmackDown kicks off with Intercontinental Champion The Miz and his wife Maryse and Sami Zayn as guests on commentary as The Miz explains that the scheduled edition of Miz TV has been “cancelled” because of the disrespect shown to him and his wife. Meanwhile, the opening match of the night would see the other half of the Fatal 4-Way Match for the Intercontinental Championship at Extreme Rules face off as “The Swiss Superman” Cesaro would go one-on-one with Kevin Owens. During the match, Cesaro would knock Kevin Owens to the outside and this is when Owens would decide to surprise Sami Zayn with a right hand, knocking Sami down. Cesaro then brings Owens back into the ring before Cesaro shoves The Miz down at ringside. Back in the ring, the match would continue as The Miz would get on the ring apron, distracting Cesaro long enough for Kevin Owens to score with a super kick, but Cesaro would kick out. Shortly after this, Sami Zayn would enter the ring, looking for a piece of Kevin Owens, but Sami would instead get a piece of Cesaro as “The Swiss Superman” pulls Zayn back and drops Sami with a right hand! This is when Owens would spot his opening, surprising Cesaro with a roll-up and hooking the tights to keep Cesaro down for the three-count, picking up the win. After the match, Cesaro would catch The Miz with a European uppercut and Sami Zayn would blast Cesaro with the Helluva Kick before The Miz plants Sami with the Skull Crushing Finale! The Miz then glares at Kevin Owens, who sarcastically applauds his three rivals taking each other out. After defeating Becky Lynch twice in the past week, the dominant new force in the women’s division was in action on SmackDown as former bodybuilder Dana Brooke would go one-on-one with Paige with Becky Lynch a guest on commentary. In the end, it was Dana Brooke planting Paige with the Michinoku Driver, pinning Paige for the win. Before he faces Baron Corbin in a No Disqualification match on the Extreme Rules Kickoff this Sunday night, Dolph Ziggler would square off with “The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus on SmackDown. In the end, it was Dolph Ziggler overcoming the onslaught of his larger opponent, toppling Sheamus with a super kick, pinning “The Celtic Warrior” for the win. After the match, Baron Corbin would come out to the stage to address his Extreme Rules opponent, telling Dolph that, this Sunday, he’s going to do what he does best and that’s “hurt” Dolph Ziggler. Corbin then says that, with no disqualifications, there is “nothing” that anyone can do about it. Three nights before he faces Dean Ambrose in the first ever Asylum Match at Extreme Rules, Chris Jericho would step into the Asylum on SmackDown as “Y2J” would be in the ring with the awe-inspiring, weaponized steel cage hanging above the ring. Jericho says that he’s been in every match that WWE has created over the years, but he’s never been in an Asylum Match and neither has Dean Ambrose. Jericho continues, saying that he is “crazier” than Dean Ambrose, saying that he is a “lunatic”, bringing up his recent assaults on Ambrose. Jericho then asks for the Asylum to be lowered around the ring and, as the structure is lowered, Jericho goes through how many days Dean Ambrose will be in the hospital after he uses the various weapons on Ambrose. Jericho claims that Ambrose will be in the hospital for “forty days” after the Asylum Match, saying that, at Extreme Rules, he is going to give Ambrose the “gift of Jericho”. However, unbeknownst to Chris Jericho, one of the members of the ring crew who were fastening the cage to the ring was in the ring as the man removes his disguise to reveal Dean Ambrose! Ambrose then takes it to Chris Jericho before grabbing the kendo stick hanging above the cage, wearing “Y2J” out with stick shots before Jericho frantically opens the cage door and flees the Asylum! Before they defend the WWE Tag Team Titles against The Vaudevillains this Sunday at Extreme Rules, WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day would team with Big Cass to face the team of The Vaudevillains and The Dudley Boyz in an 8-Man Tag match. In the end, it was Big Cass hitting the Empire Elbow on Bubba Ray Dudley, pinning Bubba Ray to pick up the win for himself and The New Day. Then it was time for the main event as, three nights before he defends the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against AJ Styles in an Extreme Rules Match at Extreme Rules, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns, with The Usos in his corner, would go one-on-one with Luke Gallows, with AJ Styles and Karl Anderson in his corner, in a non-title match. During the match, Roman Reigns would level Luke Gallows with the Superman Punch, but when Roman sized Gallows up for the Spear, AJ Styles would grab the ankle of the champion. This would lead to all hell breaking loose as Styles and Karl Anderson would brawl with The Usos on the outside before Reigns takes Styles out with the Drive-By on the outside. Back in the ring, Luke Gallows would plant Reigns with the Gallows Pole, but Reigns would kick out. Karl Anderson would then enter the ring, bringing an end to the match before Gallows & Anderson would deliver the Boot of Doom to Roman Reigns! AJ Styles then slides a couple of steel chairs into the ring before The Usos enter the ring, taking out Gallows & Anderson. Styles then takes out The Usos before the #1 Contender sizes up the champion, sending Reigns out of the ring with a dropkick before exposing the announce table. However, Reigns would fight back, slamming Styles on the table before pummeling “The Phenomenal One”. Luke Gallows would then get involved before The Usos jump back into the fray, joined shortly by Karl Anderson, as an all-out brawl between The Bloodline and The Club breaks out at ringside with Reigns and Styles exchanging right hands and even tumbling over the announce table, continuing to hammer each other!
