WWE SmackDown Results: January 21, 2016By Cassidy| January 21, 2016 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results Before he is one of thirty Superstars who will compete in the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship this Sunday night at the Royal Rumble, SmackDown kicks off with a Royal Rumble Match veteran as “Y2J” Chris Jericho makes his way to the ring. Appearing on SmackDown for the first time in over a year, Jericho says that, when he returns, “big things happen” before showing what happened on The Highlight Reel this past Monday night on RAW when the talk show segment concluded with The Wyatt Family taking out both WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and “The Beast” Brock Lesnar in a stunning display. Jericho continues, saying that Reigns may be the champion and Lesnar may be “The Beast”, but he is the “savior” of WWE and, this Sunday, he will walk out as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The six-time former World Champion is then interrupted by a group who Jericho has been having issues with since his return as WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day make their way down the ramp. Big E says that they are still “mourning” the loss of Xavier Woods’ trombone, Francesca, before Woods says that Jericho is “cold-blooded”. Kofi Kingston then says that even the “most heinous of criminals” can be “rehabilitated” before Xavier then asks everyone to bow their heads in a moment of silence for Francesca. Jericho then says that, sometimes, a unicorn is just a “jackass with a plunger stuck on his face” before saying that they can be unicorns if they want. Jericho continues, saying that they need better unicorn names, suggesting that they change their names to “Rooty”, “Tooty”, and “Booty”. This brings the WWE Tag Team Champions into the ring as Jericho tells The New Day that he would love to fight them himself, but they’ve already got a match tonight. With this, The New Day’s Royal Rumble opponents The Usos come out and, joined by Dolph Ziggler, the opening match of the night is set. Before they challenge The New Day for the WWE Tag Team Titles this Sunday at the Royal Rumble, The Usos would join forces with “The Show Off” Dolph Ziggler to face WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day in a 6-Man Tag match. In the end, it was Dolph Ziggler & The Usos hitting Xavier Woods with a triple super kick with Jey Uso pinning Xavier to pick up the win for his team. Three nights before she challenges Charlotte for the Divas Championship at the Royal Rumble, Becky Lynch was in action on SmackDown as “The Lass Kicker” would square off with Alicia Fox, with Brie Bella in her corner, with Divas Champion Charlotte and her two-time Hall of Fame father Ric Flair guests on commentary. In the end, it was Becky Lynch locking Alicia Fox in the Dis-Arm-Her, making Alicia tap out to pick up the win. With Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens set to collide in a Last Man Standing Match for the Intercontinental Championship at the Royal Rumble this Sunday, both the champion and the challenger would be guests on Miz TV on SmackDown. Before introducing his guests, The Miz would build up the viciousness of the Last Man Standing Match before he is interrupted by the first of his two guests as Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose makes his way to the ring. The Miz asks if Ambrose thinks that he can do a better job than The Miz can and, saying that he is tired of being interrupted, The Miz takes a seat in the corner, letting Ambrose continue with “Dean TV”. The Intercontinental Champion then proceeds to reveal some of his ideas for the Last Man Standing Match, saying that he is going to break Kevin Owens in half on the ring apron before turning his attention to the announce table. Ambrose continues, saying that he is bringing things “full circle” this Sunday by putting Owens through the announce table and he will be the last man standing. This brings out Kevin Owens, who says that he is “obsessed” with the Intercontinental Championship, saying that he will stop at nothing to regain the Intercontinental Title. Owens then says that Ambrose’s “insanity” will be his “downfall”, saying that, when the fight ends this Sunday, Ambrose will know it because he will be standing over Ambrose as the new Intercontinental Champion. The champion then suggests that they start their fight tonight, but with Ambrose’s attention on Owens, an angry Miz would blindside the Intercontinental Champion, beating down Dean Ambrose. The Miz then signals for Owens to come down to the ring as it looks like Miz and Owens were going to beat Ambrose down together, but Owens turns around and kicks Miz in the mid-section before planting The Miz with the Pop-Up Powerbomb! Owens then looks to do the same to the champion, but Ambrose counters, sending Owens fleeing from the ring before Ambrose picks The Miz up, spiking Miz with Dirty Deeds! Ambrose then stands tall in the ring, holding up the Intercontinental Title belt and symbolically counting to ten. Before both men join 28 other competitors in the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship this Sunday night at the Royal Rumble, the leader of The Wyatt Family was in action on SmackDown as “The Eater of Worlds” Bray Wyatt, with Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, & Braun Strowman in his corner, would go one-on-one with “The Big Guy” Ryback. During the match, Ryback had Bray Wyatt set up for Shell Shocked, but a distraction from Luke Harper would allow Erick Rowan to intervene. Bray would then throw Ryback to the outside where Braun Strowman when send Ryback shoulder-first into the steel steps before Bray brings “The Big Guy” back into the ring, hitting Sister Abigail and pinning Ryback for the win. In their continuing rivalry, Titus O’Neil would go one-on-one with Stardust on SmackDown. In the end, it was Titus O’Neil going 3-0 against Stardust, hitting the Clash of the Titus, pinning Stardust for the win. Backstage, an interview with Kalisto is interrupted by his Royal Rumble opponent, United States Champion Alberto Del Rio, as the champion says that Kalisto is “nothing”. The rest of The League of Nations then arrive, surrounding Kalisto and bullying the smaller Superstar. Rusev then holds Kalisto as Del Rio delivers several right hands to the mid-section. Rusev, King Barrett, & Alberto Del Rio then hold Kalisto in place as Sheamus blasts the high flyer with the Brogue Kick. Then it was time for the main event as, three nights before he is forced to put the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line in the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match at the Royal Rumble this Sunday, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns would have to contend with all four members of The League of Nations in a 4-on-1 Handicap Match. During the match, Sheamus, Rusev, King Barrett, & Alberto Del Rio would disregard the rules of the match, leaving the referee no choice but to end the match by disqualification. After the match, Sheamus, Barrett, & Del Rio would hold Roman Reigns up as Rusev delivers a super kick to the champion, but before The League of Nations can continue the assault, The Usos make the save for his cousin. However, The Usos would also fall to The League of Nations with Rusev taking one Uso out with a big kick and Sheamus taking out the other with the Brogue Kick. Roman would then re-enter the fray, taking Rusev out with the Superman Punch and blasting Sheamus with the Spear. However, much like on RAW, The Wyatt Family would then appear, surrounding the champion on all sides, but Reigns was ready for the fight as Roman takes it to Luke Harper & Erick Rowan, symbolically throwing Harper and Rowan over the top rope in similar fashion to the Royal Rumble Match. The champion’s onslaught would then come to an end at the hands of Braun Strowman as the mastodon tosses Reigns over the top rope to the outside where Roman is blasted with a pair of kicks by Harper & Rowan. Harper & Rowan then bring Reigns back into the ring where Strowman flattens the champion with a big slam before Bray Wyatt drops Roman with Sister Abigail as, once again, The Wyatt Family is left as the dominant force in the ring in what may very well be a sign of things to come in the Royal Rumble Match this Sunday.
