WWE Survivor Series 2011 ResultsBy Cassidy| November 21, 2011 WWE PPVs The Rock lays the smackdown on Awesome Truth and John Cena. The 25th anniversary of WWE Survivor Series came to you, live on pay-per-view, from “The World’s Most Famous Arena” Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY. Four months before they go one-on-one in one of the biggest matches in WWE history at WrestleMania XXVIII, the legendary Superstar turned actor The Rock returns to where his WWE career began fifteen years ago to team with his WrestleMania opponent, John Cena, to face the duo known as Awesome Truth, The Miz & R-Truth. In a rivalry that has been boiling since SummerSlam in August, “The Voice of the Voiceless” CM Punk gets his shot at redemption and regaining the WWE Title when he challenges Alberto Del Rio for the WWE Championship. After their titanic title match at Vengeance that left the ring in shambles, the two big men would face off once again as “The World’s Strongest Champion” Mark Henry defends the World Heavyweight Championship against “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show. In a match that has defined Survivor Series since its inception, Randy Orton captains a team consisting of “The Great White” Sheamus, “The International Sensation” Sin Cara, “The Cardiff Powerhouse” Mason Ryan, and WWE Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston as Team Orton faces Team Barrett which consists of team captain Wade Barrett, Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes, “The Mexican Assassin” Hunico, United States Champion Dolph Ziggler, & “The All-American American” Jack Swagger in a Traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Elimination Tag Match. Not only will Dolph Ziggler be a part of Team Barrett in the Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Match, but Dolph will also defend the United States Title against “The Prince of Parkour” John Morrison. After becoming the #1 Contender in a Divas Battle Royal on Halloween last month, Eve would get her shot at the gold as she challenges Beth Phoenix for the Divas Title in a Lumberjill Match. Match Results United States Championship: Dolph Ziggler (c) (with Vickie Guerrero) def. John Morrison by pin following the Zig Zag to retain. Divas Championship: Lumberjill Match: Beth Phoenix (c) (with Natalya & The Bella Twins) def. Eve by pin following a Super Glam Slam to retain. Traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Elimination Tag Match: Team Barrett def. Team Orton with Wade Barrett & Cody Rhodes as the sole survivors. World Heavyweight Championship: Big Show def. Mark Henry (c) by DQ following a low blow. Mark Henry (c) retains. WWE Championship: CM Punk def. Alberto Del Rio (c) (with Ricardo Rodriguez) by submission to the Anaconda Vise to win the WWE Title. The Rock & John Cena def. The Miz & R-Truth by The Rock pinning The Miz following the People’s Elbow. Detailed Results Survivor Series kicks off with gold on the line as, in his first of two matches at Survivor Series, Dolph Ziggler, with Vickie Guerrero in his corner, defends the United States Title against “The Prince of Parkour” John Morrison. During the match, John Morrison looked moments from victory as he pinned Dolph Ziggler, but Vickie Guerrero would put Dolph’s foot on the bottom rope, interrupting the count. However, the referee spotted Vickie’s deed and ejected Vickie from ringside. In the end, it was Dolph Ziggler hitting the Zig Zag on John Morrison en route to picking up the win and successfully retaining the United States Title. After the match, Dolph Ziggler crowed about how good he is, but the MSG crowd would get what they wanted as Zack Ryder rushes out, attacking Dolph Ziggler and laying the United States Champion out with the Rough Ryder Leg Lariat! The Divas Title was also on the line at the event as, with Divas surrounding the ring, “The Glamazon” Beth Phoenix defends the Divas Title against Eve in a Lumberjill Match. In the end, it was Beth Phoenix hitting an unreal Glam Slam from the top rope on Eve en route to successfully retaining the Divas Title. Backstage, the one and only The Rock recalls his beginnings in Madison Square Garden where he was twelve years old, hanging out with Andre The Giant, and watching his father, Rocky Johnson, compete. Then, at Survivor Series in 1996, he made his debut and, on that night, he became “The People’s Champion”. Rock continues that, after seven years, The Rock will return to action and will do so in New York City. Rock then turns his attention to his tag team partner, John Cena, telling Cena that he did not come alone as he brought the fans with him. The Rock then proclaims that it will be “boots to asses all night long if you smell what The Rock is cooking”! Then it was time for the Traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Elimination Tag Match as Randy Orton captains Team Orton, which consists of Sheamus, Sin Cara, Mason Ryan, & WWE Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston, to face Wade Barrett, who captains Team Barrett, which consists of Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes, Hunico, United States Champion Dolph Ziggler, & Jack Swagger. It did not take long for Team Orton to establish an advantage as Randy Orton plants Dolph Ziggler with the RKO en route to eliminating the United States Champion from the match. Shortly after this, all hell would break loose in the match and, at the end of the chaos, the high-flyers Sin Cara and Kofi Kingston leapt over the top rope, taking out Hunico and Jack Swagger. However, an awkward landing by Sin Cara would take Cara out of the match with an injury to his leg, leaving the match even with four Superstars remaining on each team. The next elimination came as a result of a blind tag by Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes, who hits the Cross Rhodes on Mason Ryan en route to eliminating the powerhouse, leaving Team Orton at a one man disadvantage. The next elimination came from team captain Wade Barrett as Barrett hits Wasteland on Kofi Kingston en route to eliminating the WWE Tag Team Champion, leaving only Randy Orton and Sheamus on Team Orton to face the four members of Team Barrett. The next elimination saw Sheamus eliminate himself as Sheamus continued to pummel Jack Swagger, ignoring the referee’s five count, leaving the referee no other option but to disqualify “The Great White”, but before leaving the ring, Sheamus would blast Swagger with the Brogue Kick. This allows Randy Orton to slide in and pin Jack Swagger to eliminate Swagger from the match. Despite eliminating Jack Swagger, Randy Orton was still left alone to face the three remaining members of Team Barrett. Shortly after this, Hunico looked to get the jump on Randy Orton, but Orton catches Hunico in mid-air with the RKO en route to eliminating Hunico from the match. Shortly after this, Orton catches Cody Rhodes with the RKO, but the distraction allowed Wade Barrett to hit Wasteland on Orton en route to Barrett leading his team to victory with himself and Cody Rhodes as the sole survivors! With the ring reinforced, it was then time for the World Heavyweight Title to be on the line as “The World’s Strongest Champion” Mark Henry defends the World Heavyweight Title against “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show. During the match, Mark Henry plants Big Show with the World’s Strongest Slam, but Big Show manages to kick out. Henry then follows this up with a big splash, which Show also kicks out of. Henry then tries for an elbow drop, but Big Show kicks out of that too. Mark Henry then takes Big Show to the outside of the ring where Henry tackles Big Show, sending Show through the ringside barricade! Mark Henry then re-enters the ring, hoping for a count-out win, but Big Show narrowly manages to make it back into the ring before the count of ten. Despite all this punishment, Big Show somehow managed to fight back, hitting a superkick on Mark Henry before “The World’s Largest Athlete” actually ascended to the top rope before dropping all of his near 500 pounds onto Henry in an unreal, giant elbow drop! After Mark Henry managed to kick out after the elbow drop, Big Show was ready to hit the W.M.D. on Mark Henry, but Henry ducks the right hand and delivers a blatant low blow to Big Show, leaving the referee no choice but to call for the disqualification, allowing Mark Henry to retain the World Heavyweight Title. After the match, Mark Henry grabbed a steel chair with the intent of breaking Big Show’s ankle again, but when Henry looked to drop onto the ankle, Show narrowly avoided the move. Big Show then rose to his feet, delivering the W.M.D. to the World Heavyweight Champion! Big Show was not done, however, as Show looked to extract revenge on Mark Henry. Show then places the steel chair around the ankle of Henry before delivering a big leg drop to the ankle! EMT’s then rush to the ring to tend to the World Heavyweight Champion as Mark Henry refuses any assistance. What is the status of Mark Henry following this attack by Big Show? What is the status of the World Heavyweight Championship? Before the match, Ricardo Rodriguez did his trademark ring introduction of Alberto Del Rio, but it is trumped by CM Punk’s personal ring announcer, the WWE Hall of Famer Howard Finkel! Then it was time for the WWE Championship to be put on the line as Alberto Del Rio defends the WWE Title against “The Voice of the Voiceless” CM Punk. Despite the best efforts of Ricardo Rodriguez and even clawing at the face of CM Punk, Alberto Del Rio succumbed to the Anaconda Vise as Punk forced Del Rio to tap out to be crowned the new WWE Champion! After promising to change things in the WWE once he became WWE Champion, what does Punk have in store for RAW now that he is the WWE Champion? Then it was time for the main event as, four months before they go one-on-one at WrestleMania XXVIII, the one and only “Great One” The Rock returns to the ring for the first time in seven years to team with John Cena to face The Miz & R-Truth! During the match, John Cena took it upon himself to get The Miz out of the ring, but this distracts the referee from the cover that The Rock had on R-Truth, leading to words being exchanged between Rock & Cena. At the end of an electrifying match, it was The Rock hitting the People’s Elbow on The Miz en route to picking up the win for himself and John Cena! After the match, The Rock would allow John Cena to come into the ring so that the two of them could compete for cheers from the crowd with the audience clearly favoring The Rock. Afterword, The Rock and John Cena would go face-to-face, but as soon as Cena turned his back on The Rock, Rock plants Cena with the Rock Bottom. What will happen between now and April 1 when The Rock and John Cena go one-on-one on the grand stage of WrestleMania XXVIII? What did you think of Survivor Series?
