WWE Friday Night SmackDown October 21, 2011 ResultsBy Cassidy| October 21, 2011 WWE SmackDown WMD tres veces. Two nights before Vengeance, the 635th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown would make history as, for the first time in history, SmackDown emanates from the Palacio de los Deportes (Sports Palace) in Mexico City, Mexico. In their hometown of Mexico City, the Sin Cara saga comes to an end as Sin Cara Azul goes one-on-one with Sin Cara Negro in a Mask vs. Mask Match where the loser of the match will be forced to unmask in front of the Mexican crowd! Also, two nights before he defends the WWE Title against John Cena in a Last Man Standing Match at Vengeance, WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio goes one-on-one with “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show, just two nights before Big Show challenges Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Title at Vengeance. Match Results Non-Title: Mark Henry def. John Morrison by pin following the World’s Strongest Slam. Wade Barrett def. Daniel Bryan by pin following Wasteland. Sheamus & Zack Ryder def. Christian & Dolph Ziggler by Sheamus pinning Dolph Ziggler following the Brogue Kick. Mask vs. Mask: Sin Cara Azul def. Sin Cara Negro by submission to a tilt-a-whirl headscissors armbar. As a result, Sin Cara Negro is forced to unmask. Non-Title: Big Show def. Alberto Del Rio by DQ after Ricardo Rodriguez interferes. Detailed Results The first SmackDown in Mexico kicks off with the WWE Champion as Mexico City’s own Alberto Del Rio, along with his personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez, open the show. The WWE Champion states that he will be defending the WWE Title against John Cena in a Last Man Standing Match this Sunday at Vengeance before saying that he was scheduled to go one-on-one with Big Show, but that is not going to happen. Del Rio then shows footage from the RAW SuperShow where John Cena blasted him with the steel steps, citing that as his reason for not being able to compete. Del Rio continues that it was his “dream” to wrestle in front of his hometown crowd, but Cena ruined it before vowing that he will walk out of Vengeance as the WWE Champion. Just as Del Rio is getting ready to exit the ring, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long comes out and reveals that Del Rio has been cleared to compete. The GM then accuses the WWE Champion of being afraid to face Big Show and Del Rio responds by saying he will make Big Show tap out, prompting Long to make the match official! Two nights before he defends the World Heavyweight Title against Big Show at Vengeance, World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry was in action on SmackDown as “The World’s Strongest Champion” went one-on-one with John Morrison. Despite an impressive effort by John Morrison, the power of Mark Henry would win out as Henry plants Morrison with the World’s Strongest Slam en route to picking up the win. How will Mark Henry fare at Vengeance when the World Heavyweight Champion is actually outweighed by Big Show? Backstage, Vickie Guerrero is talking with Christian when SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long enters. Christian tells the GM that Long is a joke as the General Manager since Long will not give him the one more match he deserves. Long then agrees to give Christian his “one more match” and it will be against Sheamus this Sunday at Vengeance! The GM then confronts Vickie Guerrero as Long tells Vickie that Vickie got what she wanted with Dolph Ziggler & Jack Swagger getting a shot at the WWE Tag Team Titles at Vengeance before announcing that he is going to get what he wants as Dolph Ziggler will defend the United States Title against Zack Ryder at Vengeance! With having to compete in two matches on the same night, is there any way that Dolph Ziggler can hang on to the United States Title and win the WWE Tag Team Titles with Jack Swagger? In a renewal of their rivalry, former Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett went one-on-one with “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Daniel Bryan on SmackDown. In the end, it was Wade Barrett hitting Wasteland on Daniel Bryan en route to picking up the win and continuing the losing streak of “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank”. Two nights before their respective matches against each other at Vengeance, “The Great White” Sheamus teams with “The Woo Woo Woo Kid” Zack Ryder to face “Mr. One More Match” Christian and the United States Champion, Dolph Ziggler. In the end, it was Christian trying to give his team the advantage by distracting Sheamus, but the plan backfired as “The Great White” blasted Dolph Ziggler with the Brogue Kick en route to pinning the United States Champion to pick up the win for his team. After the match, Sheamus was making his exit when a frustrated Christian re-emerges, blasting Sheamus with a Spear on the stage! After assaulting and bagging Randy Orton two weeks ago on the RAW SuperShow and two night before he goes one-on-one with Orton at Vengeance, Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes appears on SmackDown. Rhodes states that, two weeks ago, he “exercised a demon” when he bagged Orton. The unbalanced Intercontinental Champion continues that what he did two weeks ago did not come as a result of an RKO from Orton or even from the nine staples he received at the hands of Orton and an attack with a ring bell several weeks ago, citing that Orton caused him “serious emotional damage” to him long ago. Rhodes states that Orton’s “venom” has poisoned him since their days as allies in Legacy, saying Orton “used” him and kicked him in the skull. Rhodes continues that he carried that “baggage” with him for the last couple of years before finally finding his opportunity at redemption when he bagged Orton, adding that his actions two weeks ago were a “release” for him. Rhodes continues that, unlike their last meeting, he is now the champion, he is the one smiling, and is the one who has everything going for him while Orton is an “embarrassed megalomaniac with no new tricks.” The Intercontinental Champion then calls Randy Orton out to the ring to admit that Orton made a “mistake” and that Orton got what he “deserved”. “The Viper” Randy Orton comes out, telling Cody Rhodes that the only “mistake” he has made is letting Rhodes breathe after Rhodes cost him the World Heavyweight Title. Orton continues that the only thing that Rhodes has “changed” is what Orton has in store for Rhodes this Sunday as a ring bell to the side of the head will be the least of Rhodes’ worries at Vengeance. As Orton gets closer to the ring, Rhodes’ baggers try to intercept, but are taken down by Orton. However, this gives Rhodes the opportunity to take advantage, delivering a kick to the face of “The Viper” before sending Orton face-first into the steel ring post. Rhodes then rolls Orton into the ring, but Orton fights back before Orton and Rhodes brawl back-and-forth. Orton then gains the advantage, tossing Rhodes to the outside before planting one of Rhodes’ baggers with his suspended DDT. Orton then pursues the Intercontinental Champion on the outside of the ring as the brawl continues with Orton getting the advantage again. Orton then places Rhodes in the ring, dragging Rhodes to the corner with the intent of stomping the skull of Rhodes into the steel steps. However, one of Rhodes’ baggers takes the proverbial bullet for his employer as the bagger prevents Rhodes from being stomped, only to take the skull-crushing shot himself! This sacrifice allows Cody Rhodes to narrowly escape from Orton, but Orton was not finished as, in a clear message to the Intercontinental Champion, Orton plants Rhodes’ other bagger with the RKO in the center of the ring. Will Cody Rhodes manage to survive the wrath of Randy Orton this Sunday at Vengeance? Then it was time for one Sin Cara to be shamed forever on his home turf of Mexico City as Sin Cara Azul faces Sin Cara Negro in a Mask vs. Mask Match as the culmination of the Sin Cara saga will end with the losing Sin Cara being forced to unmask. At the end of a hard-fought, high-flying match, it was Sin Cara Azul pulling off an impressive tilt-a-whirl headscissors into an armbar, forcing Sin Cara Negro to tap out. After the match, Sin Cara Negro would refuse to unmask, instead Negro attacks Azul, but Azul fights back, forcefully taking the mask off of Negro, exposing Sin Cara Negro’s face to the world in his hometown! Two nights before she defends the Divas Title against Eve at Vengeance, Divas Champion Beth Phoenix & Natalya appear on SmackDown and state that they are prettier than the other Divas and they also dominate the other Divas. Natalya then states that “pain is beauty” and nothing is more beautiful that watching “Barbie dolls” beg for mercy. Phoenix then vows to make Eve cry at Vengeance, which brings out Eve, who states that both of them are “ugly on the inside”. Eve continues that she is “not a Barbie doll” and there is nothing they can do to break her. The Divas Champion then tries to get Eve to cry, but Eve responds by shoving Beth Phoenix to the mat. Then it was time for the main event as, two nights before he challenges Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Title at Vengeance, “The World’s Largest Athlete” Big Show went one-on-one with WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio, just two nights before Del Rio defends the WWE Title in a Last Man Standing Match against John Cena at Vengeance, in a non-title match. After surviving the cross armbreaker of Alberto Del Rio, Big Show looked ready to deliver the chokeslam to the WWE Champion, but Del Rio’s personal ring announcer hops on the back of Big Show, leading to the disqualification. After the match, Big Show levels Rodriguez with the W.M.D., following it up with a second W.M.D. to the WWE Champion. World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry then tries to get the jump on Big Show, but “The World’s Largest Athlete” makes it a three-peat by leveling Henry with a third W.M.D. After dominating both the WWE Champion and the World Heavyweight Champion, is there any stopping Big Show this Sunday at Vengeance when he challenges Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Title?
