WWE Monday Night RAW August 1, 2011 Results

The 949th edition of WWE Monday Night RAW came to you, live, from the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN. After last week’s shocking return of CM Punk, who laid claim to being the true WWE Champion over new WWE Champion John Cena, WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H would appear on RAW to address the controversy over the WWE Championship. For the first time since walking back onto RAW last week with his WWE Title in tow, the controversial and outspoken CM Punk would appear on RAW. Also on RAW, thirteen Divas battled for the right to face Kelly Kelly for the Divas Title at SummerSlam as Eve, Maryse, Alicia Fox, Tamina, Rosa Mendes, Natalya, A.J., Kaitlyn, Melina, Gail Kim, Beth Phoenix, & The Bella Twins competed in a #1 Contender’s Diva Battle Royal with the winner earning the Divas Title shot.

Detailed Results

One week after his surprising re-emergence on RAW and his touting as the true WWE Champion, the newly re-signed CM Punk kicks off RAW as Punk proclaims that “The Champ is here”. Punk then takes a seat in the middle of the ring as Punk reveals that he has known for quite some time that his contract was set to expire on the night of the Money-in-the-Bank event on July 17. Punk continues that he “loves the place” he works, but “hates the people in charge”, adding that he had a decision to make, either re-sign with the WWE and deal the “soul crushing status quo” or he had a chance to “speak” his mind and “cause a little change” in his wake. Punk then states that he did create a “little bit of change”, reminding everyone that, as a result of his departure with the WWE Title, Vince McMahon was “relieved of his duties” two weeks ago on RAW. Punk continues that he would like to take a little bit of “credit” for that change taking place, but some of the credit has to go to the fans because the fans have been fed “scraps” for far too long and he is there to “make this fun again for everyone”. Punk then explains that, while he was sitting at home with the WWE Title, he decided that the fans need to hear his “voice”. Punk then states that he cannot “change” the WWE “for the better” just by sitting on his couch in Chicago before stating that he was the one who called and wanted his job back, adding that his “timing” could not have been “better.”

CM Punk then states that, in his short time away from the WWE, the “soul crushing status quo” has already returned with John Cena “parading around” as the WWE Champion, adding that Cena is no more a champion than the fans who buy the replica belts because, like Cena, the fans have a “belt” while he has a “championship title”! Punk continues that, no matter what Championship Tournaments take place or who in the back think they are “entitled” to rematches, it does not change the “fact” that he is the holder of the “most important title in the world”, adding that the title he holds proves that he is the “best professional wrestler that the world has to offer”. Punk then proclaims that he is “the one, the only WWE Champion” before Punk is interrupted by the Chief Operating Officer of the WWE, Triple H. “The Game” states that he decided to come out there and explain why he decided to re-sign CM Punk, saying that he did it because it was “good for business”, the same reason why he brought back Jim Ross and John Morrison last week, adding that it is his job as the COO to give the fans “what they want”. Triple H continues that he put his “personal feelings” aside and gave the fans what they wanted by re-signing CM Punk, but this gets the attention of CM Punk as Punk questions the COO on what “personal feelings” Triple H is referring to.

Triple H states that, while “irrelevant”, his “personal feelings” toward CM Punk are that Punk is a “smug, overrated, attention-seeking guy who puts a little too much stock in his own hype”! Punk responds by asking Triple H if it is a little like “looking in the mirror” before admitting that he is a bit “smug”, but being “overrated” is not for him to say. Punk continues that he wishes Triple H would just admit that he “hates” CM Punk, but views him as a “commodity”. Punk then states that Vince McMahon and the men he surrounded himself with let “main event caliber talent” go, like Batista, Mick Foley, Chris Jericho, and Brock Lesnar. Punk then tells Triple H that the COO could not “afford” to see CM Punk go to another wrestling organization, adding that he is a “commodity”. Triple H admits that Punk is a “commodity”, but Triple H dares CM Punk to “tell the truth” about why he “really re-signed”, but Punk states that he already did that when he said he wanted to “facilitate change”. Triple H states that it is “one way” of looking at it, but it can also be said that Punk did it for himself, adding that the “pipe bomb” microphone that CM Punk has and asking if a “pipe bomb” goes off and there is “no one is there”, does it “make a noise”. Triple H continues that it does not and Punk “needs” the “platform”, as well as the fans, because, without the WWE, the “pipe bomb” and CM Punk both “mean nothing”! Punk responds by saying that Triple H’s theory is a “maybe”, but he does not like to take stock in “maybes”, he likes “truths” before saying that the “truth” is that he is the WWE Champion.

Triple H then corrects CM Punk, saying that CM Punk is the WWE Champion, but so is John Cena before Triple H states that he will “fix” the WWE Championship situation later in the night. Triple H then started to exit the ring, but CM Punk stops Triple H, telling Triple H that he is just getting “warmed up”. Punk continues that he does not want Triple H to think that, just because he re-signed with the WWE, does not mean that he will “shut up”, adding that he will not be “spitting out some PG doctrine” and will not be going to “media training”! Punk then says, if Triple H wants to talk about “egos”, they can before doing the signature bow that Triple H did as Hunter Hearst Helmsley early in his career. Punk continues, stating that Triple H “hogged the spotlight” countless times over “people who deserve a spotlight”, adding that, even when Triple H was “carrying the bags” of Shawn Michaels, Triple H liked to throw his “weight” around and telling people what to do. Punk then takes it to another level by asking Triple H how many times Triple H said “I don’t think he has what it takes” while “lying in bed” with his wife! Punk continues, saying that, no matter the attire, Triple H is still who he has always been, a “bully who likes to throw his weight around and push people”, adding that he is not trying to “pick a fight” before warning Triple H to “be careful who you push”, because he likes to “push back”!

Triple H admits that he has a “massive ego” and, right now, his “massive ego” is telling him to “slap every one of those silly, little, rotten ass tattoos off of your skinny fat ass”, but he is not going to do that because “this is bigger than that”! Triple H states that he took the job as COO for the fans and that job comes with “certain responsibilities and certain rules” before admitting that he does not “like” some of those “rules”, but for the fans, he will “not break those rules” before “strongly recommending” that Punk does not “break” them either. Punk then continues to taunt the COO, asking Triple H “or what” and, while playing with the tie of Triple H, Punk asks Triple H if he is going to “fight” him or if the COO has to go “ask” his wife first before Punk exits the ring!

The opening match of the night was a #1 Contender’s Diva Battle Royal as thirteen Divas from both RAW and SmackDown battled to determine who will challenge Kelly Kelly for the Divas Title at SummerSlam. In the end, it came down to five Divas as Eve, Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox, & The Bella Twins fought it out for the title opportunity. Then it was down to four after Eve was able to dodge a baseball slide by Alicia Fox, who inadvertently eliminated herself from the Battle Royal. Kelly Kelly’s friend Eve was the next to go as the former champion was eliminated by one of The Bella Twins, but Beth Phoenix used her unbelievable strength to put both Brie & Nikki Bella on her shoulders, eliminating the twins to win the match and earn a Divas Title shot at SummerSlam. After the match, Divas Champion Kelly Kelly entered the ring to congratulate Beth Phoenix on her victory as the Divas Champion and the new #1 Contender embraced in the ring. However, Beth Phoenix then surprised Kelly Kelly and the world by grabbing Kelly Kelly and hurling the Divas Champion out of the ring. “The Glamazon” continued to attack Kelly Kelly, sending the Divas Champion careening into the ringside barricade before grabbing a microphone and telling Kelly Kelly that her days as the “perky, cute, blonde, little bimbo are officially over”. Can Kelly Kelly retain the Divas Title against the powerhouse, Beth Phoenix, at SummerSlam or are Kelly Kelly’s days as Divas Champion numbered?

After returning to RAW last week to attack the man who put him on the shelf, R-Truth, “The Prince of Parkour” John Morrison returned to action as Morrison teamed with the former WWE Champion, Rey Mysterio, to face R-Truth & The Miz in tag team action. In the end, it was a major assist by The Miz that allowed R-Truth to hit the Shut Up on John Morrison en route to picking up the win for himself and The Miz. After the match, The Miz picked the scraps of John Morrison by picking Morrison up and planting him with the Skull Crushing Finale before holding a defenseless Morrison as R-Truth smashed Morrison in the head with a water bottle. How will John Morrison respond to this attack by The Miz & R-Truth?

United States Champion Dolph Ziggler and his “associate” Vickie Guerrero appeared on RAW as Vickie, through the loud boo’s by the fans, proclaimed that her “client”, Dolph Ziggler, is better than both CM Punk and John Cena. The United States Champion then takes the microphone and states that, after his match last week, he told everyone to “follow that”, explaining that he was saying that to every contracted WWE Superstar. Dolph continues that “no one” will ever have his “skills”, his “techniques”, his “talent”, or his “charisma”, adding that he is “more of a man” than anyone in the arena and anyone in the locker room. The self-proclamations of the United States Champion then came to an end as “A-Ry” Alex Riley interrupts, asking Dolph that, if Dolph is such a “man”, then why is he always “hiding behind a woman” or in Dolph’s “case”, Vickie Guerrero. Vickie responds, saying that, thanks to her, Dolph is a former World Heavyweight Champion, a former Intercontinental Champion, and the reigning United States Champion. Alex Riley then asks Dolph Ziggler when was the last time that Ziggler accomplished anything on his “own”, adding that Ziggler reminds him of The Miz as Miz “hid” behind him just like Ziggler hides behind Vickie. Riley then tells Dolph that, if he wants to be a “real man”, then he should “drop” Vickie Guerrero, asking Dolph if he is afraid to drop Vickie because then Ziggler would be “exposed” as a “bleach-blonde, arrogant fraud”. Ziggler then takes his jacket and title belt off, looking like he is ready to fight Riley, but the United States Champion opted to exit the ring.

One week after soundly defeating Michael Cole on RAW and, after being hired as the assistant to the SmackDown General Manager, Zack Ryder teamed with Santino Marella to face WWE Tag Team Champions The New Nexus in a non-title match. In the end, it was an elbow drop by David Otunga from the second rope to Zack Ryder that led to the WWE Tag Team Champions picking up the win.

“Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Alberto Del Rio was in action on RAW as Del Rio went one-on-one the high flying Evan Bourne. In the end, it was Alberto Del Rio locking in the cross armbreaker on Evan Bourne, forcing Bourne to tap out to pick up the win. After the match, Alberto Del Rio locked in the cross armbreaker on Evan Bourne again, but luckily for Bourne, Kofi Kingston rushed out, forcing the exit of Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez.

Then it was time for the announcement that everyone had been waiting for as WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H would announce his decision regarding the controversy of having two WWE Champions in CM Punk and John Cena. Before the COO can make his announcement, the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis, interrupts and, after mentioning that he took his current job from Jim Ross, the EVP of Talent Relations explains that his job is to “sign talent and manage contracts”. Triple H asks Laurinaitis what he wants and the EVP of Talent Relations states that he worked with Triple H’s father-in-law, Vince McMahon, for ten years. Laurinaitis continues that he knows how Vince thinks and he knows how Vince would want the WWE Championship situation handled, telling Triple H to “strip the WWE Title from John Cena”! Before Triple H can respond, one of the WWE Champions, John Cena, interrupts, confronting John Laurinaitis and telling the EVP of Talent Relations that Laurinaitis has never had to “think” in his years as Vince’s “right hand”, adding that the reason Laurinaitis has been around for so long is because he is one of the “yes men” that CM Punk was talking about a few weeks ago. Cena continues that Laurinaitis wants him stripped of the WWE Title because he punched Laurinaitis in the face at Money-in-the-Bank. Cena then states that he will not be stripped of the title because some “goon in a suit who used to carry a skateboard” does not “like” him before telling Laurinaitis that “if you don’t got, get it and, if you don’t get it, then figure it out”. The EVP of Talent Relations then puts his finger in the face of John Cena and tells him that he’s “out of line”, adding that he did not make his decision based on Cena’s “unprofessional behavior”, he made it because CM Punk “beat” John Cena for the WWE Title. Cena then responds by saying that punching Laurinaitis in the face was his “favorite moment” from Money-in-the-Bank and he feels like doing it again right now, but when Cena started to close in on Laurinitis, the EVP of Talent Relations decided to hightail it out of the ring.

John Cena then asks Triple H if the COO is going to strip him of the WWE Title because CM Punk beat him at Money-in-the-Bank before saying that he beat Triple H at WrestleMania 22, so does that mean he can strip Triple H of the COO job and take it himself. Triple H assures John Cena that he will not be stripping him of the title, because Cena has a “legitimate claim” to the WWE Title. Triple H then reveals that, he sent CM Punk a contract to sign and he did not hear from Punk until the moment Cena was beating Rey Mysterio last week for the WWE Title as Punk handed Triple H a signed contract and told the COO to hit his music. Before Triple H could continue, the other WWE Champion, CM Punk, interrupts and makes his way to the ring before asking Triple H that, if Triple H is not going to strip Cena of the WWE Title, then is the COO going to strip him of his WWE Title and go back to the “status quo” of having Cena as the WWE Champion and “putting smiles” on people’s faces. Cena then starts to get in the face of CM Punk, but Triple H separates the two before reminding Cena that he is Cena’s “boss” now. Triple H then reveals that neither Cena nor Punk will be stripped of their respective WWE Titles because they are going to “settle it” his way before announcing that, at SummerSlam, WWE Champion John Cena will face WWE Champion CM Punk with the winner walking out of Los Angeles as the Undisputed WWE Champion! Triple H then leaves the ring, leaving WWE Champion CM Punk and WWE Champion John Cena alone in the ring as both of the WWE Champions take turns holding their respective title belts above their head in a war for fan approval. What will happen in two weeks at SummerSlam when, for the first time ever, two WWE Champions will face off with only one walking out of the Staples Center as the Undisputed WWE Champion? Will John Cena or CM Punk leave SummerSlam as the sole and Undisputed WWE Champion?
