WWE WrestleMania: My Favourite MatchBy Jimmy Redman| April 2, 2011 WWE WrestleMania WWE WrestleMania is just over 24 hours away! Before I was asked to do this I was actually thinking about what the best Wrestlemania match would be. It wasn’t something I knew off-hand, so I basically just went down my mental list of favourite matches until I hit one from a WrestleMania. And even though it’s bleeding obvious now I wasn’t expecting the answer, but that because I often forget to put women’s matches in their proper context against all other matches. Yeah, its… Trish Stratus vs Mickie James – WrestleMania 22 I think by now the English language has run out of words I can use to explain how much I loved this. Incredible characters, incredible angle, incredible match. Everyone played their part perfectly; Trish was a great freaked-out grizzled veteran babyface, Mickie was an unbelievable psycho stalker heel, and JR and King set a world record for rattling off the most synonyms for “crazy” in a 10 minute period. They worked fantastically. There were great spots, the powerbomb, the top-rope arm wringer, kicking the post, there was some good leg work, there was some good ol’ bashing the hell out of each other, and there were some incredible character spots. Mickie’s FACE after the aforementioned top-rope arm wringer was unbelievable. The infamous lady-part squeeze was inspired, but what I loved just as much was Mickie turning around into Trish’s KNOCKOUT PUNCH OF DOOM. Then into the finish, where Mickie used the injured leg to get to the laughably botched Stratusfaction (I couldn’t care less) before they got it done and Mickie won a title that meant something. I have never EVER been more emotionally invested in an angle, and I don’t think I ever will be again. A completely, wonderfully perfect match.
