WWE Monday Night RAW May 9, 2011 Results

With WWE Over The Limit just thirteen nights away, the 937th edition of WWE Monday Night RAW came to you, live, from the Thompson-Boling Arena at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. After successfully retaining the WWE Title against The Miz on last week’s RAW, new WWE Champion John Cena would find out who the new #1 Contender for the WWE Title would be as “The Champ” will defend the gold against that individual at WWE Over The Limit in a match type that John Cena gets to pick!

• Kane (with Big Show) def. Mason Ryan (with CM Punk) by DQ after The New Nexus interferes.
• Dolph Ziggler def. Santino Marella by pin following the Zig Zag.
• Non-Title: John Cena def. Alex Riley by submission to the STF.
• United States Championship: Kofi Kingston (c) (with Jerry “The King” Lawler) def. Jack Swagger by pin following Trouble in Paradise to retain.
• #1 Contender’s Triple Threat Match for the WWE Title: The Miz (with Alex Riley) def. Alberto Del Rio & Rey Mysterio by rolling up Rey Mysterio to become the #1 Contender for the WWE Title at Over The Limit.

Detailed Results

On a night where a new #1 Contender for the WWE Title would be named, the show kicks off with one of the newest additions to the RAW roster in “The Mexican Aristocrat” Alberto Del Rio! Del Rio proclaims that his “destiny” has been “delayed” and that he should be the new #1 Contender for John Cena’s WWE Title! Del Rio is then interrupted by a familiar rival in “The Ultimate Underdog” Rey Mysterio, who tells Alberto Del Rio that he is just as “worthy” as being the #1 Contender as Del Rio before challenging Del Rio to a match for the #1 Contender’s spot! Del Rio responds by saying that he is going to beat Mysterio for the “thousandth” time before being interrupted by the former WWE Champion, The Miz, and his associate, Alex Riley! The former WWE Champion states that, regardless of the Draft, RAW is still his show and the WWE Championship is his title and if it was not for the “staggering incompetence” of Alex Riley, then he would be the WWE Champion! Alberto Del Rio would tell The Miz that, last week, Miz did not get the “job done”, so he should go to the “back of the line”! Miz protests that he was announced as the new WWE Champion last week and he did not know that Riley was going to throw the WWE Title belt to him, so he used it “instinctively” before John Cena could use it on him before saying that he wants a “legitimate rematch” and telling Mysterio and Del Rio that they can go fight in a “Taco Bell parking lot” because the “only person” who should be challenging John Cena for the WWE Title is him!

The unbalanced Superstar who put John Morrison on the shelf last week would then interrupt as R-Truth would come out and state that he hates “hospital food” because it’s “dry” and “tastes bad” before saying that John Morrison is eating a lot of hospital food because of his attack on Morrison last week that left Morrison with a pinched nerve in his neck that will require surgery, leaving Morrison out of action for 4-6 weeks! Truth would then deliver a “P.S.” to John Morrison by saying that hospital food gives you “constipation” before threatening the Superstars in the ring that he could do the same thing to them that he did to Morrison! Truth would then call Miz a “pretty boy from Hollywood” and “Kermit” before getting in Rey Mysterio’s face and calling him a “super hero wannabe from San Diego” and a “bottlenose” before calling Alberto Del Rio a “pompous Mexican fence jumper” and a “liver lips”! Truth then shouts that when an “angry black man” is talking, then they all need to “shut up” before shouting that he has waited “ten years” for a title opportunity and he is not going to let this one pass him by! The anonymous General Manager of RAW then chimes in with an email that announced that he believes there are only “three” of the Superstars in the ring who deserve a shot at the WWE Title, so they are going to have a Triple Threat Match to determine the new #1 Contender on RAW and, because the GM agrees with his “assessment”, The Miz is in the match and, because he was the “crown jewel” of the WWE Draft, then Alberto Del Rio is in and, because he was victorious last week, Rey Mysterio is in the Triple Threat Match! After being left out of the Triple Threat Match for the #1 Contender’s spot, a livid R-Truth shouts that he is “better” than all of them before saying that he is “especially” better than Rey Mysterio! Rey would then tell an infuriated R-Truth that he “agrees” with the GM in saying that Truth does not deserve to be in the Triple Threat Match before telling R-Truth that that’s the “truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth”! An angry and unbalanced R-Truth would then leave the ring talking to himself before The Miz tells Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio that they are “day laborers” and “bench warmers” because he is the “star of the show” and the next WWE Champion is, but before he could insert his name into that proclamation, Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, cuts in and announces Del Rio’s name, much to the delight of Del Rio! This would lead to Alex Riley attacking Alberto Del Rio only for Ricardo Rodriguez to actually land a dropkick on The Miz’s associate! Miz would then take Ricardo Rodriguez down before Miz and Del Rio would brawl, taking each other to the outside of the ring where, as The Miz and Alex Riley escaped, Rey Mysterio would dive to the outside, taking Alberto Del Rio down! What will happen when The Miz, Rey Mysterio, and Alberto Del Rio battle in a Triple Threat Match with the #1 Contender’s spot for the WWE Title on the line? Who will advance to challenge John Cena for the WWE Title at Over The Limit in two weeks’ time? Which type of match will John Cena choose to defend the WWE Title in?

The Divas would be in tag team action in the opening match of RAW as Divas Champion Brie Bella would team with her twin sister, Nikki Bella, to take on Kelly Kelly and former Divas Champion Eve! In the end, it was Kelly Kelly rolling up one of the Bellas for the win! The celebration would be short-lived, however, as the monstrous force known as Kharma would enter the arena and, after The Bella Twins narrowly escaped the ringside, the unbalanced powerhouse would enter the ring and, as Kelly Kelly makes her escape from the ring, Eve would try to attack Kharma, but Kharma would lay out the Diva before stalking Kelly Kelly on the outside of the ring, but Kelly Kelly would flee, leaving Kharma to lay Eve out with the Kharma Buster! Are there any Divas in the WWE who can stop Kharma?

One week after leveling both WWE Tag Team Champions, Kane & Big Show, the monster of The New Nexus, Mason Ryan, with New Nexus leader CM Punk in his corner, would go one-on-one with “The Big Red Machine” Kane, with Big Show in his corner! During the match, CM Punk would go behind the referee’s back with a shot to the knee of Kane, which would prompt Big Show to chase CM Punk down and deliver the Knockout Punch to Punk, leaving The New Nexus leader laid out! This would bring out the rest of The New Nexus, David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty, but the WWE Tag Team Champions would easily deal with Otunga & McGillicutty before Kane & Big Show would plant Mason Ryan with a double chokeslam!

The self-proclaimed “new and improved” Dolph Ziggler would be in action on RAW as Dolph would go one-on-one with Santino Marella! In the end, it was Dolph Ziggler hitting the Zig Zag on Santino Marella en route to picking up the win!

Backstage, The Miz is arguing with his associate, Alex Riley, over what happened last week in the WWE Title match as Miz would say that Riley has the “brain of an orangutan” and says that he does not know why he allows Riley to be in his “presence”! Riley then says that he is going to “make it up” to The Miz and he is going to “show” Miz that he is “sorry” before the associate would walk all the way out to the ring! Once in the ring, Alex Riley would state that he “does not care” what the fans think of him and the only person he “cares about” is The Miz before Riley would actually challenge WWE Champion John Cena to a match, demanding that Cena come out and face him! Never one to back down from a challenge, WWE Champion John Cena would come out as “The Champ” would go one-on-one with Alex Riley! During the match, The Miz would make his way to ringside as John Cena would lock eyes with The Miz as Cena would deliver not one, but two Attitude Adjustments before locking in the STF, forcing Alex Riley to tap out to pick up the win over Miz’s associate! Will The Miz be the one facing John Cena for the WWE Title at Over The Limit?

After he and Jack Swagger narrowly defeated Hall of Famers Jim Ross & Jerry “The King” Lawler in a Country Whipping Match at Extreme Rules, the self-proclaimed “Voice of the WWE” Michael Cole would make an appearance on RAW as Cole would publically announce his “retirement” from in-ring competition before proclaiming that he is the only “undefeated Superstar in WWE history”! Michael Cole is then interrupted by Jerry “The King” Lawler who, after being reminded by Cole that, per the orders of the anonymous General Manager, Lawler can still not lay a hand on Cole or he will be fired! Lawler states that he remembers the ruling, but that the ruling did not apply to The Rock last week before Lawler shows the Rock Bottom and People’s Elbow that Cole got from “The People’s Champion” on RAW last week! Lawler would then state that life would “cease to exist” if Michael Cole ever got inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, but “The King” would then challenge Cole, telling Cole that, if Cole were to beat him in a rematch, then not only would he induct Cole into the Hall of Fame himself, but he would give his Hall of Fame ring to Cole! Cole would then decline Lawler’s challenge before Cole would walk back to his “Cole Mine” and accuse Lawler of stealing his “spotlight” before calling Lawler and the rest of Tennessee “sore losers”, saying that Lawler cannot accept losing to Cole at WrestleMania and Extreme Rules! Cole continues that his decision was made yesterday on Mother’s Day when he and his mother watched Lawler’s losses to Cole! Knowing full well that Jerry Lawler’s mother passed away in February, Cole asks Lawler what he did for Mother’s Day, which would infuriate Lawler as the Hall of Famer would try and get his hands on Cole, but Cole would duck down in his “Cole Mine” as Lawler tried to break into the cage! However, Jack Swagger would make the save as Swagger would attack Lawler from behind, sending “The King” face-first into the steel ring post!

After assaulting Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler to protect Michael Cole, “The All-American American” Jack Swagger would be in action on RAW as Jack Swagger would challenge Kofi Kingston for the United States Title! During the match, Jack Swagger would look to have the match well in hand, but Jerry Lawler would re-emerge, distracting Swagger long enough for Kofi Kingston to take advantage as Kofi would hit Trouble in Paradise on Swagger en route to successfully retaining the United States Title! After the match, Jerry Lawler would pull Jack Swagger out of the ring and would toss Swagger over the ringside barricade before Lawler would reach through the hole in the “Cole Mine” and grab the tie of Michael Cole, using the tie to repeatedly slam the face of Cole into the wall of the “Cole Mine”, technically not touching Cole, thus keeping his job! As referees restrained Lawler, Jack Swagger would tell Lawler that he just made Michael Cole a “first ballot Hall of Famer” as Swagger would proceed to accept Lawler’s challenge to a match on behalf of Michael Cole, much to Cole’s shock! When will this rematch between Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler take place? Can Michael Cole defeat Jerry Lawler again to get a spot in the Hall of Fame and the Hall of Fame ring of “The King”?

Then it was time for the main event as a new #1 Contender for the WWE Title would be named in a Triple Threat Match as former WWE Champion The Miz, “The Ultimate Underdog” Rey Mysterio, and “The Mexican Aristocrat” Alberto Del Rio would square off with the winner facing John Cena for the WWE Title at Over The Limit in a match type to be named by John Cena! During the match, Alex Riley would limp out to ringside to try and assist his mentor, The Miz, but Riley would get on the apron of the ring and would find himself knocked off of the apron by Rey Mysterio as Rey would send Alberto Del Rio into Riley before hitting the 619 and Splash on Del Rio, but when Rey would go for the pin on Alberto Del Rio, Alex Riley would pull Del Rio out of the ring and, with Rey Mysterio distracted by the activity at ringside, The Miz slid into the ring and rolled Rey up to pick up the win and become the #1 Contender for the WWE Title! After the match, WWE Champion John Cena would come out and announce the match type he will defend the WWE Title in at Over The Limit as the match will be a match where there will be “no excuses” for The Miz as John Cena will defend the WWE Title against The Miz at Over The Limit in an “I Quit” Match, where the only way to win is to beat your opponent to the point that they utter the words, “I Quit”! Can The Miz do the unthinkable at Over The Limit and force John Cena to say “I Quit” to regain the WWE Title?

Still in the ring after his loss in the main event, Rey Mysterio would be attacked from behind from R-Truth as R-Truth would plant Rey with the Whole Truth! How will Rey Mysterio respond to this attack by R-Truth?
