WWE SmackDown Results: April 28, 2016By Cassidy| April 29, 2016 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results Before he defends the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against AJ Styles this Sunday at Payback, SmackDown kicks off with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns. The champion says that, on RAW, he hit AJ Styles in the mouth with the Superman Punch and, at Payback, he’s going to do it again. Roman then says that, for the last couple of weeks, Styles has been saying that he has nothing to do with the attacks by Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, but he just doesn’t believe it. Reigns continues, saying that AJ Styles isn’t “fooling anyone”, telling Styles to come out there, “man up”, and “tell the truth”. However, Roman doesn’t get the #1 Contender, he gets the Intercontinental Champion as The Miz makes his way to the ring with his wife Maryse by his side. The Miz introduces Maryse to Roman Reigns before saying that he was the first to unveil that AJ Styles was working together with Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, saying that when the “deception” is revealed, Roman Reigns will be left without the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The Intercontinental Champion then says that he thinks that he deserves a “little recognition” for exposing the collusion. However, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion was in no mood for The Miz as Reigns blasts The Miz with a right hand before sending The Miz out of the ring, handing Maryse her husband’s Intercontinental Title belt. Following a disappointing night on RAW where all three of them lost their respective one-on-one matches, The League of Nations would issue an open challenge to any three competitors to team up and face them in a 6-Man Tag match and those three Superstars would be the #1 Contender for the Intercontinental Title Cesaro, “The Underdog from the Underground” Sami Zayn, and United States Champion Kalisto, all of which have their respective matches this Sunday at Payback. Early on in the match, it would become clear that there was some dissention and frustration amongst The League of Nations as the trio struggled to stay on the same page. Later on in the match, Alberto Del Rio was sizing Sami Zayn up for the Cross Armbreaker when Rusev decided to tag himself into the match. This would spark an argument between Rusev and Del Rio before Sheamus would intervene, trying to play peacekeeper for the group, but Sheamus’ attempts would fail and bickering would turn to shoving between the three Superstars. This would lead to Alberto Del Rio walking out on Sheamus & Rusev, who would be left to compete in the match. Shortly after this, Rusev would hold Sami Zayn in place before tagging in Sheamus, but when “The Celtic Warrior” comes off of the top rope, Sami moves out of the way and Sheamus inadvertently knocks down Rusev! This leads to another shoving match and, this time, it’s Rusev who walks out on the match, leaving Sheamus all alone against Cesaro, Sami Zayn, & Kalisto! Sheamus would do his best to battle the odds, but when it became clear that he was in over his head, “The Celtic Warrior” would wiggle free of the Cesaro Swing before walking out on the match, taking a count-out loss as Cesaro, Sami Zayn, & Kalisto pick up the win. Backstage, the arguing would continue between the members of The League of Nations, but things would turn physical in a hurry with Sheamus & Rusev slamming Alberto Del Rio into a door before Sheamus shoves Rusev into the same door. Sheamus then yells that they both “walked out” on him, declaring that The League of Nations is “finished”! Sheamus then storms off as Rusev yells “forget your league” before Rusev and Del Rio get to their feet and Rusev storms off as well. Before he goes one-on-one with Dolph Ziggler at Payback this Sunday, “The Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin would go one-on-one with Damien Sandow in a match that was originally scheduled for RAW but did not take place due to Dolph ambushing Corbin before the match. Baron Corbin would completely dominate Damien Sandow, beating Sandow in and out of the ring before planting Sandow with the End of Days in the middle of the ring, pinning Sandow for the win. Backstage, AJ Styles is interviewed about what Roman Reigns had to say earlier in the night as the #1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship says that he doesn’t care what Roman Reigns thinks. Styles then says that he’s going to take the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Reigns this Sunday at Payback and, then, Reigns won’t be calling him a “liar”, he will be calling him “champ”. AJ says that he doesn’t answer to Reigns and he’ll step on Roman’s “cape” when he wants to and that’s what he plans to do tonight because he’s going to be at ringside for Roman’s match against The Miz! Three nights before Charlotte, with her father Ric Flair in her corner, defends the Women’s Championship against Natalya, who will have her uncle Bret Hart in her corner, at Payback, both champion and challenger would be a guest on The Ambrose Asylum. The host would come out first as Dean Ambrose would first address his Payback opponent, Chris Jericho, saying that Jericho had him in the Walls of Jericho on the announce table on RAW. Ambrose then says that Jericho made the mistake of “letting go” of the hold, saying that he can “hold a grudge” and nothing is to pry him off of Chris Jericho this Sunday. Ambrose then gets on the announce table, declaring that, at Payback, he’s going to turn “Bon Jovi into Meatloaf”. Ambrose then gets in the ring, collecting himself before welcoming everyone to The Ambrose Asylum. “The Lunatic Fringe” introduces his first of two guests as the #1 Contender for the Women’s Championship, Natalya, makes her way to the ring. Natalya says that things are going to be different this Sunday because she’s going to have someone in her corner as her uncle Bret Hart will be in her corner. Women’s Champion Charlotte and her two-time Hall of Fame father Ric Flair then make their way to the ring. Charlotte wastes no time getting personal, saying that, after everything that Bret Hart has been through, Natalya is going to “parade him around” at Payback. Natalya tells Charlotte to take a look in the mirror and see who is standing behind her, but the Women’s Champion claims that’s “different”, saying that her father is a two-time Hall of Famer and a sixteen-time former World Champion. Natalya says that Flair is a “lying, screaming, creepy, old man” who knows that he has to “cheat” to help his daughter because he knows that his daughter isn’t “good enough” to do it on her own. Natalya then says that, if Flair tries to do anything to interfere in the title match this Sunday, then Bret Hart will be there to stop him and Charlotte will tap out again. Charlotte then hands the microphone off to her father as Ric Flair says that he’s beaten Bret Hart in WWE and he’s beat Bret in WCW, saying that he could beat Bret anywhere, even “on the moon”! Natalya then tells “The Nature Boy” to settle down before telling Charlotte that it’s time to give the people a champion that they “deserve”. Before the Finals of the #1 Contenders’ Tag Team Tournament determines the new #1 Contenders for their WWE Tag Team Titles this Sunday at Payback, the WWE Tag Team Champions would take over the announce position on SmackDown as The New Day would take the places of Mauro Ranallo, Byron Saxton, & Jerry Lawler at ringside as the team that will face The Vaudevillains to determine the new #1 Contenders, Enzo & Big Cass, would face The Social Outcasts’ Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel, with Heath Slater in their corner. Early on in the match, The Vaudevillains would come out to the stage to get a closer look at their Payback opponents. In an impressive performance from Enzo & Big Cass, it was Big Cass taking out Heath Slater before Enzo & Big Cass hit the Rocket Launcher with Enzo pinning Curtis Axel for the win. After the match, Big Cass tells The Vaudevillains that they are going to prove this Sunday that there is only one word to describe them, calling The Vaudevillains “sawft”. In a rematch from RAW, the dynamic Apollo Crews would go one-on-one with Stardust on SmackDown. Throughout the match, Stardust would target the left leg of Apollo Crews, but the injury wouldn’t slow Crews down as Apollo hits the spinning sitout powerbomb, pinning Stardust for the win. With the #1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship AJ Styles at ringside, it was time for the main event as WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns would go one-on-one with Intercontinental Champion The Miz, with Maryse in his corner, in a non-title, Champion vs. Champion match. During the match, an inevitable confrontation between Roman Reigns and AJ Styles would give The Miz the opportunity to send Roman face-first into the steel ring post, giving the Intercontinental Champion the advantage in the match. Later on in the match, Maryse would pull her husband to the safety of the outside, but Reigns would follow The Miz to the outside and The Miz would take advantage, dropkicking the steel steps into the left leg of Reigns. Despite this, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion would rebound, blasting the Intercontinental Champion with the Spear, pinning The Miz to pick up the win. After the match, AJ Styles would enter the ring as champion and challenger come face-to-face before Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson make their way towards the ring. However, the champion would decide to exit the ring and try to bring the fight to Gallows & Anderson, but the numbers game would overwhelm Reigns as Gallows & Anderson send the champion into the steel steps. Anderson then brings Reigns into the ring and, as AJ Styles looks on, visibly conflicted by the events taking place, Gallows blasts Reigns with a big boot. The Usos then rush out to the aid of their cousin as The Usos take it to Gallows & Anderson as AJ Styles continues to stand by and watch the proceedings. However, when Styles confronts Jimmy Uso in what appeared to be an attempt to explain himself, Jimmy would drop Styles with a right hand! Jimmy then drops Gallows with a super kick before Styles scores with a kick to Jimmy’s head. Styles then goes for the Phenomenal Forearm, but Jimmy moves out of the way before Luke Gallows sends Jimmy Uso to the outside. “The Phenomenal One” then briefly confronts Luke Gallows before Roman Reigns comes out of nowhere with a Spear to Gallows! Styles then tries to surprise Roman with the Styles Clash, but Reigns counters before trying to hit Styles with the Superman Punch, but the #1 Contender dodges the move, dropping off of the ring apron. The champion then holds the title belt up high, not taking his eyes off of AJ Styles. What did you think of this week’s SmackDown? Post your comments in the box below.
