WWE SmackDown Results: December 17, 2015By Cassidy| December 18, 2015 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results After the biggest night of his career on RAW where he overcame every obstacle placed in his path, including WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon who was the recipient of the Superman Punch, to pin Sheamus and, not only keep his job, but win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, SmackDown kicks off with the brand new WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns! The new champion says that winning the title on RAW felt “so good” and doing it on his daughter’s birthday was a “godsend” before saying that they’re going to have to savor his title win because, after spearing Triple H at WWE TLC and dropping Mr. McMahon with the Superman Punch on RAW, he’s probably not going to be in WWE much longer. Roman then says that he is sure that there will be repercussions come Monday night on RAW, but this is SmackDown and, when it comes down to it, “we did it”. Roman’s moment is then interrupted by the former champion Sheamus, claiming that he is “happy” for Reigns, saying that he wants Roman to enjoy the WWE World Heavyweight Championship while he can because it won’t be long before it’s back around his waist. Sheamus continues, saying that if was up to him, he would come down there and take the title back right now, but he’s not the only person that Reigns has to worry about. Sheamus then says that, if he was Roman, he wouldn’t be expecting a “Christmas present” from the McMahon family this year. Sheamus then claims that he “stood up” for Roman, but The Authority have launched a “formal investigation” and, until the matter is resolved, the new champion is on the “sidelines”! Sheamus then explains that Roman cannot “fight”, compete in a match, and he cannot even be in the arena tonight, saying that, by the power invested in him by The Authority, he’s going to have to ask the WWE World Heavyweight Champion to leave the building! Sheamus then claims that he’s not the “bad guy”, he’s just the “messenger” and Roman says that, if Sheamus wants him to leave, then Sheamus should come down there and make him leave. Sheamus then says that he talked to Stephanie McMahon and she informed him that, if Roman refused to leave the arena, then they would have to take “alternative measures” to get him out of the building. With that, “The Celtic Warrior” brings out a team of security guards, sending the security force to escort the new champion out of the ring and out of the arena, but Reigns does not hesitate to attack the security guards, single-handedly taking out several security guards and even dropping one guard with the Superman Punch. The champion then comes face-to-face with the biggest member of the security team and the big man tries to reason with Reigns, but the last security guard is also blasted with the Superman Punch! Not taking his eyes off of the former champion, Roman Reigns would hold the WWE World Heavyweight Title belt high, letting Sheamus and The Authority know that he’s not going anywhere. Following a successful defense of the United States Championship in a Chairs Match against Jack Swagger at WWE TLC, the opening match of the night would see United States Champion Alberto Del Rio squaring off with “The Big Guy” Ryback in a non-title match. During the match, Ryback would hit the Meat Hook Clothesline on Alberto Del Rio, but that is when The League of Nations would rush out to ringside, distracting “The Big Guy” long enough for Del Rio to take advantage, locking in the Cross Armbreaker, leaving Ryback no choice but to tap out as the United States Champion picks up the win. After the match, The League of Nations was not through with Ryback as Sheamus would blast Ryback with the Brogue Kick before Rusev locks in the Accolade on Ryback, leaving “The Big Guy” face down in the ring as Sheamus, King Barrett, Rusev, & Alberto Del Rio stand tall in the ring. “Prince Pretty” was in action on SmackDown as Tyler Breeze, with Summer Rae seated in the VIP Section, would go one-on-one with Titus O’Neil. Following an awkward confrontation between Tyler Breeze, Summer Rae, and Goldust backstage, “The Bizarre One” would come out to ringside during the match, making himself at home in the VIP Section, sitting next to Summer Rae. Goldust would then put his hands on Breeze’s Selfie Stick and this would get the attention of “Prince Pretty” and Goldust would try to get Breeze in his selfie. However, Titus O’Neil would take this opportunity to strike, hitting the Clash of the Titus and pinning Tyler Breeze to pick up an unexpected win. After the match, Goldust would pose on the ring apron with the Selfie Stick while Summer Rae checks on Tyler Breeze. After surviving a wild Triple Threat Ladder Match against The Usos and The Lucha Dragons at WWE TLC, the WWE Tag Team Champions were in action on SmackDown as The New Day’s Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston, with Big E in their corner, would face The Lucha Dragons in a non-title match. During the match, Kalisto would reach for a tag to Sin Cara, but with the referee’s attention with Kofi Kingston, Big E would knock Sin Cara off of the ring apron. The New Day would then decide to celebrate a little early and it would cost the WWE Tag Team Champions as Sin Cara would sacrifice himself to not only knock Xavier Woods off of the apron, but take Big E out as well! Then, in the ring, Kalisto would catch Kofi with a powerbomb off of the second rope, pinning Kingston to pick up the win for The Lucha Dragons! With Team B.A.D. again in the front row, the Divas were in action on SmackDown as Becky Lynch would go one-on-one with Brie Bella. In the middle of the match, the Divas Champion would come out to ringside as Charlotte would be in Becky Lynch’s corner. It would not take long for Charlotte to get involved as, with the referee’s back turned, the Divas Champion would trip Brie Bella and, with full knowledge of Charlotte’s interference, Becky Lynch would lock in the Dis-Arm-Her on Brie Bella, making Brie tap out to pick up the win. After the match, Charlotte would raise the hand of her best friend, though Becky appears reluctant to be proud of her victory. Backstage, Becky Lynch confronts Charlotte to express her feelings towards winning in such an underhanded way, saying that they won on RAW because of Charlotte’s dad Ric Flair and, tonight, Charlotte helped her win. The Divas Champion argues that she’s always had Becky’s back and she’s not a “bad person” with Becky arguing that she wants to be able to win on her own “merit”. Charlotte then says that she doesn’t want Becky to “lose” and Becky takes offense to this, asking the Divas Champion if she thinks that she can’t win matches on her own. Charlotte says that’s not what she meant, but Becky says that she thinks that’s exactly what Charlotte meant. Then it was time for the main event as, after being powerbombed by Kevin Owens on RAW, “The Show Off” Dolph Ziggler would go one-on-one with former Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens. Early on in the match, the bout would spill to the outside where both Superstars would trade blows before Dolph Ziggler catches Kevin Owens with a modified version of his Zig Zag, driving the back of Owens’ head into the barricade! After catching Dolph Ziggler with a hard DDT, Kevin Owens would focus on the injured neck of Dolph Ziggler, but Dolph would somehow manage to fight back, avoiding every attempt at a Pop-Up Powerbomb by Owens before catching Owens with the super kick, but Owens would kick out. Dolph would then look for the Zig Zag, but Owens would counter as “The Prize Fighter” sends Ziggler flying over-the-top rope to the outside as Dolph lands face-first on the outside. Dolph would immediately grab his neck, writhing in pain and the referee would check on Dolph before the remorseless Kevin Owens exits the ring, picking Dolph and repeatedly delivering sledgehammer-like blows directly to Dolph’s neck. Owens then hurls Dolph over the announce table before the referee finally calls for the bell, disqualifying Kevin Owens. Despite the beating, Dolph Ziggler would then dive off of the announce table onto Kevin Owens, but Ziggler would only get a few shots in before Owens shoves Dolph into the steel steps. Owens then sets his sights on ending the career of Dolph Ziggler, setting Dolph up for a powerbomb on the steel steps, but thankfully for Dolph, Dean Ambrose would make the save. As soon as the Intercontinental Champion enters the ring, he is met by Kevin Owens as the two Superstars trade blows with Ambrose nearly hitting Dirty Deeds before Owens escapes the ring. However, Owens would spot a helpless Dolph Ziggler trying to make his way to the back and Owens would put Dolph down with a super kick as Ambrose would then hop out of the ring to check on Ziggler, but when Ziggler pulls himself to his feet, he drops the Intercontinental Champion with a super kick! Dolph then collapses back on the floor as Kevin Owens laughs at the scene before him with Ambrose laid out and Ziggler holding his neck. What did you think of this week’s SmackDown?
