WWE SmackDown Results: July 9, 2015By Cassidy| July 9, 2015 WWE SmackDown Previous Page Detailed Results After witnessing the destruction of J&J Security, as well as their brand new Cadillac CTS, at the hands of his Battleground opponent Brock Lesnar on RAW, SmackDown would kick off with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. The champion says that he did the “unthinkable” on RAW when he called out Brock Lesnar, saying that he gave Lesnar the opportunity to face him in the ring and prove that he is the “beast” that everyone says he is. Rollins then says that Lesnar proved that he was a “coward” on RAW, saying that Brock took his frustrations out on his brand new Cadillac CTS. The champion continues, saying that Jamie Noble had his arm snapped in the Kimura Lock while Joey Mercury got suplexed on the hood of the car. Rollins then says that the car was a gift for his “family” and Lesnar messed with his family and, at Battleground, he is going to “humiliate” Brock Lesnar. The champion’s address is then interrupted by the sound of a flatbed truck backing into the arena with the destroyed Cadillac CTS on the back before Brock Lesnar’s advocate Paul Heyman comes out to the stage. Heyman says that he could come out there with all kinds of metaphors, but the metaphor that does apply is that the damage done to the Cadillac CTS “pales in comparison” to the damage that will be done to Seth Rollins at Battleground. Heyman continues, saying that Brock Lesnar will drag Seth Rollins down to “Suplex City”. The champion argues that the destroyed car is a metaphor for what Brock Lesnar is going to look like after Battleground, saying that Heyman will be “all alone” after Battleground because Heyman will no longer have a client! The brash Rollins reminds Paul Heyman that he reunited The Authority and led the beat down of Brock Lesnar a couple of weeks ago. Heyman then vows that, come Battleground, Brock Lesnar will have his foot on the chest of Rollins with the WWE World Heavyweight Title in his possession. Rollins then interrupts Heyman’s declaration, proclaiming that he will be walking out of Battleground as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. In a rematch from RAW, the opening match of the night would see “The Lunatic Fringe” Dean Ambrose square off with Bo Dallas. Despite an aggressive performance from Bo Dallas, Dean Ambrose would reign supreme as “The Lunatic Fringe” plants Bo Dallas with Dirty Deeds, pinning Dallas for the win. After revealing on RAW that he is no longer injured before assaulting Dolph Ziggler and leaving “The Showoff” with a bruised trachea, Rusev would return to action on SmackDown as “The Bulgarian Brute”, with Summer Rae in his corner, would go one-on-one with Fandango. Rusev would pick up right where he left off before his injury, locking in the Accolade on Fandango, making the dancing Superstar tap out to pick up the win. After the match, Rusev would lock in the Accolade a second time before having Summer Rae raise his hand in victory. Before he goes one-on-one with Bray Wyatt in ten nights at Battleground, Roman Reigns was in action on SmackDown as “The Big Dog” would go one-on-one with “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show. During the match, Roman Reigns was set to deliver the Superman Punch to Big Show, but, much like on RAW, Bray Wyatt comes out. However, it was again an imposter as Bray Wyatt would try to get the jump on Roman Reigns from behind, but Roman would turn around and blast Bray with the Superman Punch, knocking Wyatt off of the ring apron! Roman then catches Big Show with two Superman Punches, but when Reigns goes for the Spear, Bray pulls Reigns into the steel ring post from the outside, ending the match by disqualification. Big Show then delivers a chokeslam to Roman Reigns, leaving the ring and leaving Roman all alone with Bray Wyatt. Bray then picks the bones of Roman Reigns, measuring Roman before hitting Sister Abigail on Roman, leaving his Battleground opponent laid out in the ring. Before The Prime Time Players defend the WWE Tag Team Titles against The New Day at Battleground, one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions Titus O’Neil, with Darren Young in his corner, would go one-on-one with The New Day’s Big E, with Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston in his corner. During the match, Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston would get on the ring apron, attempting to get involved in the match and, as a result, the referee would eject Xavier & Kofi from ringside. This would allow Titus O’Neil to hit the Clash of the Titus on Big E, pinning the powerhouse to pick up the win. After returning on RAW, attacking Sheamus and leaving “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” face down in the middle of the ring following the RKO, “The Viper” Randy Orton would make an appearance on SmackDown. Randy Orton says that he has made countless enemies during his time in WWE, but no one has gotten under his skin more than Sheamus. Orton says that he is going to attempt to make Sheamus “entertaining” by ripping off Sheamus’ Mohawk and shoving it up his “pale, white arse”. Having delivered his short and sweet message, Randy Orton was set to leave the ring when The Ascension comes out, saying that Orton can either leave the ring or he can stay and “fall prey to two hungry wolves”. Konnor then gets in Orton’s face, telling “The Viper” to leave before they personally introduce him to “the wasteland”. However, Orton strikes with an RKO to Konnor before planting Viktor with the suspended DDT and hitting an RKO on Viktor, as well, single-handedly leaving The Ascension lying. Team Bella would be on SmackDown as Brie Bella & Alicia Fox, with Divas Champion Nikki Bella in their corner, would face Naomi & Tamina. In the end, it was a distraction by Nikki Bella that would allow Brie Bella & Alicia Fox to pick up the win as Alicia Fox hits the Scissors Kick, pinning Tamina for the win. Then it was time for the main event as, in a Champion vs. Champion match, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins would go one-on-one with Intercontinental Champion Ryback. During the match, after narrowly avoiding Shell Shocked, Seth Rollins would try to take his title belt and leave, but Ryback would refuse to let the WWE World Heavyweight Champion escape, capturing Rollins and attempting to hit Shell Shocked on the arena floor. However, Rollins would escape the grasp of the Intercontinental Champion, escaping into the crowd before re-emerging on the stage, taking a count-out loss to Ryback. After the match, Big Show would come out and, with “The World’s Largest Athlete” by his side, Rollins would come back down to ringside as Rollins and Big Show attack Ryback before Roman Reigns makes the save, connecting with the Spear to Big Show. Rollins then tries to hit the Pedigree on Reigns, but Roman counters, shoving Rollins right into Ryback, who plants the WWE World Heavyweight Champion with Shell Shocked! Ryback and Roman Reigns then stand tall in the ring as Rollins stumbles up to the stage, clutching the WWE World Heavyweight Title. What did you think of this week’s SmackDown?
