WWE RAW Results: May 16, 2016By Cassidy| May 17, 2016 WWE Raw Previous Page Detailed Results Before he challenges Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in an Extreme Rules Match this Sunday night at Extreme Rules, RAW kicks off with the #1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship as “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles makes his way to the ring. Styles says he wants to set the record straight so that Roman Reigns and people on social media will stop calling him a “liar”, saying those people seem to think that he, Luke Gallows, & Karl Anderson came up with some sort of “master plan” to get Styles the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Styles continues, saying that none of this is “new” to him and he has won championships all over the world and he didn’t need anyone’s help to do it. This brings out Styles’ Extreme Rules opponent as WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring to confront “The Phenomenal One”. The champion says that AJ Styles has won championships all over the world, but none of that matters unless you’ve won “the championship” before saying that Styles is “phenomenal at lying”. Roman then says that he will be in the corner of The Usos in the main event before Styles says that he will be in the corner of Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson. Styles then vows that he will be wherever Roman is until he wins the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The #1 Contender then mocks the champion, saying that Roman is not a “good guy” and he’s not a “bad guy”, he’s “the guy” and, this Sunday, Roman is going to be “the guy” that he beats for the WWE World Heavyweight Title! Reigns then says that Extreme Rules is the “big fight” and, if he wants to take a steel chair and beat Styles within an inch of his life, then he can do so. Roman continues, saying that he knows that Styles cannot beat him one-on-one so he knows that Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson will be involved in their title match this Sunday and that means that The Usos will be right there too. The champion then says that Styles, Gallows, & Anderson will find out at Extreme Rules that the “bloodline is stronger” than The Club. The confrontation is then interrupted with the arrival of Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, but as Gallows & Anderson make their way down the ramp, The Usos slide into the ring, standing by their cousin Roman Reigns. Styles then turns around to face Reigns, but the #1 Contender is caught with an uppercut from the champion, sending “The Phenomenal One” out of the ring as Gallows & Anderson hold Styles back from rushing into the ring as The Family stands tall in the ring. Six nights before The Miz defends the Intercontinental Championship in a Fatal 4-Way Match against Cesaro, Sami Zayn, & Kevin Owens at Extreme Rules this Sunday, the opening match of the night would see “The Swiss Superman” Cesaro go one-on-one with “The Underdog from the Underground” Sami Zayn with both Intercontinental Champion The Miz and Kevin Owens guests on commentary. During the match, Kevin Owens would appear to be done bickering with The Miz on commentary as he takes off his headset and leaves the announce position, but as The Miz is busy talking, Owens blindsides the Intercontinental Champion! Owens then tries to walk off with the Intercontinental Title belt, but The Miz attacks Owens, sparking a brawl between Miz and Owens as the match continues. However, once Miz and Owens enter the ring, a brawl breaks out between the Fatal 4-Way adversaries as the match is ended with Cesaro and Sami Zayn getting the better of the fight. This brings out Shane McMahon, who announces that Kevin Owens will team with The Miz to face Cesaro and Sami Zayn in tag team action. However, the other person in control of RAW, Stephanie McMahon, comes out to mix things up a bit. After mentioning the implosion of the aforementioned teams on SmackDown, Stephanie says that, instead, The Miz will team up with Cesaro to face the team of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn! Given Kevin Owens’ habit of abandoning his tag partners, Stephanie adds the stipulation that, if Kevin Owens abandons his tag partner this time, then he is out of the Intercontinental Title match this Sunday! In an intriguing match made by Stephanie McMahon moments earlier, Kevin Owens would be forced to team with his bitter rival Sami Zayn to face the unusual team of “The Swiss Superman” Cesaro and Intercontinental Champion The Miz, with Maryse in his corner, and, if Owens walks out on the match, he will be out of the Fatal 4-Way Match for the Intercontinental Title this Sunday! During the match, Cesaro had things well in hand, but The Miz would tag himself into the match and, as Cesaro was setting up for the Cesaro Swing, The Miz would enter the ring, throwing his own tag partner to the outside! This is when the match would devolve into chaos as Cesaro would come back into the ring and hit The Miz with Miz’s own Skull Crushing Finale before Kevin Owens pulls Cesaro out of the ring! This leaves The Miz and Sami Zayn alone in the ring as Sami hits the Helluva Kick, pinning the Intercontinental Champion to pick up the win for himself and Kevin Owens. After the match, Kevin Owens would blast Sami Zayn with a super kick, leaving Owens as the only man left standing in the ring. After weeks of vignettes promoting the splendor of Puerto Rico, The Shining Stars would arrive on RAW as Primo & Epico would face two local competitors by the names of Scott Jackson & Brian Kennedy. At the end of a dominant performance, it was Primo & Epico hitting the Shining Star maneuver on Brian Kennedy with Epico pinning Kennedy to pick up the win for The Shining Stars. After being put in a straightjacket and assaulted by Chris Jericho on SmackDown, Dean Ambrose would make an appearance on RAW as “The Lunatic Fringe” would address Chris Jericho. Ambrose says that people like to question his “stability” before saying that, when Jericho put that straightjacket on him, something in his head “snapped”. Ambrose then says that there is something that he needs to do and he needs to do it right now, calling out Chris Jericho. Jericho would come out to the stage, opting to keep his distance from Dean Ambrose. “Y2J” says that he wants an apology from Dean Ambrose for destroying his $15,000 jacket last week and he also wants Ambrose to pay him back for the destroyed jacket. Jericho continues, saying the jacket is a part of his “legacy” and Ambrose owes him an apology and he wants it right now. Ambrose refuses, saying that he called Jericho out to challenge him to a match at Extreme Rules. Jericho then accepts the challenge, saying he’s going to take $15,000 out of Ambrose’s ass! Jericho then says that he is the true “lunatic”, saying there is no one in WWE “crazier” than him, saying that he has faced every type of competitor WWE has thrown at him and has beaten them. Jericho continues, saying that he is not “scared of” Ambrose, he is “scared for” Ambrose, vowing to have “no remorse” this Sunday, saying that he is giving Ambrose the “gift of Jericho”. Ambrose responds by saying that he’s got a “gift” of his own for Jericho before Ambrose looks above him as a steel cage lowers around the ring. However, the steel cage appears to have various things hanging from it before Dean Ambrose explains that he talked to Shane McMahon and had a special match made for the two of them at Extreme Rules. “The Lunatic Fringe” then introduces the first ever Asylum Match, which is a steel cage match with various implements, such as a straightjacket, a strap, a mop, a bucket, a fire extinguisher, a potted plant, and a barbed wire two-by-four, among other things, hanging above it! As an irate Chris Jericho looks on in disbelief, Dean Ambrose explains that, unlike a Steel Cage Match, there is “no escape” in the Asylum Match! Ambrose continues, saying that, once the door shuts behind Jericho and he is locked inside the Asylum, Jericho will “never, ever be the same again”! After getting beat down by Emma & Dana Brooke on last week’s RAW, Becky Lynch would be looking for revenge on RAW as “The Irish Lass Kicker” would go one-on-one with Dana Brooke in a rematch from SmackDown. In the end, it was Dana Brooke countering an attempted sunset flip, holding Becky Lynch down for the three-count as Dana picks up the win in her in-ring RAW debut. Following months of trying to form a tag team with questionable results, RAW would see the official debut of The Golden Truth as Goldust & R-Truth would face the two men who turned on them on SmackDown, Fandango & Tyler Breeze, calling themselves Breezango. However, it would not be a good night for The Golden Truth as R-Truth would inadvertently hit Goldust with a spinning heel kick and Tyler Breeze would capitalize, tossing Truth out of the ring and pinning Goldust to pick up the win for Breezango. With a WWE Tag Team Title defense against The Vaudevillains this Sunday at Extreme Rules, the WWE Tag Team Champions were on RAW as The New Day would make their way to the ring. The New Day would unveil Xavier Woods’ homemade time machine and, despite Big E initially not playing along, The New Day would get in the cardboard box adorned with a clock, a keyboard, and several taped on hoses and implements. After some flashing lights, Kofi Kingston would emerge from the box to his old theme music, using his Jamaican accent that he debuted with several years ago. Xavier then pulls Kofi back into the “time machine” before some more lights flash and, when The New Day comes out of the box, everything is in black and white with old facial hair and outdated phones. However, the shtick would come to an abrupt end once The Vaudevillains ambush The New Day, taking out Kofi Kingston before throwing Xavier Woods into his “time machine”, wrecking the box before planting Xavier in the center of the ring. This leaves The Vaudevillains standing tall in the ring, having made a major statement ahead of their title match at Extreme Rules. With WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns in their corner, The Usos would face Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, with the #1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship AJ Styles in their corner. During a chaotic match, The Usos would take out Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson out with double super kicks before Jey Uso comes off of the top rope with the Uso Splash to Karl Anderson, pinning Anderson to pick up the win for The Usos. After the match, Roman Reigns and AJ Styles would come face-to-face before Luke Gallows shoves Reigns into Styles. The Usos and Gallows & Anderson resume their battle on the outside with both teams taking each other out. This leaves Styles and Reigns alone in the ring with a steel chair in the middle of the ring and “The Phenomenal One” is the first to his feet. The #1 Contender is then about to use the steel chair, but Roman catches Styles with an uppercut. The champion then picks up the chair, delivering a shot to the back of Styles before Luke Gallows intervenes as Reigns takes out Gallows with a Superman Punch, followed by a Superman Punch to Karl Anderson as well. However, the distraction would pay off for the #1 Contender as Styles would grab the steel chair, delivering a shot to the mid-section followed by a trio of shots to the back. Styles then sets up for the Styles Clash, driving the champion face-down onto the steel chair! AJ Styles then stands tall over Roman, making it clear that he is ready to take it to the extreme this Sunday at Extreme Rules. After The Dudley Boyz confronted Shane & Stephanie McMahon backstage to express their disdain for the “new era”, the biggest proponent of the “new era”, Big Cass, would go one-on-one with D-Von Dudley, with Bubba Ray Dudley in his corner. Early on in the match, Bubba Ray would pull a table out from under the ring to distract Big Cass and D-Von would take advantage, briefly gaining the advantage in the match. However, Big Cass would knock Bubba Ray off of the ring apron with a big boot before planting D-Von with the East River Crossing, pinning D-Von for the win. Before he defends the United States Championship against Rusev at Extreme Rules this Sunday, United States Champion Kalisto would go one-on-one with the man he beat for the United States Title, Alberto Del Rio, in a non-title match. During the match, Sin Cara was watching Kalisto’s match from the backstage area when Sin Cara is blasted in the back of the head with a big kick from Rusev! As Alberto Del Rio forces Kalisto to watch his partner being assaulted from in the ring, Rusev slams Sin Cara’s head into a nearby anvil case. With the match still in progress, Rusev would drag Sin Cara out to ringside, repeatedly sending Sin Cara into the steel ring post. Despite Kalisto’s best efforts to keep his focus on Alberto Del Rio, the United States Champion could not help but be distracted by Rusev’s assault on his tag team partner, leading to Del Rio hitting the Back Stabber and pinning Kalisto for the win. After the match, Rusev would enter the ring, delivering a vicious kick to the back of Kalisto’s head before locking in the Accolade, wrenching at Kalisto’s head, nearly breaking Kalisto in half before referees are finally able to get Rusev to break the hold. Rusev then grabs the United States Title belt, tossing the belt at Kalisto, having laid waste to the United States Champion. With Shane & Stephanie McMahon in the ring, it was then time for the official contract signing for the Submission Match for the Women’s Championship between Charlotte and Natalya with Ric Flair banned from ringside at Extreme Rules. However, before Stephanie McMahon can introduce Charlotte, Charlotte’s Hall of Fame father Ric Flair interrupts to do the honors himself, introducing his daughter, the Women’s Champion Charlotte as the champion and her father make their way to the ring. Shane McMahon then introduces the challenger as Natalya makes her way to the ring for the contract signing. Before signing the contract, Natalya says that Charlotte used to have “integrity”, saying that Charlotte beat Natalya to win her first title in NXT and she didn’t need her “creepy father” to do it. Shane then asks for Natalya to sign the contract first with the challenger complying. The Women’s Champion then says that, as a fellow North Carolinian, the Greensboro crowd is on her side, saying they are not going to cheer anything that Natalya says or does. Charlotte then says that she is their “goddess” and they love her because her last name is “Flair” before saying that Natalya is just another Hart who is a “failure”, saying Natalya is going to tap out this Sunday. Shane McMahon then asks for Charlotte and her father to sign the contract, but Charlotte and Ric Flair spot something in the contract that they do not agree with. Shane then explains that, because of what happened last week, if Ric Flair even shows his face during the Submission Match for the Women’s Title this Sunday, then Charlotte will be forced to forfeit the Women’s Championship! As a precaution, Shane then asks for security to come down to ringside as Stephanie explains to Charlotte that, if Charlotte does not sign the contract, then Charlotte will forfeit the Women’s Title right now! Given no other choice, both Charlotte and Ric Flair sign the contract to make the Women’s Title match at Extreme Rules official! However, once the contract is signed, Ric Flair loses his cool, pointing his finger at Stephanie McMahon as the Hall of Famer says that he’s tried to like Stephanie because of his friendship with her husband Triple H, calling Stephanie the “worst businesswoman of all-time”. Shane then tries to diffuse the situation, but Flair would not let up, saying that, this time, they are going to carry Shane out of the arena. With that, “The Nature Boy” takes off his jacket, apparently ready to fight Shane McMahon! Despite Charlotte pleading with her father to stop, Flair would ignore his daughter’s pleas, continuing to get in Shane’s face. Shane says that he’s got too much respect for Ric Flair to fight him, but this is when Stephanie steps in, saying that Shane might have too much respect for Flair to fight him, but she doesn’t before slapping the Hall of Famer across the face! The ferocious slap takes “The Nature Boy” off of his feet before security pulls Ric Flair out of the ring. Meanwhile, in the ring, Charlotte made her way towards Stephanie McMahon, but Natalya steps in, taking Charlotte down and locking in the Sharpshooter, making the Women’s Champion tap out in the middle of the ring! Charlotte then rolls out of the ring as Natalya is left standing tall, holding the Women’s Title belt high above her head with a smile on her face in what could be a sign of things to come at Extreme Rules.
