The 640th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown was a special Holiday edition of SmackDown and it came to you, live, from the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC. The Holiday SmackDown was overseen by none other than three-time WWE Champion and “Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley as “Jolly Ol’ St. Mick” brings some Holiday cheer to SmackDown. After coming so close to winning the World Heavyweight Title, even having the gold in his hands, last week, “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Daniel Bryan gets his shot at the gold as Bryan challenges the man who tried to end his career a few weeks ago, “The World’s Strongest Champion” Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Championship inside an unforgiving Steel Cage! Detailed Results With the SmackDown stage adorned with Holiday decorations, the show kicks off with the host of the live Holiday special, “Jolly Old St. Mick” Mick Foley. Foley says that, while there are still four weeks until Christmas, he is a “Christmas fanatic”, saying that what J.R. is to BBQ and what The Ultimate Warrior is to colorful arm tassels, he is to Christmas. Foley then says he has got a World Heavyweight Title match in his “bag of goodies” as “Tiny Tim” Daniel Bryan will face “The Ghost of Christmas Fear” Mark Henry inside a Steel Cage. Foley continues that they have a Miracle on 34th Street Fight planned, as well as an All I Want For Christmas Over-The-Top Rope Battle Royal where the winner will get his wish granted by Santa Clause himself. Foley then says that, while he cannot promise a SmackDown free of Michael Cole due to airtight clauses in Cole’s contract, there is nothing in Cole’s contract about what the self-proclaimed “Voice of the WWE” must wear for the show. Foley then brings out Michael Cole, who is wearing a reindeer outfit, complete with a red nose and a necktie. The reindeer-suited Cole then takes his seat next to fellow commentator Josh Mathews, who is wearing an elf costume. Foley then introduces the man missing from the announce position as six-time World Champion Booker T comes out dressed as Santa Clause. Foley tells Booker that he does not want to leave the Jewish members of the audience, asking Booker to make like a dreadil and spin with the Spin-a-Rooni. Booker does what is asked before proclaiming that he can “dig” Christmas. However, Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes comes out as “The Grinch” of the Holiday celebration states that he is seeing a “lowly announcing” making a fool out of him and taking time away from people like him who still have the “skills” to compete. Booker T says that Rhodes should not think for one minute that he cannot handle his business in the ring. Rhodes says that Booker has a problem with him because Booker will never hold something like the Intercontinental Title over his head again because Booker will never be able to call himself a “champion” again. Mick Foley then interjects, saying that Booker is a “legend” and a good friend of his, adding that Rhodes is directly affecting his ability to enjoy the Holidays. Foley then announces a match pitting Cody Rhodes against Booker T, a match that Booker looks reluctant to accept, but do so nonetheless. Can Booker T beat some respect into Cody Rhodes or will the Intercontinental Champion get the better of the six-time World Champion? With Alicia Fox, Natalya, A.J., Kaitlyn, Aksana, Rosa Mendes, Tamina, & The Bella Twins all wearing their Holiday-themed gear in the ring, ready to compete, Mick Foley announces that they will be taking part in a special Mistletoe-on-a-Pole Match, where the Diva who takes the mistletoe from the pole set up in the corner will get a “special gift” they can cash in at any time from now until Christmas. In the end, it was Brie Bella using her sister, Nikki, as a platform to assist her in retrieving the mistletoe that would win the match. Brie seemed to think that she had earned a future shot at the Divas Title, but Mick Foley informs Brie that her reward is a kiss from any Superstar that she chooses between now and Christmas. After his criticism of Ted DiBiase last week, Jinder Mahal was in action on the Holiday SmackDown as Mahal went one-on-one with Justin Gabriel. During the match, Ted DiBiase came out with a bag of presents to hand out to the audience, distracting Jinder Mahal long enough for Justin Gabriel to take advantage as Gabriel hits the 450 Splash on Mahal to pick up the win. Backstage, a festive Holiday party with the likes of Goldust and Hall of Famers Dusty Rhodes and Roddy Piper is nearly brought to halt by the Harvard grad, David Otunga. However, the host of the show, Mick Foley, informs Otunga that Otunga will be in action on SmackDown as Otunga will face Randy Orton in the Miracle on 34th Street Fight! Backstage, Booker T is being interviewed moments before his scheduled match with Cody Rhodes when Rhodes comes out of nowhere, attacking Booker from behind. Rhodes then uses his Intercontinental Title belt to waylay Booker in the shoulder with it, leaving Booker wincing with pain on the floor, unable to compete. One-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions was in action on the Holiday SmackDown as Kofi Kingston went one-on-one with Tyson Kidd. During the match, Kofi Kingston confronts Michael Cole at ringside before taking the reindeer hood and nose from Cole. Kofi then puts the hood and nose on before flying off the top rope with a high cross body on Tyson Kidd en route to picking up the win. Then it was time for the Miracle on 34th Street Fight as “The Viper” Randy Orton went one-on-one with the Harvard Law graduate, David Otunga, with various Christmas trees and presents placed around ringside. It does not take long for the action to spill to the outside where Randy Orton sends David Otunga into Christmas trees. Shortly after this, Orton takes a baking sheet full of cookies, tossing the cookies to the side and taking a bite of one before using the baking sheet as a weapon on Otunga. After chucking a present at the head of Otunga on the ramp, Orton sends Otunga into a pair of full-grown Christmas trees on the stage. Orton then takes Otunga back to ringside where he plants the Harvard Law grad with a suspended DDT on the arena floor. However, Wade Barrett then blindsides Orton, sending him into the ring post and blasting Orton with a big boot. Barrett then rolls Orton into the ring before sending Otunga back into the ring, where Otunga covers Orton, but Orton kicks out. Orton then manages to fight back, hitting the RKO on Otunga en route to picking up the win. Then it was time for the All I Want For Christmas Over-The-Top Rope Battle Royal as “The Great White” Sheamus, Hunico, Ezekiel Jackson, Jinder Mahal, Ted DiBiase, Curt Hawkins, Tyler Reks, Heath Slater, Darren Young, Tyson Kidd, Yoshi Tatsu, Johnny Curtis, JTG, Justin Gabriel, Titus O’Neil, Percy Watson, Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, WWE Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston, and even Hornswoggle competed in the 20-Man Battle Royal with the winner getting their wish granted by Santa Clause himself. Sheamus scores the first elimination, sending Darren Young to the outside, followed by one of the Usos getting eliminated. Hunico then eliminates JTG, followed by Ezekiel Jackson hurling Curt Hawkins out of the ring. Then, in a battle of powerhouses, Sheamus outmaneuvers Ezekiel Jackson, sending Ezekiel to the outside and out of the match. Sheamus follows this up by eliminating Johnny Curtis, followed shortly by Kofi Kingston eliminating the remaining Uso from the match. Tyson Kidd then catches Kofi off-guard, managing to eliminate the Superstar that defeated him earlier in the night. Kidd then eliminates Yoshi Tatsu before managing to eliminate Ted DiBiase moments. Then, after being under the ring since the beginning of the match, Hornswoggle emerges from under the ring, pulling Tyson Kidd’s leg, resulting in Kidd being eliminated, followed shortly by Jinder Mahal eliminating Percy Watson. Jinder Mahal then eliminates Justin Gabriel, the man who defeated him earlier in the show. Sheamus then takes Titus O’Neil out of the match shortly before Sheamus goes toe-to-toe with Tyler Reks. The fight between the two spills to the outside of the ring where Hunico, Heath Slater, and Jinder Mahal join the fray, all four men attacking Sheamus, sending “The Great White” into the ringside barricade. All four Superstars then pull Hornswoggle out from under the ring, surrounding him in the ring before they bully the pint-sized Superstar. However, Sheamus recovers and re-enters the ring, eliminating Tyler Reks, Hunico, Jinder Mahal, and sending Heath Slater packing with a Brogue Kick that sends Slater over the top rope. Sheamus then realizes that it is down to him and Hornswoggle as “The Great White” instructs Hornswoggle to leave the ring, but Hornswoggle tells Sheamus to leave before kicking him in the shin. The short-tempered Irishman then tries to send Hornswoggle over the top rope, but Hornswoggle latches onto the top rope, forcing Sheamus to step over the top rope and unhook Hornswoggle from the top rope. With both of them standing on the ring apron, Sheamus again tells Hornswoggle to eliminate himself. However, Hornswoggle then acts like he wants a hug from Sheamus, but Hornswoggle knocks Sheamus off of the apron as Hornswoggle does the impossible, winning the All I Want For Christmas, allowing Hornswoggle to get any wish he wants from Santa. Backstage, Hornswoggle tells Santa his wish and, with some translation from Sheamus, Hornswoggle reveals that he wants the ability to talk. Then, a “magical hug” from Santa takes place and Hornswoggle is able to talk. Hornswoggle then uses his new vocabulary to point out The Bella Twins and tell Dusty Rhodes and Roddy Piper he can talk before Mick Foley shows up, asking what he missed. Then it was time for the much-anticipated main event as the less-than-100% “World’s Strongest Champion” Mark Henry defends the World Heavyweight Title against “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Daniel Bryan in the unforgiving Steel Cage Match with the Superstar emerging as the champion defending the gold against Big Show at WWE TLC. Despite the best efforts of Daniel Bryan, the size and power of Mark Henry proved to be too much as Henry would deliver the World’s Strongest Slam off of the top rope to Bryan, making sure that Daniel Bryan stayed down for the three count to successfully retain the World Heavyweight Title. Now that Mark Henry knows his next title defense will be against Big Show at WWE TLC, what will happen when these two giants collide again at WWE TLC? Will Mark Henry try to get disqualified again to retain the World Heavyweight Title? Will a new champion be crowned in Baltimore? What did you think of the live Holiday SmackDown?
