WWE SmackDown Results: April 14, 2016By Cassidy| April 15, 2016 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results SmackDown kicks off with Maryse in the ring as the French-born wife of the Intercontinental Champion introduces her husband, mostly in French, as Intercontinental Champion The Miz makes his way to the ring for Miz TV. The champion says that, behind every champion there is a “great woman” before introducing his guest, which is his wife Maryse. The Miz then asks his first question, asking his wife what it’s like being married to The Miz and Maryse says that it is “perfection”, saying that The Miz is a “role model” for children around the world. The Miz then says that Maryse makes him a “better man” and he wants to give her the world, film premieres and “holidays with Leo”. Maryse then says that they are the “real life People Magazine”, saying that this is the year that The Miz will be named “the sexiest man alive”. Miz TV is then interrupted by the man he took the Intercontinental Title away from a couple of weeks ago, Zack Ryder. Ryder says that The Miz and Maryse’s public display of affection is making everybody “sick”. Maryse responds by saying that Ryder is just upset because The Miz is a “real man” and The Miz killed Ryder’s WrestleMania moment in less than twenty-four hours. Ryder then asks Maryse how it feels to be married to someone who wears more makeup than Maryse does. Ryder then says that he had his WrestleMania moment in front of 100,000 people and that’s something that The Miz can never take away from him. Ryder then assures The Miz that he will get the Intercontinental Title back some day, saying that, in the meantime, he will gladly watch as the new #1 Contender, Cesaro, takes the title from The Miz. Ryder then says that, if The Miz is afraid of losing the title at Payback, then maybe he should beat Miz for the title right now. Maryse taunts the crowd with the promise of a title match before The Miz surprisingly accepts the challenge. However, The Miz then reveals that Zack Ryder is already scheduled for a match, revealing that Ryder’s opponent is the newcomer from NXT, Baron Corbin! In the opening match of the night, “The Lone Wolf” would make his SmackDown debut as Baron Corbin would go one-on-one with Zack Ryder. In an impressive match from the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal winner, Baron Corbin would hit the End of Days, pinning Zack Ryder for the win. After the match, “The Lone Wolf” was set to do additional damage to Zack Ryder before Dolph Ziggler rushes out with revenge on his mind, but Corbin would dodge Dolph, making a quick exit from the ring before “The Show Off” tends to Zack Ryder on the outside. In a battle of international Superstars, Total Divas star Paige would go one-on-one with Emma on SmackDown. During the match, Paige would have Emma positioned on the top turnbuckle, but Emma was able to slip off of the turnbuckle, dropping Paige face-first on the top turnbuckle, pinning Paige to pick up the win. In the first of two First Round matches in the tournament to crown new #1 Contenders for The New Day’s WWE Tag Team Titles, Enzo & Big Cass would make their in-ring, main roster debut as “The Realest Guys in the Room” would face The Ascension with the winners advancing to the Semi-Finals of the #1 Contenders’ Tag Team Tournament. In the end, it was Enzo & Big Cass utilizing the Rocket Launcher with Big Cass launching Enzo off of the top rope with a big splash to Viktor with Enzo pinning Viktor to pick up the win and advance to the Semi-Finals of the Tag Team Tournament where they will face The Dudley Boyz. The #1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was in action on SmackDown as “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles would go one-on-one with League of Nations member Alberto Del Rio for the first time ever. At the end of a grueling match, AJ Styles would avoid the double stomp from Alberto Del Rio and, while Del Rio would avoid the Phenomenal Forearm, Styles would counter Del Rio’s attempt at the Cross Armbreaker into a roll-up, keeping Del Rio down for the three-count, picking up a hard-fought win. After a confrontation backstage where Goldust informed R-Truth that they will not be teaming tonight, the newly formed team of Goldust & Fandango, calling themselves “Goldango”, would face the throwback team from NXT, The Vaudevillains in the second of two First Round matches in the #1 Contenders’ Tag Team Tournament. In the end, it was an impressive victory for The Vaudevillains as Aiden English & Simon Gotch hit the Whirling Dervish with English pinning Fandango to pick up the win and advance to the Semi-Finals of the Tag Team Tournament where The Vaudevillains will face The Usos. Then it was time for the main event as, for the first time ever, “The Underdog of The Underground” Sami Zayn would go one-on-one with “Y2J” Chris Jericho. Early on in the match, things would get interesting for both Sami Zayn and Chris Jericho as, first, Sami’s former friend and bitter rival Kevin Owens would come out to ringside before the man that crashed Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel and turned it into The Ambrose Asylum on RAW, Dean Ambrose, comes out as well! Ambrose hands out Ambrose Asylum flyers to the crowd before both Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens sit down to be guests on commentary as the match continues. Later on in the match, the action would spill to the outside and this is when Chris Jericho would decide to shove Dean Ambrose down, pummeling “The Lunatic Fringe” before tossing Ambrose into the barricade. Then, on the other side of the announce table, Kevin Owens is taunting Sami Zayn and that is when Sami decides to lift Jericho up for a back body drop right on top of Kevin Owens, knocking Owens to the floor! Back in the ring, Sami Zayn looked to be closing in on a victory over Chris Jericho, but Kevin Owens would rush the ring, attacking Sami and ending the match by disqualification. Owens and Jericho would then look to beat Zayn down, but Dean Ambrose would make the save as all four men brawl with their respective rivals. Ambrose would then look for Dirty Deeds on Jericho, but Owens would attack Ambrose from behind, looking for a powerbomb before Sami Zayn blasts Owens with a kick that sends Owens out of the ring! This leaves Dean Ambrose and Sami Zayn standing tall in the ring as Kevin Owens backs up the ramp and Chris Jericho shouts at Dean Ambrose from a safe distance at ringside.
