WWE Battleground 2015 ResultsBy Cassidy| July 19, 2015 WWE PPVs Previous Page Detailed Results WWE Battleground kicks off with a battle of pure distain as St. Louis’ own “Viper” Randy Orton would go one-on-one with “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Sheamus. During the match, the intense match would spill to the outside where Randy Orton would hoist Sheamus up and drop “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” back-first onto the announce table before the match returns to the ring. Shortly after this, Randy Orton would dodge the Brogue Kick and Sheamus would counter the RKO before “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” scores with White Noise, but “The Viper” kicks out. Later on in the match, Orton would hit the suspended DDT on Sheamus before going for the RKO, but Sheamus would counter again, nearly surprising Orton with a roll-up. “The Viper” would kick out of the roll-up and Sheamus would strike quickly with the Brogue Kick, but Sheamus would collapse as well, unable to make the cover. Sheamus was the first to his feet and “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” would drag Randy Orton into the middle of the ring before locking in the Cloverleaf with Orton eventually being able to crawl to the bottom rope, forcing the break. Sheamus would then try to pick up Orton, but “The Viper” would strike out of nowhere, scoring with the RKO and pinning Sheamus for a hard-fought win in front of his hometown crowd. The WWE Tag Team Championship would then be decided at Battleground as The Prime Time Players would defend the WWE Tag Team Titles against The New Day’s Big E & Kofi Kingston, with Xavier Woods in their corner. Despite Xavier Woods’ best efforts to get involved on behalf of his New Day cohorts, Titus O’Neil would hit the Clash of the Titus on Big E, pinning Big E to successfully retain the WWE Tag Team Titles for The Prime Time Players. After weeks of mental warfare and cryptic messages, it would all come down to a physical collision at Battleground as “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns would go one-on-one with “The New Face of Fear” Bray Wyatt. During a hotly contested match between Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt where neither man could seemingly put away the other, Bray Wyatt would head to the outside and grab a couple of steel chairs. However, Reigns would knock Bray down and throw the chairs into the ring, but with the referee’s attention on getting the steel chairs out of the ring, a hooded individual would emerge, blasting Roman with a super kick! Bray Wyatt then rolls Reigns back into the ring, planting Reigns with Sister Abigail and pinning Reigns for the win. After the match, the mystery man would reveal himself to be none other than former Wyatt Family member Luke Harper! Bray Wyatt then kneels in the middle of the ring as Luke Harper stands by his side, re-forging a dangerous alliance. Per the orders of WWE Principal Owner Stephanie McMahon, a representative of Team Bella, Team B.A.D., and the trio of Paige, Charlotte, & Becky Lynch would face off in a Triple Threat Match. All three contingents would make their way to the ring before it would appear that Divas Champion Nikki Bella, second-generation competitor Charlotte, and NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks would represent their teams, but at the last minute, Nikki would decide that her sister Brie would represent Team Bella in the match as the Triple Threat Match gets underway. During the match, a standoff would take place on the outside with Sasha Banks diving to the outside, taking down three of the Divas on the outside before Charlotte follows it up with a dive of her own, taking out Team B.A.D. Shortly after this, Sasha Banks would lock in the Bank Statement on Charlotte, but Brie Bella would break it up, knocking the NXT Women’s Champion out of the ring. Brie then goes for the Bella Buster, but Charlotte counters, locking in the Figure-Eight, making Brie tap out to pick up the win in the Triple Threat Match. In an intense rivalry that has produced two classic matches, the rubber match would take place at Battleground as John Cena would defend the prestigious United States Championship against the brash and disrespectful Kevin Owens. During the match, Kevin Owens would use John Cena’s own Attitude Adjustment against him before Owens utilizes Cena’s STF submission, but Cena would make it to the ropes. Shortly after this, Cena would connect with the Springboard Stunner, but Owens would rebound with a clothesline, leaving both men down. Owens then utilizes a modified shoulder breaker on John Cena, but the champion would kick out and, when Owens goes for the Pop-Up Powerbomb, Cena counters, hitting the Attitude Adjustment, but Owens kicks out. Kevin Owens would then hit the Pop-Up Powerbomb, but Cena would kick out again as the match continues. John Cena would then take to the top rope, hitting a huge Attitude Adjustment on Kevin Owens off of the top rope, but Owens would somehow kick out, leaving the United States Champion in a state of shock. Owens then manages a roll-up, but Cena kicks out before locking in the STF on Kevin Owens, pulling Owens away from the ropes and Owens has no choice but to tap out as John Cena survives another classic match with Kevin Owens, successfully retaining the United States Championship. With Intercontinental Champion Ryback unable to defend the title due to a severe staph infection, one of his two originally scheduled opponents, The Miz, would make an appearance at Battleground. The Miz claims that he was going to defeat Ryback and Big Show and become the new Intercontinental Champion, but Ryback’s injured has postponed their match. The Miz continues, saying that Ryback has always been the “big pansy”, saying that Ryback is “scared” of him because he is the “toughest man” in the arena. The Miz then says that Ryback is out with an injury and Big Show has been “missing since the Attitude Era” and, if Big Show was smart, he would do what everyone wants him to do and “retire”. The Miz then says that The Authority should award him the Intercontinental Championship before Big Show interrupts. “The World’s Largest Athlete” makes his way to the ring and The Miz immediately tries to back down from the comments he just made, but Big Show would enter the ring, shut The Miz up with the Knockout Punch, and leave the ring, saying so much without saying a word. Then it was time for one of the most anticipated championship matches in recent memory as “The Beast” Brock Lesnar would finally get the opportunity to, not only destroy Seth Rollins, but regain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship that he was never pinned to lose at WrestleMania as Brock Lesnar, with Paul Heyman in his corner, would challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and, thanks to Brock Lesnar, Rollins would be forced to go it alone without Kane and without J&J Security. Early on in the match, Brock Lesnar would dominate Seth Rollins to the point that Rollins would try to escape through the crowd, but “The Beast” would not allow that to happen and, while the champion manages to get a few shots in on Lesnar, Brock would continue to dominate the match, tossing Rollins around the ring with an unreal thirteen suplexes before planting Seth Rollins with the F-5. However, when Brock Lesnar goes for the cover, the lights go out in the arena and an unmistakable gong rings out and, when the lights come back on, Brock Lesnar is face-to-face with none other than The Undertaker! Just as shocked as the rest of the world, Brock Lesnar would stare at the angry Undertaker before taking a shot at “The Deadman”, but when Lesnar goes for the F-5, “The Phenom” delivers a low blow to Lesnar! The Undertaker then plants “The Beast” with a chokeslam before picking Brock Lesnar up and spiking Lesnar in the center of the ring with the Tombstone Piledriver! The Undertaker then glares at Paul Heyman and the fans in attendance before starting to leave the ring, but when “The Deadman” spots Brock Lesnar getting to his feet, The Undertaker comes back, picking Lesnar up again and spiking Lesnar with a second Tombstone Piledriver! The Undertaker then exits the ring, looking back one more time at Brock Lesnar laid out in the ring before raising his fist in the air and walking to the back, having shocked the world with his return and left the man who ended his undefeated WrestleMania streak laid out in the middle of the ring.
