WWE SmackDown Results: March 17, 2016By Cassidy| March 18, 2016 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results After returning to RAW to exact revenge on Triple H where he nearly destroyed the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, the #1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania would kick off SmackDown as Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring. Roman says that he believes in the “big fight” and he is going to wait until they are in the same “area code” again so he can beat him down again. Reigns then says that, at WrestleMania, they are all going to witness him “destroy” Triple H and take the WWE World Heavyweight Championship because he “can”, concluding by telling everyone to “believe that”. Following a stellar match against WWE World Heavyweight Champion Triple H where he came close to defeating the champion on RAW, “The Show Off” Dolph Ziggler would go one-on-one with The Miz on SmackDown. In the end, Dolph Ziggler would survive the Figure-Four Leg Lock from The Miz before “The Show Off” takes advantage of The Miz arguing with the referee, blasting Miz with a super kick and pinning Miz for the win. With their first WrestleMania match in fourteen years coming up against The Usos in just over two weeks, The Dudley Boyz were on SmackDown as Bubba Ray Dudley, with D-Von Dudley in his corner, would go one-on-one with Goldust. As soon as the match begins, D-Von would pull a table out from under the ring, distracting Goldust to give Bubba Ray the early advantage before putting the table back under the ring. In the end, it was Bubba Ray catching Goldust with a big boot, pinning “The Bizarre One” for the win. After the match, D-Von would attack Goldust from behind as The Dudley Boyz would look to beat down Goldust, but R-Truth would make the save for Goldust. However, R-Truth would also get beat down by Bubba Ray & D-Von before The Usos rush out for a piece of their WrestleMania opponents as The Usos battle with The Dudley Boyz before Bubba Ray & D-Von decide to exit the ring, leaving The Usos standing tall, ready for a fight. Before they compete in a Triple Threat Match for the Divas Championship at WrestleMania, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Divas Champion Charlotte would be in the ring at the same time for a face-to-face-to-face confrontation. The Divas Champion is the first to come to the ring as Charlotte is escorted to the ring by her Hall of Fame father Ric Flair. Charlotte says that she has known Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch for nearly her entire adult life, saying that she wants both Sasha and Becky to remember their “history” and accept her invitation. With that, the first of two challengers for the Divas Championship at WrestleMania, Becky Lynch, makes her way to the ring, joining the Divas Champion. Charlotte says that she can always “count on” Becky and Becky responds that Charlotte can count on her to take the Divas Title come WrestleMania. This brings out the final piece of the puzzle as “The Boss” Sasha Banks makes her way to the ring. Sasha says that she is not on Charlotte’s schedule because she’s “The Boss” and the Divas Champion doesn’t tell her when to show up. Charlotte then recalls all three of their beginnings in NXT before claiming that she is out there to “apologize”. The Divas Champion then apologizes to her father for telling him that Sasha and Becky were on her level. This sparks an argument between the three Divas before Becky says that Charlotte can call her whatever she wants because, at WrestleMania, she can call her the woman that’s “ripping off” Charlotte’s arm and took the Divas Title. This brings Sasha Banks into the conversation as “The Boss” reminds both of her opponents that she defeated Charlotte to win the NXT Women’s Title and, since her main roster debut, she is yet to be pinned or made to submit, saying she “deserves” to be in the match. Becky says that she “earned” her way into the match unlike “some people” and, if it wasn’t for Ric Flair, she’d be the Divas Champion right now. Becky then says that it takes more than an a “self-entitled ego” and some “dollar store jewelry” to be a “boss”. Sasha responds by taking off her jewelry, preparing for a fight as both Sasha and Becky shove each other while Charlotte looks on gleefully. Both challengers then spot the Divas Champion laughing at them so Sasha and Becky work together to take Charlotte down before Becky delivers a suplex to the Divas Champion and Sasha hits Charlotte with the Back Stabber! Charlotte then retreats from the ring as Sasha and Becky stand tall in the ring, having realized who the true enemy is. After The New Day was viciously attacked by The League of Nations on RAW, WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day were on SmackDown as Kofi Kingston, with Big E & Xavier Woods in his corner, would go one-on-one with League of Nations member King Barrett, with Sheamus, Rusev, & Alberto Del Rio in their corner. In the end, Big E & Xavier Woods would take care of the attempted interference by Sheamus, Rusev, & Alberto Del Rio before Kofi Kingston surprising King Barrett with a roll-up, hooking the tights for the illegal advantage to pick up the win. After being the first ones to announce their entry into the third annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania, The Social Outcasts would argue amongst themselves about who will win the battle royal before Cincinnati’s own Dean Ambrose comes out with kendo stick in hand. “The Lunatic Fringe” would tee off on Bo Dallas, Heath Slater, & Adam Rose before taking the stick to the mid-section and back of Curtis Axel, sending Axel packing from the ring. Ambrose then says that he heard that Brock Lesnar is going to be on SmackDown next week, challenging his WrestleMania opponent to a fight next week! Then it was time for the main event as, for the first time in WWE, “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles would go one-on-one with Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens in a non-title match. During a stellar match between the two veterans, AJ Styles looked to be closing in on a victory when Chris Jericho would make his entrance. The arrival of “Y2J” would distract “The Phenomenal One” long enough for Kevin Owens as the Intercontinental Champion would plant AJ Styles with the Pop-Up Powerbomb, pinning AJ for the win. After the match, Chris Jericho would add insult to injury with a Codebreaker to AJ Styles before Jericho grabs a microphone and mocks the fans by chanting “AJ Styles” in the face of “The Phenomenal One”.
