WWE: Popular Masked Wrestler Signed to Developmental Deal!By Cassidy| January 10, 2013 Wrestling News PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE has signed the masked independent star, El Generico (Rami Sebel), to a developmental contract and is expected to debut in NXT soon. WWE had several reasons for signing El Generico to the company as the world-traveled wrestler speaks several different languages and that is always something that the WWE needs more of to appeal to international audiences. The more obvious reasons for El Generico’s signing is that Generico is a veteran of the independent scene and has gained a huge cult following during his time in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, CHIKARA, and Ring of Honor. With the major success that the WWE has had with former ROH stars like CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, & Seth Rollins, El Generico is the latest to catch the eye of the WWE. El Generico is most notable for his time in Ring of Honor, where he competed for seven years, although the ‘open contracts’ that ROH stars typically receive allow them to compete for certain other promotions, as long as ROH approves. It’s being rumored that the WWE may have El Generico compete without a mask, but that is still up in the air. El Generico is reportedly just one of the major independent stars that the WWE is looking to sign to a deal as WWE Executive Vice President of Talent and Events Triple H is looking to sign Adam Cole and Sami Calihan to contracts sooner than later with several more names expected to be pursued soon.
