WWE SmackDown Results: January 7, 2016By Cassidy| January 8, 2016 WWE SmackDown Boundless Brawl. The 855th edition of WWE Thursday Night SmackDown, and the first SmackDown of 2016, came to you from the Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, TX. The new year would mean new beginnings for Thursday night’s hottest show as SmackDown would arrive at its new permanent home on the USA Network and, as SmackDown rings in a new era on USA, the second longest running episodic show in history would feature a special appearance from a Superstar who started his career on SmackDown as fifteen-time former World Champion John Cena would make a rare SmackDown appearance! The first SmackDown of 2016 would also feature two big championship matches as, in a rematch from WWE TLC last month, “The Lunatic Fringe” Dean Ambrose would defend the Intercontinental Championship against the man he beat for the title, Kevin Owens! Also, after using some underhanded tactics of her own to pin the Divas Champion on RAW, Becky Lynch would get her first shot at the Divas Championship when she challenges her former best friend Charlotte for the top prize in the Divas division! Match Results Non-Title: Kalisto (with John Cena) def. Alberto Del Rio by hurrincanrana roll-up. 8-Man Tag: Dolph Ziggler, Neville, Goldust, & R-Truth def. The Miz & The New Day by Dolph Ziggler pinning The Miz following the super kick. Divas Championship: Charlotte (c) (with Ric Flair) def. Becky Lynch by roll-up with her feet on the ropes after a distraction from Ric Flair to retain. Intercontinental Championship: Dean Ambrose (c) and Kevin Owens fight to a double count-out. As a result, Dean Ambrose (c) retains. See page 2 for detailed results.
