WWE SmackDown Results: January 28, 2016By Cassidy| January 29, 2016 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results After being embarrassed by The Rock and his cousins The Usos on RAW, the WWE Tag Team Champions would kick off SmackDown as The New Day make their way to the ring. Kofi Kingston says that they just wanted to “enlighten” The Rock, saying that they just wanted to let “The Great One” know that they have something that The Rock does not have and that is “gold”. The trio is then interrupted by another Superstar who was disrespected by The Rock on RAW, The Miz, who makes his way to the ring. The Miz says that he does not get “upstaged”, saying that he is a “movie star” and he deserves “respect”. The Rock’s cousins The Usos then say that they’ve got some backup to help shut the four of them up. With that, The Usos bring out Titus O’Neil and “The Show Off” Dolph Ziggler and, together, the four Superstars rush the ring, sending The Miz and The New Day packing from the ring. The opening match of the night would then be an 8-Man Tag match as the team of The Usos, Titus O’Neil, & Dolph Ziggler would face The Miz and WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day. At the end of a wild match, it was Dolph Ziggler hitting The Miz with a super kick before Titus O’Neil scores with the Clash of the Titus, pinning The Miz to pick up the win for his team. After defeating Alberto Del Rio at the Royal Rumble to win the United States Title for the second time in his career, the new champion would put the gold on the line on SmackDown as Kalisto would defend the United States Championship against “The Man That Gravity Forgot” Neville. At the end of a high-flying affair, it was Kalisto coming out of nowhere with the Salida del Sol, keeping Neville down for the three-count to successfully retain the United States Championship. After the match, Kalisto and Neville would shake hands, exhibiting a rare show of respect. After learning on RAW that they, along with Brock Lesnar, will compete in a Triple Threat Match at Fastlane to determine who will challenge Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania, Roman Reigns and Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose would be guests on Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel. Chris Jericho would first make his way to the ring, saying that he may have lasted 51 minutes in the Royal Rumble Match this past Sunday, but it was Triple H who emerged as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Jericho then says that his match with the debuting AJ Styles on RAW was a “match for the ages” before Jericho gets to the matter at hand, the Triple Threat Match at Fastlane. Jericho then introduces his first guest as the runner-up in the Royal Rumble Match and the reigning Intercontinental Champion makes his way to the ring as Dean Ambrose joins “Y2J” in the ring, followed shortly by Roman Reigns. The brothers-in-arms come bearing gifts as Ambrose brings some flowers and Reigns brings a wooden stool to spruce up The Highlight Reel. Jericho then asks the two friends if they will let animosity get between them as Ambrose says that they don’t fight over things like that. Without hesitation, Ambrose says that he will punch Reigns in the mouth with both men joking about their strategy for Fastlane. Jericho then says that Roman Reigns knows all about Brock Lesnar, but Dean Ambrose does not and Ambrose says that he is “indestructible”, saying that, when a trip to WrestleMania is on the line, he doesn’t have any time to be “scared” of Brock Lesnar. Reigns says that Ambrose doesn’t understand, saying that Brock is different than anyone that Ambrose has ever faced. This would lead the Intercontinental Champion to say that he doesn’t even have to beat Lesnar in the Triple Threat Match, he could just beat Reigns. Roman is quick to respond, saying that it would be the first time because Ambrose has never beaten him before. However, The Highlight Reel is then crashed by The Wyatt Family, who appear on the stage. Bray Wyatt says that, at the Royal Rumble, they “slayed” Brock Lesnar before saying that they “ride”, trampling over those who “wander the pastures of hubris”. Roman tells Bray that they have no idea what he’s talking about before daring The Wyatt Family to come down to the ring and fight. Bray then says that he plans to test the “heart” of Reigns, Ambrose, & Jericho, saying that he and two of his followers are going to put all three of them “down” forever, saying that the “apocalypse” is upon them, advising them to “run”. Following his much-anticipated WWE debut as the #3 entrant in the Royal Rumble Match this past Sunday and his RAW debut where he defeated Chris Jericho, “The Phenomenal One” would make his SmackDown debut as AJ Styles would go one-on-one with Curtis Axel, with his Social Outcast cohorts Heath Slater, Bo Dallas, & Adam Rose in his corner. During the match, The Social Outcasts would repeatedly get involved in the match, but AJ Styles would knock Adam Rose off of the ring apron before diving to the outside to take out Heath Slater & Bo Dallas. Shortly after this, AJ Styles would score with the Styles Clash, pinning Curtis Axel to pick up the win. After using her father, Ric Flair, to keep the Divas Championship at the Royal Rumble, Charlotte was in action on SmackDown as the Divas Champion, with her father Ric Flair in her corner, would face Natalya in a non-title match. In the end, it was Charlotte locking in the Figure-Eight, making Natalya tap out to pick up the win. After the match, Charlotte would lock in the Figure-Eight on Natalya again, but Becky Lynch would make the save, chasing the Divas Champion away. Then it was time for the main event as Fastlane adversaries Roman Reigns and Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose would join forces with “Y2J” Chris Jericho to face The Wyatt Family’s Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, & Erick Rowan, with Braun Strowman in their corner, in a 6-Man Tag match. During the match, Roman Reigns was poised to pick up the win after connecting with the Superman Punch to Luke Harper, but Braun Strowman would pull Reigns out of the ring, ending the match by disqualification. After the match, Strowman would toss Reigns into the barricade before Dean Ambrose jumps on the back of the mastodon, but Strowman shakes Ambrose off, dropping the Intercontinental Champion with a big clothesline. Chris Jericho then tries to combat the big man, but Strowman would toss Jericho over the announce table! The Wyatt Family then targets Roman Reigns, bringing Reigns into the ring, but that is when Roman would be saved by an unlikely hero as Big Show marches towards the ring with his sights set on The Wyatt Family. Erick Rowan meets Big Show at ringside, but “The World’s Largest Athlete” slams Rowan before dropping Luke Harper with a clothesline. The giant then enters the ring, coming face-to-face with Braun Strowman, but before a titanic brawl could break out, the rest of The Wyatt Family jumps Big Show. Roman Reigns then looks to return the favor by coming to Big Show’s rescue, but Roman is caught by Strowman before Big Show grabs Strowman by the throat, sending Strowman to the outside. Roman then drops Bray Wyatt with the Superman Punch before Ambrose and Jericho jump back into the fray, sending Erick Rowan out of the ring. This leaves Luke Harper all alone in the ring as Big Show shoves Harper right into the Spear by Roman Reigns, leaving Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Chris Jericho, & Big Show standing tall in the ring.
